I watch more on my laptop. Occasionally TV when both of us are interested in the same programme.
Watch most things through iPlayer. Now have Netflix and have found so much to enjoy there.
Never watch till evenings (when it's gone dark) and I can't work outside any longer.

I might get rid of my telly!
(46 Posts)Having been a dawn till dusk tv watcher (disabled, don’t go out ever) I have suddenly stopped watching it. Fed up with repeats, adverts, crime and murder programmes and corona virus. I usually put on YouTube via chrome and listen to the rain or sea waves. Would you live without the tv? Do you already? Love to hear your thoughts.
I would never want to be without tv. It's a marvellous source of information as well as entertainment. And yes there is a lot of rubbish but there is also a lot of good stuff.
We watch our TV’s most nights and often go in separate rooms to watch different progs.
DH loves news and sports, I watch more dramas, old sit coms, gardening, cooking , sewing.
Programme most worth my tv licence this month is the re-showing of Peter Kay’s “Car Share”. I have laughed and laughed. It’s even better on second viewing than the first time ? (if you like his humour).
Apart from when some well-meaning but misguided soul gave us a telly when the children were young, I've never had one and certainly don't want one.
I rarely go out and not at all during the past 60 days and even when things ease, not much will change for me.
I've found podcasts give me a wonderfully wide range of entertainment and my son bought me a voice-operated Google mini so I can listen to them in the living or bedroom in the evening (I'm currently listening to Richard Briars in an episode of Jeeves).
Anyone who can see an iPhone, tablet, laptop etc can access podcasts but I can't and only have a PC .
I don't want to sit on my office chair listening to comedy or drama, quizzes and documentaries all day, so the Mini is great.
I also get free audio books from the library and they too are a great resource. Occasionally, I'll get a DVD which I can barely see but listen to.
In podcasts, I alternate between Radio 4 and Radio 4Extra.

But there are dozens of other podcasts on line.
and www.FutureLearn.com will show you short courses on every subject under the sun (and quite a few you never dreamed existed) all to do as and when you can spare the time.
Get rid of the telly, the news is always depressing and very bad for mental health.
I'm with you grannyrebel7 I enjoy watching TV especially the soaps - shock horror! !
I love The A Word as well. Tried Netflix and couldn't find much I liked. Never watch in bed though that's my time for reading.
I couldn't be without my TV. Only soap I watch is Corrie too Maggiemaybe. I love to get up in the morning and put the TV on to see who Piers Morgan is having a go at. I also love some of the dramas like Normal People and the A Word. I can usually find something I like. Would never consider being without it.
I ditched my telly 5yrs ago & haven't looked back. Everything is available on your laptop should you want it.
We wouldn’t be without a tele, have several over the house but saying that since the lockdown I’ve done more reading, have watched a few dramas though but little else
I hardly watch anything these days. So many repeats which I've either already seen or wouldn't watch anyway. There are documentaries on some really interesting subjects but they are always ruined by 'background' noise.
Even the News isn't really the news any more. I don't know what has happened but the Coronavirus is the only thing being reported on. I know it's having a major impact on the whole world, but there are other things happening too which don't get a mention.
I wouldn't actually get rid of my tv but my license fee is totally wasted at the moment.
Oh, I loved Father and Son, welbeck, I did it for A level. And read by Derek Jacobi too, that sounds like a treat. Thanks for the tip, I’ll listen to it tomorrow.
i don't watch tv. have tiny income, less than £10 a day, having to pay bills from savings, so decided not to pay for the licence.
i prefer the radio anyway. mostly radio 4/ extra. i like the drama readings usually. but there was something by j b priestley about music hall artistes, that i found strangely disappointing, seemed rather bleak, just couldn't get the point of it. but then i suppose priestley is not really light entertainment, more moral upbraiding, but this one was just depressing mostly.
then i heard the man who would be thursday by g k chesterton, which was good, and some p g wodehouse, excellent, and today edmund goss, father and son, the childhood, very affecting and so vivid.
Today our WiFi and television was restored from having gone wrong since Monday. So no television, no email, no banking, no shopping, no information, no twitter.etc etc.
I found I enjoyed the peace without the television, but did miss the ability to find out information, which is usually there at my fingertips.
Just one TV in living room. Could never have one in the bedroom. It get switched on at 6pm for the news. We dont enjoy soaps of any kind but do enjoy anything to do with history, geography, travel. Really enjoyed The Crown on Netflix, so informative and very well done. We do enjoy a good drama and currently looking forward to the return of Peaky Blinders
T.V. (We only have 1, in the sitting room) doesn't go on until about 7.30pm.
However, Radio 4 is on all day, with the occasional switch to Radio 4 Extra.
Couldn't do without a TV
I got a TV some years back but, after a year, had watched it so few times that it wasn’t worth the licence fee.
I watch things on iPlayer but looking through what’s available is depressing. 90% is of no interest to me. I want information, not entertainment.
I used to listen to Radio 4 all day but it has been hugely impoverished by the cuts. There are endless 15 minute readings and dramas and far fewer original programmes.
Whether you need a TV depends on what you want to watch.
I've also gravitated more towards YouTube over the years - And podcasts - When I do choose to watch a movie I enjoy the tv- Last night I finished watching The King-
I agree there can be a load of rubbish on at times, and I do my best to avoid wall to wall coverage of Covid at the moment. I do think BBC iPlayer is pretty good really, some interesting films come and go such as "Sense of an Ending" They've also been boxing up their best dramas, for example "Line of Duty". As far as dramas are concerned I personally enjoyed "Normal People" possibly not everyone's cup of tea though. I really like travelogue type programmes, "Race Across the World" Simon Reeve, Rick Stein's gasto/travel type of thing appeal to me. Enjoy some of the foreign series on BBC4, particularly the French ones. I do like a good crime series such as "Flesh and Blood" and avoid the worst of those, some can be duds. Then of course there are the wonderful Attenborough wildlife programmes. We also dip in and out of Netflix. We don't let the tv rule our lives, not into any soaps helps.
It wouldn't bother me to not have a TV. I haven't sen any of the soaps for years, I don't like and have never watched any baking programmes. I watch things on YouTube and Netflix.
Mine is never on during the day and often off after the evening news! Prefer laptop but wouldn' t get rid of my television ... wouldn' t get much for it so it might as well stay put.
We don't have a tv but watch programmes on our 'puters from BBCiplayer etc. You still need a license.
We have different tastes in programmes so it suits us.
My favourites are mostly outdoors/nature topics.
Nobody’s admitted being addicted to the soaps yet. Go on then, I’ll go first! Just Corrie, though.
I must say I’m enjoying it more now it’s only on for three half hours a week. It was getting to saturation point.
@Floradora9, I have radio channels on my tv I listen to, being isolated and alone its too quiet without background noise.
Why do people who say they have it on just for some background noise not listen to the radio instead ? This is just out of interest not a criticism . I am listening to Classic FM in the background and love it .
We don’t watch all that much but I certainly wouldn’t want to get rid of ours. There’s often very interesting stuff on BBC2 and 4 - last night we were watching that prog. about the village of Kibworth, fascinating, and another dh was keen to see on catch-up about the ‘fathers’ of modern chemistry. I did find that v interesting too, though should add that I’m also a fan of Vera, Shetland, etc., and do like the Repair Shop, when I remember to watch it.
We now also have Netflix and have found some good stuff there - currently absorbed in Marseille - a French (subtitled) drama series about politics and very dodgy goings on in that city, and featuring a very portly Gerard Depardieu.
Forgotten, What Remains, and the whole of Last Tango In Halifax are other series we’ve really enjoyed on catch-up or Netflix.
