The best thing for me was when DGS ( teenager) turned up at the door bearing a large bag of flour, he knew I hadn’t been able to get any via delivered shopping.?
The other thing was when DD called round on Monday and we sat in the garden with iced drinks and chatted for an hour.

How I would love to be able to say "sat in the garden with some of my family at long last." Small apartment, no garden ...... but, hey hoe, our new, desperately needed, mattress, ordered on 24th February, was finally delivered yesterday, (Thursday). At last we may now get some much wanted sleep! grin moon Stay alert still and stay safe still everyone. smile

We have had garden meets which have been lovely. The best thing today was, my neighbour’s medication hadn’t arrived so I parked in town to get it. The ticket expired at 11.09-a traffic warden was standing by the car as I arrived back at exactly 11.09 and he said he was glad I’d made it!
Thanks traffic warden-I know you have targets.

It didn’t exactly happen to me but after nearly two months apart my grandchildren were able to spend a long weekend with their parents before my DD has a dangerous operation this month. They were all so happy for the 3 days.

Oh dear, I am getting a bit teary reading all these lovely poignant posts. Good luck everyone on, and waiting for, treatments. Good 'toilet' tips, thanks.
But do keep safe, and hygenic. It's still lurking. Going off to find a tissue.

Three highlights:
1. Sitting in the garden with my daughter, my grandson aged 3, and granddaughter, 9 months.
2. Picking the first strawberries. Guess who ate them. grin
3. Reading all the lovely news on this thread. Thanks, really heart-warming.

We have a system whereby GP emails prescription to pharmacy and then they deliver to your door. So a delivery arrives. A big beefy chap in a red t-shirt - not your normal pharmacy person. So I looked where he went and it was to an enormous fire engine parked across the road with a full crew on board. I grinned manically and gave a thumbs up to which they replied with thumbs and grins. Made my day. I see no reason this cooperation should not continue after lock down, they are sitting around with not much to do most of the time and the whole crew were there ready to take off in any direction if necessary. Maybe next time they will sound their nee-naa as well.

Like nearly everyone else, my best thing was meeting up with my son, his partner and their son. We went for a walk through the woods and had a picnic. It was lovely to see them and so hard not to hug them!

Sweetpea60 Fri 05-Jun-20 14:25:44

The best thing for me was the birth of a beautiful granddaughter..

Kim19 Fri 05-Jun-20 14:17:51

Yep, family reunion was indeed beyond joy. Wonderful. Gilly 1952, don't know your layout, of course but great success was my Girl Guide toilet dug out and screened (sheets) at the far end of the garden. Quite a novelty and perfectly functional. Anyone using toilet, disinfectant or otherwise, was an absolute no. vampire queen, WELL DONE. I managed something similar eight years ago and the improved quality of my life has been beyond belief. Keep it off and my heartiest congratulations. All positive indeed. Bravo!

Seeing my 81 year old neighbours face when we surprised her with a socially distancing tea party for her birthday on Wednesday.

She’s alone in the world, no family at all, and needed a boost as she’s not been out of the house since September.

Her face when she saw that we’d made dainty sandwiches and provided fresh cream cupcakes for all 6 of us was a picture.

We got her a Kindle Fire Tablet so we can now video call when we can’t get to see her face to face (I’m disabled too) which I feel is a great investment.

Plus.... we gave her popping candy/space dust for the first time - she was astonished at it, drifted off to another world with a huge grin on her face, as she felt the candy popping off her tongue. When the popping had stopped she looked at us all and said ‘Isn’t that lovely - please could I have some more?’ Was hilarious grin

tuller and nannaLyn - thinking of you. These are the really important things.

I hope you are both filled with strength and have plenty of love and support for your journeys ahead.
Good luck!

Hearing that my 9 month old granddaughter can at last have her orthopedic boots attached to an iron bar removed during the daytime.bless her. She has had them on 23 hours a day for 3 months to correct her club feet. And a picture of her smiling.

