Has anyone had jewellery remodelled

Thanks everyone. I am going to get the ring valued first as I don't want to spend money on remodelling if it more than the piece is worth. It would be lovely though to breathe new life into it.

By the way I never heard from Meghan!

DD has done this several times and has transformed old stones by resetting them. She has found a good jeweller who does exactly as she asked.

I second alishka in that it’s important to choose your designer carefully. Look at their previous work and references. Mine is more of an artist in precious metals. She has a studio in Hatton Garden.

I inherited several rings from mother and grandmother which didn’t fit me and looked old fashioned and sat in a drawer. One of the large diamonds was made into a ring for my eldest daughter on a special birthday ( she designed it) some were used in a 3 ring set for me and I wear as wedding/ engagement/eternity rings (OH paid ), and I still have a few diamonds for my youngest daughter. The jeweller used some of the gold in the rings to offset the cost . It was expensive, but I wear them everyday and love the designs.

When I moved to the UK, I settled in B'ham, and bought bits from a jeweller there who'd learned his craft...err..somewhere or other, pretty prestigious?...anyway, he was more than a shopkeeper, so when I inherited rings,etc, I took them to him to remodel/transform.
Later, I also went to the Jewellery Quarter, looked around, talked to jewellers, and settled on one who turned an old watchchain an elderly rel. had left me, into a fab.pair of earrings and a bracelet.
Choose your jeweller carefully, OP, talk about designs, and I'm sure you'll be delighted with your new piece(s).

It can be expensive, I have traded pieces with an antique jeweller it works out cheaper.
Obviously if there is sentimental value it’s different.

I've done a DIY job by removing a 1/4 carat diamond from an old brooch to a centre stone in a gold ring.
The ring has a lovely filigree pattern and originally the centre stone was just a crystal but has transformed it altogether. It's a vintage ring and it was an old brooch.
I do prefer " proper " stones and not duds, unless it's costume jewellery.

Yes, I have had jewellery remodelled many times. It is not always a cheap exercise but I have always been delighted with the results.

It is better than leaving the jewellery which you don't like to gather dust in a drawer.

Oh that Meghan so not a GN user after all. I doubt that my inherited piece will be in the same league or price range. Just hoping that it can be given new life and used with love.

Prince Harry personally designed and had made his special engagement ring gift for Meghan when he proposed. She obviously didn't appreciate the gesture because she had it remodelled. My original comment was sarcastic but it was obviously lost on those who don't keep up with the news.

My sister had a diamond ring re- modelled and gold bracelet.
