I am so very sorry. My computer has died on me. Am having to use MacS's and am in a bit of a pickle. Just wanted to open this new kitchen and try to catch up later.

Izabella if your CH's sight is bad enough to be registered partially sighted or even worse, he will receive a financial allowance and also your council is duty-bound to assist you. I have Macular Degeneration which is not bad enough yet to be registered but I, before Covid went to my local Macular group and we invited various companies to show their wares but on the whole, they were very expensive.

A lot depends on what is wrong with him as to the help available. There are simple things on the market for eg not overfilling a mug for tea or coffee. Look up Amazon for items for the partially sighted and see what they have to offer.

You can always PM me. Good luck.

Ice skating has now taken on a different meaning for me!

soop, I could swear that the Australian sheepdog is grinning! I'm sure it's because he was happy to have his photograph taken by you.
I am a huge fan of Noel Fitzgerald. He is so kind to the owners of the poorly pets and so unbelievably skilful in the extraordinary procedures he has invented. I've often wished I could refer myself to him to fix the verebra in my neck which is causing me to have tingling in my hand! wink
Now. Izabella, when I hear the skating commentator mention a perfectly executed 'triple salchow', I'll have a very different picture in mind! shock

soop Fri 24-Jul-20 14:00:36

Izabella Your post has made me laugh aloud. The very notion of salchow maneuvers (I've spent at least ten mins trying to get that spelling right) between the sheets, makes my eyes water. Also, I can imagine a serious spasm of cramp coming on. grin

Maw You've had a horrible time since your lovely Hattie first became unwell. I know how we felt whenever Rory was in pain. It's good of you to spare time to update us. We will all hope that she is over the worst and that her appetite and zest for life is completely restored.

We are great fans of the Irish super vet - Noel Fitzpatrick - whose program was on tv last night.

Charleyg The name Tara is perfect for our girl. If she were human, she'd be sporting upper-crust clothing, sunglasses on top of head, and watching a game of polo. After which, she'd sip on a well chilled dry Martini. wink

Happy 43rd wedding anniversary to Lins and your darling. Have a wonderful day. We shall raise a glass of cheer in your honour this evening. flowers

I met a young lady walking an Australian sheep dog recently. The dog was so unusual, especially the ears. I took a photo and have just finished a wee watercolour painting to give to her. The young lady feeds orphaned lambs and is wonderfully caring where animals are concerned. The dog's name is Ivy.

Well I never ...... Izabella, we live and learn ?
I’m sorry I’m no help with software to assist impaired/failing sight. I hope someone can give you information .

Izabella Fri 24-Jul-20 11:30:06

Good morning from a warm Shire where the sun is deliberating what to do, and CH has been informed he should get an eye clinic appointment 'in August.' In the meantime I look frward to the predicted high of 75 degrees. We shall see.

I spent a while this morning trying to sort out who was who with Tara and Hattie. I think I am up to speed now. So Maw what a stressful time for you. Sending ear tickles for your lovely Hattie , and flowers for yourself. As for Tara I hope her sleeping arrangement's are now more to her liking

Antislip flooring now on order for the kitchen following my latest triple salchow. We also had an impressive exploding plate scenario when CH popped a plate on the ceramic hob not realising it was on at the time.

My alzheimers support worker is still on the case for software to help CH's failing vision. Anyone in the kitchen have any experience of this?

Well this post started at 0900 and I think I am just about there. I must just share this with you before I disappear into the garden. I could not remember how to spell salchow so looked it up. I learned as well as a complex ice skating move it can also mean - and I quote - ^can also be defined as an extremely frisky move performed during sexual intercourse.^ So there you go ...........

TOYA and welcome to newcomers to the kitchen.

Charleygirl5 Fri 24-Jul-20 10:03:35

Doodle I think in her own little way she appreciates living here because apart from my early morning awakenings she is so good.

Maw my heart goes out to that young lady. I do hope she is now over the worst.

Puzzler61 Fri 24-Jul-20 09:50:05

I too have been following Hattie’s progress and wishing her well. Maw can you see an improvement today - is she still eating and showing more interest in usual things, ear rubs, favourite toys?
You will be very busy with prep for family lunch tomorrow - the weather is so unpredictable and it’s best to plan for inside - then it will be a bonus if turns out nice and you can all enjoy your lovely garden. ? ?

Doodle Thu 23-Jul-20 23:13:41

Oh poor Hattie maw. It’s awful to see anyone in pain but animals and young children is awful because they can’t tell you. So glad you got her to the vet quickly. Hope she is well on the mend soon.

I think Tara suits her charleygirl. She certainly got lucky when she found you. ?

cornergran Thu 23-Jul-20 22:55:53

Hattie is much loved maw, I can only hope she’s over the worst. Thank goodness for pet insurance. Love coming your way for Saturday, the weather is a major pain at times but you’re well prepared and I know will have the best day possible. Sleep well. A hug from a draughty Somerset.

Lins1066

These were delivered this morning from DH, we have been married 43 years today.

Congratulations! Lins - flowers from me too!

