Good Morning Everyone,
Its clear blue sky with cloud at the moment here in Brackley this morning.
Usual day , shop queing seems to be cooling down in respect of certain shops.
I popped to Boots yesterday to pick up prescriptions and walked straight in , stood on the respective mark usual details asked for , picked them up walked out , told next person I had been only customer.
Also had confirmation of my 2nd show trip refund .
Will be interesting as of June 15th with face masks on public transport with possible fines for those without them on , mind you that is when all non essential shops reopen .
Take Care ,and be Safe
Mick

I'm only on page 43 of the The Mirror and the Light Urmston. Plan to give it a good go this weekend.

You won’t be disappointed Lins1066

Spoil yourself!

Good morning all from a dreary and cool Glasgow.

I have just spent ages writing my usual epistle and it all disappeared! ? Not a good start to the day. grin

DH has been up since the crack of dawn, as I managed to persuade him to play golf.
He has been incarcerated with me for over 12 weeks and I think that he has served his sentence with exemplary behaviour, he needs a spot of day release and I need an empty wink

The golf course has strict regulations in place and he will strip of at the back door (not a pretty sight) and shower when he gets back. I may just hose him down! ?
He needs to get out and have a break from me. Not once, has he complained about being stuck in with me, but I feel so guilty about it all.

Yesterday I had a shoe cull, which resulted in only two pairs from my Imelda Marcus collection, being consigned to the charity bag. blush
I have so many shoes, collected over many years, bought abroad, mainly bargain buys from markets. When I was working, I could wear them every day, all matched to my outfits.
How shallow that now seems in the current climate. sad.
I don't know why I don't ditch the lot and buy a load of slippers, as I won't be going anywhere soon! grin

The Scottish Govt. contacted me yesterday, asking me to complete a survey on shielding, to help inform the Govt's new shielding policy.
What a fiasco! ?
Despite being very computer literate, it took five attempts to access it, never mind answer the questions. I got a message saying I had already started it and needed a password, I hadn't and I didn't have a password!!!!
I'm sure many will give up trying.
Once I did manage to start, it kept crashing. Disappointingly, there was no facility for writing comments, just radio buttons.
I wasn't a happy bunny, especially when I read that the survey was open until 14th June, meaning by the time the results were even looked at, it would be ages before any new decisions were made about shielding.
I have agreed to participate in any future discussions and surveys. We need a voice, shielding in my situation has not been easy, especially the lack of healthcare. Rant over! wink

Today's cull, is the glory hole under the stairs. I've been itching to do it for ages, but DH always moans about the mess and feels the necessity to get past at the most inopportune moments.

I also plan to make millionaire's shoerbread with the stash of condensed milk. My neighbours are all complaining about weight gain, but I don't see them refusing my offerings.

Harri such a sad time for your family and Jacq10, I'm sorry to hear you are still struggling. ?
Urmston, I have view envy! ?
Great news about your son, Grandmattie, you must be relieved.
Hoping for some good news from Gilly and Cherry, who hasn't been feeling great.

Have the best day you can.

Good morning all. I had a very restless night with many weird dreams. Feel very groggy this morning.

DS1 just messaged to say don’t go to Asda as 20 caravans have parked on the fields there. Travellers I assume. They couldn’t get in one entrance so broke down fences and got in another way. It’s a beautiful area with lots of fields and woods. What a shame!

5 yr old GD went to school yesterday and had a lovely day. It seems to have worked well. They stay in their ‘bubble ‘of 10 and don’t mix with the other ‘bubbles’ . ?.

I love Cornish Pasties puzzler and the real ones will be gorgeous. Enjoy.

grandmattie how wonderful your son has managed to find a flight home. You will be so happy to see him.

I have no task today nina and I do like a focus to my day. So just aimless pottering for me . (Good way to describe these days)

Nice to have a day in reading, urmstongran . Lovely when you get stuck in a book. I’m just about to read Birdcage Walk by Helen Dunmore for book club. Anyone read it?

Have a nice day all. ♥️

Good morning it was damp here this morning but looking brighter now.

Doctor’s telephone appointment this morning then our usual walk. Will take some dried yeast to a friend as she can’t get any. I managed to get a 500gm bag.

So ? Urmston I would like to feel the sun.
Gingster maybe your travellers are the ones who have just left our sports field here leaving a lot of mess and apparently a smell of sewage!

Susan56 Fri 05-Jun-20 08:48:38

Morning all from a sunny windy north Wales where I’m still lolling abed! What a lovely word lolling is - just rolls off the tongue and so easy to do as well!?

