Having conversation with friend this morning she was asking me, how often do I vacuum, and was I doing it more since lockdown or less, I’d say it’s the same, I don’t go into every room every day no, but I do vacuum downstairs everyday and clean my floors, she was saying she vacuums once a week, she has no pets so no flurries of pet hair,

Yes. Every morning in the downstairs rooms (living room and kitchen) and twice a week for bedrooms and stairs etc. We have 4 cats though. Also use a fabulous little hand held mini vac for crumbs etc inbetween.

Can't say that I vacuum every room every day - 1 bedroom has laminate flooring (my son's choice) so it's easier to sweep/ damp mop that floor. The other 2 bedrooms are vacuumed and dusted once a week.
Downstairs is done 2 or 3 times a week - the vacuum I have there is newer and more efficient. The stairs also get done at the same time.
I was horrified at the amount of extra dust and fluff in the bathroom the other day since the windows have been open more often - really need to replace the laundry basket- it's a sort of raffia and collects fluff worse than I realised and where have all the spiders webs come from since last week ?

I do have a vacuum but sweep more than vacuum. Probably every few days.

No pets, no carpets, no vacuum! smile

When I see a blue moon, I get the hoover out.

The cruelty to vaccum police would arrest me so only once a week IF THAT.

Our lounge needs vacuuming most day.....three cats and I sew....hubby drops crumbs.
Other areas ...upstairs at least once or twice a week. Stairs..when I have the energy. The rest of downstairs gets swept daily...cat fluff and crumbs...and washed once a week.
It’s all constant and annoying but has to be done.

Oh whitewave I’m in awe of you.
I’ve not achieved organised housework in the way you have in 42 years of being married.
Yours sounds a home to be proud of and you won’t worry about unexpected visitors (when we’re allowed them again). ?

Life is far too short to spend much time vacuuming.

I was brought up in a house with staff so tend to conveniently assume that somebody else might do it (but they won't).

Right now, even less often, as nobody else will see it!

I no longer have any pets, so the G-tec only comes out about once a week at the moment, but usually we have a cleaner come in once a week and givethe place a good general clean through, which obviously had to stop due to lockdown and us being in the Vunerable group.
DH has said that he doesnt want her to return until this crisis is completely over, but I think that hes just getting to mean to pay her the going hourly rate for a cleaner, but she deserves every penny of it and works really hard, I really miss her.

Ours is vacuumed when the Officer in Charge of the Dyson decides it needs doing. He also is afraid of wearing it out grin.

Any houseproud visitors are so busy staring in horror at the tv unit that they miss the books, magazines and newspapers scattered around the living room. That’s my theory!

Barmeyoldbat Sun 17-May-20 21:12:29

Sussexborn, yes I have one of those black glass TV stands and it collects all the dust. I either leave it, usually as you do 3 or 4 weeks or I just flick over it with what ever I have in my hand, teacloth, spare bit of material. I can live with it.

I vacuum the downstairs rooms (laminate flooring with a couple of large rugs) every day. There are 3 of us plus one cat.

I do the stairs and bedrooms about once a fortnight. I

I do the housework once a week concentrating on one room each week, giving the other rooms a quick dust hoover or steam clean. The second day is the kitchen oven, fridge and work tops. That’s it. I ignore the house the rest of the week and enjoy life. Or at least I did when I could go out.

Just missed the second theatre and restaurant booking???. A good fair at the Weald and downland and Hove. And of course NT .

I am definitely going to re-think my lifestyle.

Sussexborn Sun 17-May-20 18:01:21

Our Gtech has a light I think. More OHs province than mine these days.

Sussexborn Sun 17-May-20 17:59:35

We made a mistake and bought a black glass top tv table which is a dust magnet. I wait for the dust to build up so it seems more worthwhile - it needs dusting at least once a month. We were intending to replace it just before lock down.

BlueBelle Sun 17-May-20 17:36:49

I don’t know what make mine is we re not that pally

TrendyNannie6 Sun 17-May-20 17:36:22

Ellanvannin I presume when you say when the cats see the lights coming, that you have a shark hoover like me, all my cats and dogs dodge it ??

phoenix Sun 17-May-20 17:36:12

CleoPanda really? confused

garnet25 Sun 17-May-20 17:31:36

Pre lockdown vacuuming in this house was done 1) if we were having visitors 2) if we were going on holiday.

Now it's only if it is very messy which as we have our 45-year-old Son shielding here with us it sometimes is. He does his own room and the bathroom he uses.

No ironing been done for weeks.