MawB Thu 23-Jul-20 22:14:37

I’m sorry I’ve been “away” but while I have been so worried about Hattie I haven’t been able to focus on GN
Hattie has had either Rhabdomyolosis or Myoglobinuria - both to do with muscle fibre breaking down into the bloodstream which the kidneys can’t cope with. Vets’ opinion seems to be divided as they seem to be the same thing but the first seems to be a cause and the second the effect.
I am hoping Hattie is out of the woods, another checkup with the vet today, but it has absolutely shaken me for a young dog to be so poorly. We had a bit of a drama on Tuesday late afternoon when she started screaming. Fortunately I was able to get straight through to the vets and the nurse could hear her. She was clearly in pain, but somehow still jumped into the car and the vet gave her a shot of an opioid pain killer and after about an hour of just standing and panting she lay on her bed and was fine for the rest of the night. I am thinking cramp or muscle spasm perhaps because her electrolytes were all over the place?
She was much better yesterday and is eating normally again, always a good sign. A few more days of anti-b’s and another check up including blood test next week.
It has been a thoroughly nasty 10 days - I haven’t slept properly and have felt too sick to eat apart from snacking.
The bill topped £2000 today and there will be more next week, but fortunately PetPlan will cover all but the first £100.
It has not been an easy week as I said, added to which Saturday would have been our Golden Wedding and while I am blessed to have had 47 years with Paw nevertheless the memories are bitter sweet.
Gosh, I don’t mean to sound so grumpy - I’m not really!
Anyway prepping tomorrow for a family lunch on Saturday - it was intended to be a barbecue but the forecast is ☔️ and ⚡️- great! So I have been moving furniture around so that if we are indoors (10 of us) we can social distance between two rooms. Shame, the garden is looking the best it has done in years and I have a big teak table under a pergola plus a 4-seater under an umbrella which would have been ideal. Typical!

Charleygirl5 Thu 23-Jul-20 21:41:30

Doodle Tara had two previous homes before she came to me aged two. She was called Connie and Caroline and I did not think either name suited her. She is petite, black and white, intelligent and most of the time a lady. I left her nameless for a week and then the name Tara just hit me. She can be a delicate soul. She soon learned her new and last name. She is upstairs resting her eyes and as it is approaching 10 pm she will be seeking me out soon to remind me out to shower then go to bed to read my book and stroke her. She does not like clean bedding so she did not stay long with me last night. The "smells" would have vanished until she starts again making my bed hers as well.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 23-Jul-20 18:19:06

Congratulations on 43years ?? lins

cornergran Thu 23-Jul-20 17:58:26

Happy anniversary to you both lins, hope you’re reconnected to the digital world soon.

Doodle Thu 23-Jul-20 17:56:10

Sorry Freyer I can’t help with the wool. As someone suggested you’d probably be better off starting your own thread on the subject. Gransnetters are a resourceful lot and you may well find someone who can help.

Doodle Thu 23-Jul-20 17:54:12

Happy anniversary lins ???

Doodle Thu 23-Jul-20 17:49:25

izabella, as usual, your humour makes me chuckle. You have a wonderful way with words ?
Lovely Mila soop. ?
grannysomerset at least it’s over now. Relax tonight. We need to get used to going out again and it’s a challenge for some of us.
nanytopsy I bet you’re as excited as they are ?
charleygirl I will really have to report you to management if you aren’t keeping up the high standards Tara expects. I was just thinking it might be something to do with her name. It’s very ladylike, quite posh, horse and hounds sort of name. You must have realised her character when you named her ?
granygravy sorry I missed your birthday yesterday. Hope you had a good day. How lovely to have your DGS with you ?

Puzzler61 Thu 23-Jul-20 17:44:54

Happy Anniversary Lins and hubby. We have been married 43 years too (though it’s not our anniversary).
???‍❤️‍?

Lins1066 Thu 23-Jul-20 17:40:43

Oh dear that sounds as though he doesn't live with me! He does and he deserves a medal.
Maw I hope that Hattie is recouperating and recovering well. I know what it is like caring for a sick dog, it floors you too. ?

Lins1066 Thu 23-Jul-20 17:34:54

These were delivered this morning from DH, we have been married 43 years today.

Lins1066 Thu 23-Jul-20 17:28:44

Good Afternoon everyone. I am sorry to have been absent for about a week, we have annoying pooter problems. BT have investigated both inside and outside the house. They have gone away and deliberated....after a conflab it seems that our problems are underground ? between us and our neighbour. They are returning next week to dig up the pavement. Rest assured that you are all in my thoughts and I will attempt to catch up with everyone. Cherry, soop, annsixty,Morethan, the Panaches, Blue Sapphire ??

soop Thu 23-Jul-20 16:55:31

A mug of hot chocolate sounds like a mighty good plan. Whenever I can glean any news regarding the alpaca wool situation, I shall report back with details.

Logging off time for me in bonnie Kintyre. Sending all good wishes to all our lovely lot here in the kitchen. smile moon

Freyer Thu 23-Jul-20 16:39:21

Thank you for the welcome soop. I am planning a mug of hot chocolate and a website trawl tonight. I don't like change much and am probably being way too picky.

soop Thu 23-Jul-20 16:26:21

Welcome, Freya. I'm afraid that I cannot steer you in the direction of the supplier you seek. In Kintyre we have a lady who owns Alpacas (or did). I could try to find out if she has any contacts.

Freyer Thu 23-Jul-20 15:54:01

Thank you for your answers ladies. I have only just joined GN my neighbour suggested it to me. I am not sure if my wool lady was momma wolf. Mail order customers got a lovely card from the farm to say that the mail order was closing after the loss of the couple and covid restrictions. I will ask my neighbour if she knows. The farm was in North Norfolk I had many lovely conversations with Jess about alpacas. Thank you for the warm welcome I am still getting used to this social media thing.