Nothing planned so will just dip in and out of this thread seeing what you’re all up to - nice things hopefully x

Gingster Fri 05-Jun-20 08:51:18

* grannysomerset* a remedy for your thorn. I did it for a splinter so hopefully would work for a thorn. A raisin placed on the thorn and wrapped round with a plaster to keep it in place. Keep it on overnight (or all day) . When you remove it , press the end of the thorn that is in your finger and it should slide out of the puncture hole. I know, I know weird but it does work. Google it to see a video.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. The sun is shining in South Yorkshire at the moment. It was pretty mixed yesterday - lots of heavy showers. The garden will be better for it. Domestics today, and getting on with the knitting.
I finished The Mirror and the Light on Monday, Lins1066; what a wonderful book! I felt quite lost when it ended. Have a good safe day, folks.

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Good morning all,

Bright, sunny, cloudy and breezy at the moment, but it has rained through the night again. I think rain is forecast for later. Mustn't grumble really, as the gardens desperately need it. It's amazing how quickly the grass perks up again once it has rained, isn't it? Ours is looking much greener and fresher than a few days ago.

Had a socially distanced meet with some neighbours yesterday afternoon which was nice. Didn't think it was going to happen as the sky became very dark and there were splashes of rain, but it cleared by our arranged meet up time and even the sun got out (which hadn't been forecast). We managed a couple of hours then the heavens opened and we had to quickly scuttle back into our own homes! It was lovely to have the chance to chat and experience a sense of normality in these very strange times.

Today will be a pottering day, put in a wash load, prepare tonight's meal - that kind of thing.

Good news that your son will be coming home from India, Grandmattie. You must be really looking forward to seeing him.

A lovely view from your balcony, Urmstongran.

Good luck with the tidying, marydoll but don't overdo it or your DH might not go out again to play golf and leave you on your own.

Keep safe, everyone.

glammagran Fri 05-Jun-20 08:59:20

Gingster I read Birdcage Walk when it was first published and really enjoyed it. I keep meaning to walk along the avenue in Bristol after which the book is named. Very sad Helen Dunmore died. I’ve read all her adult books and DD2 read her Inigo series as a child.

Georgesgran Fri 05-Jun-20 09:03:14

Good morning from a bright but very breezy NE. Want to say thank you to GNs who sent good wishes yesterday. It really isn’t an enviable position to be in, but many of you will have nursed your DHs to the end. It’s 4 years now since his diagnosis of stage IV cancer and he’s amazed everyone by his resilience, but this last couple of weeks has seen a marked decline. He’s suddenly frail, unsteady on his feet and confused, but I’ve persuaded him to stay in bed a little longer today and rest as he’s sleeping for long periods. Thankfully he’s not in any pain at all.

As you know I was at my friends’ son’s funeral yesterday. Unfortunately, after the eulogy, the Speaker broke down and the elder brother of the deceased had to complete part of the service!

Awaiting medical supply delivery today for DD2, so that will go into the garage for a couple of days before I unpack it.

Might pull a few weeds later, then again - might not!

Hope everyone has a safe day.

gma Fri 05-Jun-20 09:05:19

Still waiting, rather impatiently, here in Norwich , for some significant rainfall! A teaspoon full yesterday afternoon and since then...zilch!!!
The sky looks grey and heavy and the barometer is still dropping! So it’s all in the hands of the gods!
Had my first trip to Sainsbury’s , for 11 weeks, (other supermarkets available here!) yesterday afternoon! 5 minutes waiting to go in! Very orderly and very few people., shelves very well stocked and was able to get everything I wanted! Several customers wearing masks (Me also)and able to clean hands when leaving ! That’s me done for a couple of weeks!
Sorting out cupboards in kitchen today, and a tidy up of the airing cupboard!!!
Stay safe and be a lert!

Gingster Fri 05-Jun-20 09:10:45

Is it best to read the first two books in the Wolf Hall Trilogy or does the Mirror andthe Light stand on its own?

QuaintIrene Fri 05-Jun-20 09:16:53

Good morning everyone from a dull, chilly West Yorkshire.
Big cat is well, enjoying her treats and naps.
I am steadily getting better after a few set backs. I did think that things were improving a bit quick, but I can only keep on getting on with things.
I ordered my shopping yesterday and here’s hoping my bottle of wine is delivered for my birthday. Can’t face the supermarket right now.
Anyway. Enough.
Have the best, safest day you can, folks and my thoughts go to those who are ill or troubled ?

Marydoll Fri 05-Jun-20 09:19:21

Squiffy ?