Lilyflower Fri 05-Jun-20 13:17:53

My DD asked me to come for a walk with her. Lovely.

DS1 brought our two DGC for a garden visit after tea. The trampoline and swing were ready for them! FaceTime is great but to see them in the flesh was wonderful.

I've had Follicular Lymphoma since September last year. Chemo, started last November, was cut short because of Coronavirus. PET scan and subsequent gastroscopy /biopsy showed another tumour in my stomach. Had thought that by this April I'd be on the road to good health.
My DD & DGC live 200 miles away. I thought I might never see them again and was very depressed. (Unusual for me!)
My new chemo was due to start last Wednesday, which was my 73rd birthday but the hospital took pity on me and postponed it until the following day.
At lunchtime last Tuesday, there was a knock on the door - I was expecting a birthday present to be delivered - and there was my DD& DGD!!! I burst into tears! (So did my DH when he opened the side gate!)
They came round the side into our back garden - They were wearing masks and had brought their lunch with them. We sat well apart and didn't hug. It was absolutely wonderful - the best birthday present ever! Very glad it was a warm sunny day.
They stayed for a couple of hours and then drove 4 hours back home again. (They'd stopped off at all the service areas between Clacket Lane and Gordano - they said they'd never seen such clean loos!)
This was the most wonderful surprise and made me feel positive again.
New chemo started last Thursday and I've had 3 treatments since then. Although this regime is much more aggressive, I have less extra meds to take and feel absolutely fine so far! Fingers crossed, this treatment WILL WORK!!! (Feeling positive now and not at all depressed.). (Still got all my hair which is currently pink! It makes everyone smile!)

My son and grandson came round yesterday. Tea and cake in the garden whilst grandson played on swing. Lovely. Today daughter and two daughters will be coming to do same. I feel complete!

tuller Fri 05-Jun-20 12:39:21

My Brother came home from hospital yesterday, admitted 3rd April, was on a ventilator for 4 weeks, in itc , he is still very weak, has lost 3 stone, still needs 24/7 care and physio daily. Its the BEST THING he is home and family can care for him, we are so thankful he is with us and we can get him through the next stage. People be aware this can happen to you and yours, stay safe x

glammagran Fri 05-Jun-20 12:18:28

Theoddbird your quilt is truly beautiful, a masterpiece. Congratulations to you

Reading right through this thread with only one negative comment and brilliant news from Carmel. Can remember that feeling. Far better than winning first prize on the lottery.

Video of GS3 having water poured over his head and shouting “more, more” and video of GD1 looking so triumphant as she stands on her own for the first time.

My son called to tell me that he and his wife have agreed a date to move from Bristol to Suffolk where they will stay with DiL's parents until they move to Germany in October. As I live about half way between the two locations they will use me as a toilet stop off and refreshments - hopefully in the garden if it's fine. I haven't seen them since Christmas so it's something to look forward to even though it is over 3 weeks away. The move will be in 2 stages as DiL is expecting my first grandchild in September so her mother is helping by driving the larger vehicles and I should get a visit each time they do the journey. Exciting times. A realise I need to start tidying and cleaning as things have rather slipped during lockdown and my son's MiL has never been to my house before - not that she'll be inspecting I'm sure, but the downstairs loo need to be spotless!

Braganza Fri 05-Jun-20 12:11:34

On Wednesday my son and his partner 'invited me to dinner' - I'm in London and they live in Norwich. We both cooked the same dishes and ate on Skype! It was really lovely to share a meal again.

Kate51 Fri 05-Jun-20 12:07:23

For me, it was my friend coming to visit. She brought her own flask and we had a lovely catch up in the garden, 2 Metres apart. My family are too far away for a visit so this was lovely

BoBo53 Fri 05-Jun-20 12:06:10

Seeing my five year old granddaughter on Zoom excitedly showing us the 12 week scan picture of her baby brother or sister! So beautiful I’ll remember it always!
