... before you look in the mirror?

(I just don't understand why there's always this old woman of 72 looking back at me. In my head I'm always 35!

Kim19 Thu 04-Jun-20 15:40:46

BA, agree with you on BE. She used to be so beautiful.

Skweek1 Thu 04-Jun-20 15:20:31

72 - think 20, feel 150!

Happysexagenarian Thu 04-Jun-20 14:47:04

In my head I am still 17, I still jive vigorously to 50s music and drool over Harley motorbikes. I'm still drawn to the styles of clothes I wore back then but have to remind myself they wouldn't look so good now as I've gained over 4 stone since then. The face and figure I see in the mirror is probably in its sixties, apart from the white hair which is my choice. I'm happy with that, I'll be 70 next week. Someone once told me "You'll never be old, you're young at heart", I hope they're right.

Zoom is horrible shock It wasn't until I did my first Zoom that I understood why celebs have work done to their faces if they have to keep seeing themselves in that sort of close-up.

Nodj Thu 04-Jun-20 13:34:25

The zoom meetings and FaceTime chats are really scary... I scare myself! ?

I hate my wrinkly arms as well. I am quite thin, so don’t have very much flesh to plump them up.

My décolletage is slightly wrinkly also, but that’s probably from sun exposure. I do make sure to moisture that area very regularly. Again, being on the bony side, I don’t have a cleavage.
I am nearly 75, and since this lockdown, I feel as if I’m giving into old age.

Happy Birthday Peterpan x

Im 65 , my head says I’m way younger than that but my body says I’m well into my 100,s. Haven’t looked in the mirror in ages cos I’m sick of seeing the short fat ugly woman who lives inside it.

janipans Thu 04-Jun-20 13:06:49

I remember visiting my mother in hospital, the day before she died, when she was just 59 and wondering why she was on a geriatric ward. Then I looked at her properly and realised that she actually was an "old lady". I am 65 now and every time I look in a mirror I am thankful that I look much younger than my age. Modern hair and skincare and a young attitude to life is the way to go I think!

Buttonjugs Thu 04-Jun-20 13:02:33

@MaryXYX I like that - apparently I am 38! In reality I am 56, in my head 46, and my body feels like 76. Last night I ordered a stool for the shower because I managed to pull something trying to wash my lady bits! ??‍♀️

TheFrugalPiggy Thu 04-Jun-20 12:57:38

I'm 55 but I don't identify with my own age group at all. In my head I'm between 35 and 40. When I catch sight of myself in the mirror I'm my mother.

My yoga instructor has the best piece of advice about ageing - she always says .....’you are as old as your spine’. When you look around at how older people walk and hold their shoulders and their upper body in general it’s certainly so true. So when I look in the mirror and get a bit disheartened about the wrinkles and sagging jaw of this 77 year old face I quickly swivel sideways and check out the strong straight back and straight square shoulders of a 45 year old and feel so much better!

Patticake123 Thu 04-Jun-20 12:25:32

I’m around 45 in my head and I used to think I didn’t look too bad in the mirror and then came the advent of zoom. Now when I see myself on the full computer screen, the lines, patchy skin, flabby throat and grey hair reflecting back and I’m finding the truth hurts!

BlueSky Thu 04-Jun-20 12:20:09

BladeAnnie agree about Britt Ekland, Barbara Dickson looks much better without trying too hard to look like a teenager!

SillyNanny321 Thu 04-Jun-20 12:10:48

I sit reading & listening to heavy rock & feel about 35+. Then get up to make a cuppa & catch sight of my Mum in the mirror. Then realise its 75 year old me. Oh well back to the book & the music & forget how old I really am.

MaryXYX Thu 04-Jun-20 12:10:28

I have the advantage of being a computer geek. My age is 47 (that is in hexadecimal). I certainly don't act my age, perhaps somewhere between that and the decimal figure.

halfpint1 Thu 04-Jun-20 11:58:04

Megs36that did make me laugh, I'm the same except its
my DAD looking back!
Mind you when I'm with my older sister I feel like a young 'en
again because she looks and sounds like my MUM!

grandtanteJE65 Thu 04-Jun-20 11:53:12

Sorry, didn't answer the question, did I?

Feel somewhere around the fortyish mark inside.

Legs and backside look younger than that, but then professional dancing probably did that. Neck and hands do not look fortyish ( add on 20+) and tum-tum seems to have acquired some flab and creases.

Charleygirl5 Thu 04-Jun-20 11:49:07

Looking at the vast majority of the so called celebs on TV, most of them are so stick-thin they do not look to me as though they have had a decent meal for many years.

grandtanteJE65 Thu 04-Jun-20 11:47:13

I am as old as my tongue and a little older than my teeth, as my grandmother used to say!

Sometimes I stare in astonishment when I see her in shop windows. Then I realise I am looking at my own reflection!

Alison333 Thu 04-Jun-20 11:45:38

When I was about ten years old, my granny told me 'I'm still a young spirit, just in an old case!' I thought that was a bit odd.
Now I understand what she meant!

Millie22 Thu 04-Jun-20 11:40:51

28 as I was so happy then and still happy now .. most of the time x

Kim19 Thu 04-Jun-20 11:38:36

People are regularly surprised/unbelieving when I reveal my age. Think it's probably because I have such a kinky sense of humour to life in general. I have indeed been fortunate with health thus far. Believe any chronic condition must be very ageing/draining. Sad. However, as I lie in bed unable to avoid mirror I see my lovely Mother. Great but.... reality!

GaGa67 Thu 04-Jun-20 11:38:05

Well I'm a 53yr old gran and mum to 4 daughters, and I never look in a mirror!!, I just hate seeing the "old" me looking back at me!!???

annodomini Thu 04-Jun-20 11:36:48

A man is as old as he's feeling
A woman's as old as she looks.
