Hi all,
I made a lovely mug cake today, I'm going to have it now. It is very quick and easy. This is how I did it. I hope you enjoy it. X
Pour a small amount of milk (probably a bit less than you would put into your tea) into a cup, and crush six biscuits into it (I used oreos). Keep crushing the biscuits and milk together with a fork until it becomes a sort of paste. Add a small amount of chocolate (optional, I used chocolate orange pieces but you can use any, Kinder Bueno would be lovely) microwave on full power for 1min 20 secs, checking intermittently. Leave to set. X

That sounds lovely. Next time I have some chocolate in the house, I will try it. I know you said it was optional, but I really love chocolate ?

Actually, I finished off my tea with the cheat's/poor man's version version - I just ate that many biscuits straight out of the tin (and now feel guilty about it)!

It sounds nice, but I couldn't eat six biscuits all at once.

Bathsheba Tue 09-Jun-20 21:53:37

Yes I thought that seemed rather a lot of biscuits for one serving. It does sound nice though, something nice and quick to make when you've nothing in the house that will do to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Ha ha, this reminds me of when the DGC and I tried to make microwave mug cakes. They were like concrete so I made some custard to soften them up but they were still inedible.

Callistemon Tue 09-Jun-20 22:30:24

Ps it was an ordinary cake recipe.

Callistemon Tue 09-Jun-20 22:31:41

Pps I'm sure your recipe is better.

FlyingHandbag Tue 09-Jun-20 22:41:18

MamaCaz I love chocolate too! Don't feel guilty, it's a treat!
ladymuck it isn't actually a lot, it is just so the batter isn't runny.
Bathsheba it's great.
Callistermon that's a shame... you should try this one.
I meant to say, it would be lovely with cream on top. X

How about Lockdown cheesecake. A digestive biscuit, spread with cream cheese or mascarpone, with jam on top. No cooking , maximum calories, sadly.

FlyingHandbag
At least the DGC still laugh about the microwave cupcakes!

Callistemon Wed 10-Jun-20 10:19:40

No, no, no.
My summer clothes have all shrunk during lockdown.

Theoddbird Wed 10-Jun-20 10:20:38

It sounds absolutely gorgeous. My problem is I don't have biscuits, chocolate or a microwave....hahaha

sarahellenwhitney Wed 10-Jun-20 11:04:48

Bathsheba
Halve the quantity of ingredients that is, unlike myself who rarely when it comes to anything involving chocolate, does things by half.

Pantglas2 Wed 10-Jun-20 11:11:32

Tattygran14 - I do that one if I haven’t made a proper pudding and it works with gingernuts as well!

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 10-Jun-20 11:12:12

Sounds interesting, especially the chocolate part!!

icanhandthemback Wed 10-Jun-20 11:31:55

Most nights I have Fat Free Quark mixed in with a Chocolate Options. To that I add fruit (sometimes frozen so it takes longer to eat) and a Chocolate Brownie Fibre One bar broken into pieces. It is like eating chocolate brownie cheesecake and is relatively low in fat, sugar and calories whilst being a good fibre source. If you are on SW it is only 5 1/2 Syns too.

Noreen3 Wed 10-Jun-20 12:00:41

that sounds a really nice recipe to try. It's simple too,it never seems worth doing anything complicated when you're on your own.

Lupin Wed 10-Jun-20 12:15:28

Thanks for that recipe FlyingHandbag. I don't have inhibitions about that number of biscuits.
I have just started to make meals in a mug to try and control my portions and bought a couple of recipe books = Meals in a Mug by Denise Smart and Microwave Mug Meals by Theo Michaels. The results are delicious and I'm using my microwave like never before. How do you fancy chocolate orange cake, banana muffin with pecan and maple syrup, blueberry and almond cake, sticky toffee pudding etc. etc.
Theo Michaels gives a calorie count and nutritional info for each recipe at the back of the book. I wish I hadn't found the list!

As I don’t have a microwave oven, are there any cakes like this that can be cooked in a conventional oven?

Taichinan Wed 10-Jun-20 14:24:24

I have just ordered the two books you mention Lupin for my two GCs. ? they enjoy them!

FlyingHandbag Wed 10-Jun-20 14:28:24

Aepgirl

I'm not sure, there most likely will be. I love the microwave, I mostly use it for melting chocolate. X

Bluecat Wed 10-Jun-20 21:53:40

I could eat six biscuits all at once...

Lucca Wed 10-Jun-20 23:28:46

I don’t understand how you can crush six biscuits into less milk than you would have in your tea? Unless you have incredibly milky tea?! Yuck

Callistemon Wed 10-Jun-20 23:34:28

I think I'd rather eat the biscuits and have a cup of cocoa.

However, I've never bought Oreos and the cocoa in the cupboard says bbe July 2019.
I've no idea why I've kept it.

narrowboatnan Thu 11-Jun-20 13:27:41

Aepgirl I don’t have a microwave either, but would get the same effect I would have thought if you did it in a saucepan over a gentle heat
