Just that really.

First pictures of the Queen outside since she went in to lockdown at Windsor Castle.

Out riding on a pony this weekend, enjoying the sunny weather.

Not bad at 94.

Admiration is what feel. She has done a sterling job.

I doubt any president could have done half as well and the frequent changes and upheavals would be disturbing in a constantly changing world.
I like the thread that runs through, the continuity, the sense of stability despite changes of government.

Yes I'm sure a President would have every luxury he or she demanded and the taxpayer would be expected to pay for everything. In addition hey may not have any private wealth therefore their private life would be paid for by the taxpayer too.

RN doctors - they look after families of RN personnel too.

What's not clear about The journal said similar bespoke on-site services were provided by the NHS for staff and pupils at the fee-paying Westminster school and Haileybury school, Hertfordshire
That's the Health Service Journal!

Pantglas. Yes I think I probably did mean something like that, wasn’t sure what you meant by beating one etc. Giving up smoking ? If so well done, me too.
I’m just a bit puzzled by the “worship” ? Wrong word maybe,
Of the Queen. She’s done an ok job at what she had to do but was well looked after along the way. I definitely don’t feel any actual love for her as I don’t know her !

Anniebach Wed 03-Jun-20 10:16:51

Not clear is it ? We have a public school here, it has a matron
and a surgery but covered by GP’s from the town surgery .

trisher Wed 03-Jun-20 10:14:36

Calistemon do you think that the President's household staff would have special healthcare as well? Because that's what is happening at Buck House. I would have no problem with a private doctor touring with the Queen, but an RN doctor? If she wants special care she should pay for it.

Callistemon Wed 03-Jun-20 10:13:01

It is reported that the royal family only use the NHS in an emergency, otherwise their healthcare is privately funded.

I suppose that is wrong too, as Gransnetters have found if the dared to admit such a thing on here.

Callistemon Wed 03-Jun-20 10:09:59

I expect any President would have medical professionals there at the click of a finger.

I cannot understand the desire to replace a benign, relatively inexpensive monarchical system , admired around the world with a presidential system at probably greater cost.
The monarchy performs its functions supremely well without interference in our politics although sometimes I do wish HM would!

If HM has private healthcare I presume this is paid for by private money as do many ther people.

Yes

Anniebach Wed 03-Jun-20 09:57:11

Are the surgeries at Buck House and the 2 fee paying schools
NHS ?

trisher Wed 03-Jun-20 09:51:59

So Buck House and 2 fee paying schools have their own GP surgeries whilst others in the country struggle to register with a GP or have problems getting an appointment with a GP. and there are still some people saying privilege is OK? Really?!!!

If Prince Charles had had a severe case of Covid nothing and nobody could have save him, regardless of who he was.

Sometimes the facts can get in the way of a good old rant SueDonim
grin

My daughter knows the physician to the royal family when they are at Balmoral and he certainly isn’t kicking his heels in the heather around the castle. He’s busy working in the NHS, the same as any other doctor.

Callistemon Tue 02-Jun-20 23:05:20

Rosina it was common practice in those days for doctors to suggest smoking as a way to calm the nerves. King George VI, as we know, was a nervous public speaker because of his stammer. My MIL's GP suggested she took up smoking when my FIL was missing on WW2. Thankfully she did give up several years later.

Special treatment indeed.

Interesting read. The queen and Charles always travel with a doctor. The very fact of knowing you are so well cared for for would lessen the stress of taking ill tremendously. Stress is a big factor in illness. None of us have this level of health care.

Some time ago I read this. May not apply now but that it did at all is totally wrong.

Their wealth and income did get them the best medical care. According to "The Crown" her father had a lung removed. How many people could have such treatment in the 1940s? Of course there are exceptions to the rule but more affluent people generally live longer lives. Poverty kills.

Pantglas2 Tue 02-Jun-20 22:05:11

So Lucca, their wealth and income meant nothing against their own unhealthy choices? I’ll take my chances then - I’ve already beaten one and I’m not far from t’other!

Lucca Tue 02-Jun-20 21:36:02

They both smoked excessively

BlueSky Tue 02-Jun-20 20:59:43

Annep and yet her father died at 52 ad her sister at 70!

annep1 Tue 02-Jun-20 20:54:55

It's well known that life expectancy is related to wealth/income.
Doesn't need explanation.

lemsip Tue 02-Jun-20 20:33:32

a commenter said ' Surely the Queen is not the only nonagenarian still fit and active?' Well she's the only one known to the great majority!

Good post Grany

I have used homeopathy since 1970 . Prince Charles has spoken out about it many times .

Sparklefizz Tue 02-Jun-20 19:19:35

SaraC I use a great deal of homeopathy too and have read that both the Queen and Prince Charles use it. I have heard that both of them always travel with a full kit of homeopathic remedies.
