Public Loos

Never mind little children who can’t “hold it”..........?

I asked the assistants outside and they said I could go straight in (without basket or trolley). I wouldn't bother but for my water pill, otherwise I take it after the shopping trip. It is another nuisance, our carefree shopping is sadly gone!

I think the situation is improving especially as shops will be open next Monday.

It’s a bit hit and miss though as even towns in the same county can vary.

We’ve found it’s fine in the car going somewhere as a lot of petrol stations have toilets and motorway services are all open.

The problem arises when we get to our destination!

It is a nuisance but as I certainly would not want to clean them I would not expect anyone else to.

It does keep the numbers of people down that will be out for long periods at a time.

Couldn’t agree more Luca .......it’s us older ladies who have given birth and have weak bladders through so many health reasons that’s the real problem with no toilet facilities.

Our local toilets are open as they are each a separate unisex cubicle which you enter from the car park. Elsewhere the older style ones where you go in one door to a row of toilets are still shut.

We have a composting loo at our allotment site, thank goodness! The notice inside says"please leave it as you would wish to find it," cleaning products, paper towels and sanitizer in there. If it wasn't there I might have to use a bucket!

I think some public loos near me are open. They certainly are at one country park as my friend used them.

Our supermarket allows you in to use the loo without queueing. The loo is by the entrance making it easier to manage. They have removed the entrance door to the loos and it us quite easy and safe to use.

It seems to depend on the area. The coastal ones in small towns are open but those in larger towns are not in Norfolk and yet National Trust properties are still closed. I won't visit anywhere that has no loo!

I am with Rosenoir here, I wouldn’t want to clean them. Also I wouldn’t use one, who knows whose used it before you!

My local town centre - and also the next town about 2 miles away - have absolutely NO PUBLIC TOILETS whatsoever.

Usually the only ones are those inside Major Supermarkets, Coffee Shops (closed), Bookmakers (currently closed) and the local Council Building (currently closed).

I d-r-e-a-d going shopping - not helped by that 'little white pill' every morning .

We have 5 sets of toilets in the town, (I know them all!) 2 lots are open, one being at the bus stop which is a 40 minute journey to the next town.

Squat behind a bush. It's always been my preference as I hate using public loos.

When I reach my daughter's late at night after a flight I insist on a shower. Rolled eyes but I can't go to bed without after using a public loo.

In Scotland the public toilets are being deliberately kept locked to deter visitors but many of us feel trapped in the local town. There is only one medium sized supermarket and it has no facilities. We normally take a ferry to shop in Lidl or Asda, once a month, do a big shop and save money but without the loos we are stuck and the local supermarket prices are high.

COVID or not, I always avoid public toilets. It’s not that they aren’t cleaned properly or regularly, it’s the way other people use them.

I have to in our nearest city to bank a cheque and I don't know how I am going to manage with no toilets. I am going to ring the bank today, The Metro Bank, and ask them if they have a loo I can use when I come in. They can open all the shops they like to encourage to go out and spend but it won't happen until we have toilets. No reason why they can't open with everyone taking responsibility for keeping it clean and wiping down.

who wants to use a public loo at the best of times? not me! I have to be real desperate, some are YUCK!

good grief the world is mad

Such a simple basic function, that now it's inaccessible, can cause all manner of problems.
Perhaps we should all don adult nappies, and hope for the best.... ?

Surely public toilets are perfectly safe to use if we wash our hands thoroughly after using them ?

There have always been different viruses and diseases around haven’t there, so theoretically there has always been a slight risk of contracting something by using public loos even before this pandemic.

It just comes back to the old advice of thorough hand washing.

When they do open i will be carrying a pack of sanitizing, antibactria wipes in my bag to wipe everything that i may have to touch. Ewww!!!!!!

The Guardian have an article today in this issue. It's becoming a public health concern as people are going out and about without the usual facilities plus of course the obvious distress it's generating.

Lots of people have IBS and when they need a loo they need it quickly. The big Tesco near me has a loo which was out of action for at least a year before Lockdown. I couldn't shop there.

I can't believe annifrance who goes behind a bush rather than use a public loo !
In one of my nearby towns, the fact that the two public loos are shut is causing a problem - somebody posted that they were walking their dog along the river bank, off the lead and the dog dived into some bushes - she went to fetch him out and found him gobbling down human excrement ! Apparently this area was also on the banks of a small stream and by the amount , looked like it had been used as a toilet for quite a while!