Bathsheba for the riddle. ?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 05-Jun-20 09:20:57

Good morning Mick and all x

It is very grey, windy and the rain clouds seem to be gathering here in S E Essex.

We have a fish delivery today, straight from the boat curtesy of an AC (Sar53 if you are interested and like fish PM me and I will give you the details). GrandpaGravy has ordered some organic meat which should have arrived yesterday but was delayed until today.

Had arranged to meet up with some of my gym friends in one of their gardens this morning but not sure if it will go ahead in this weather?

Keep safe and well folks and have a fabulous Friday ?

Auntieflo Fri 05-Jun-20 09:27:57

Good morning*Mick, Annie, and all.
There is a bit of sun this morning, but a chilly breeze, and the garden feels fresher after a drop of rain.
We decided to try shopping in Tesco yesterday afternoon, and there were NO queues, no waiting and straight in.
Wonderful, I had been dreading the sight of a snaking queue around the car park. We haven't been to Tesco for weeks.
But once inside, something started to irritate my throat, and I just had to cough. I did have a mask on. I spoke to one of the assistants, and he said they were cleaning the air con filters, so maybe it was that. Once we were back in the car and on the way home, all the irritation stopped.
A couple of days ago, I made a bean bag support for my Ipad, and it has been so useful. Very easy to do, and using up a bit of material from my stash.
Today I am tempted to go to Lidl and see what plants are on offer, rather than mooch about indoors, looking for something to do.
Good luck with the culling in your glory hole Marydoll.
Have a good day one and all.

BladeAnnie Fri 05-Jun-20 09:28:43

Good morning all from mid-Notts - very changeable weather-wise, one minute as dark as night and the next minute bright sunshine. A day of bitting and bobbing today - no plans as such. Stay safe everyone and may Friday be kind to us all x

gillgran Fri 05-Jun-20 09:30:48

Good Morning to you all, from Cambs., After a cloudy start, it's sunny now, we had our first drop of rain late last night, & again earlier this morning. DH says it's enough to settle the dust, but not nearly enough for the garden.!! hmm.

[Mick] mentioned face coverings on public transport, are many people wearing them in shops? (I'm not getting to shops, atm).

Take Care Folks.

Megs36 Fri 05-Jun-20 09:40:34

Bit of a sad day, Today should be my grandsons wedding day, all the previous years planning now postponed.
till next year ??

EllanVannin Fri 05-Jun-20 09:50:33

Good Morning Everyone x.
Some heavy showers intermittently between the watery sun, so not a nice day at all. I don't mind a drop of rain but it doesn't know when to stop here once it starts. Very soggy underfoot.

I was hoping to go to D's today to see the twins on their Birthdays, but because of the weather not being suitable for garden sitting, it's not wise to be indoors as there'd be no distancing so it'll be a phone greeting. I've got their cards and money here too. Can't be helped for the time being.

I've missed my crumpets so far this week and have been having Marmite on toast but find I'm hungry again not long after so the other morning I did a poached egg between two slices of Marmite toast----very tasty. grin

That lovely view Urmston. I wouldn't mind waking up to that every morning even if I didn't go anywhere smile

Just a few local errands to do, butcher and greengrocer, to keep me going for a few days----a stew I think considering the weather's bad for the next couple of days, rain and winds.

I send you strength to cope Georgesgran, as I've done that in the past and know the feeling x flowers

Hoping everyone gets through another day unscathed. I've got lazier than ever with my sorting/shredding programme pretty well tailed off.

Stay safe and well everyone xx

Third attempt at posting this morning .......iPad playing up .

Good morning from the NE coast where we have had rain on and off for the past few days . It’s dry at the moment but the black clouds suggest the rain won’t be long .

Spent most of yesterday at “that place” doing wages, catching up, clearing out etc. Had a conference call with a customer who we were hoping might be about to place an order . They were asking the right questions but no formal order as yet. I think industry is almost on hold waiting to see what happens next. Worrying times .

I was hoping to see a post from Mancgirl . Have I missed something ? Surely her new grandchild must’ve arrived by now ?

Will have to go back and catch up .

Have as good a Friday as possible everyone .
Love

Gillybob x

I have read ‘Birdcage Walk’ too. Another good read! I know what you mean Greyduster about feeling a bit ‘lost’ when you finish a good book.

I felt I’d lost some dear friends who I really cared about when I finished ‘A Little Life’ a 2015 novel by American novelist Hanya Yanagihara. The novel was written over the course of eighteen months. Despite the length and difficult subject matter it became a bestseller. One of my top 10 books!
