I've often had to wear a uniform ~ in the trillions of jobs I had during teens and student years. None were remotely stylish but it helped the customers work out who were staff I guess.
And when I worked on the conveyor belts in the factory, it identified those who were students. The staff in the factory wore different colour/style of overalls so we knew their rolls and seniority. I found it quite helpful really. Also I'm glad I didn't have to wear my own clothes. These were hard to come by (as in short of cash) and often made by me ~ so I didn't want to be getting random sundry gunk /dirt on them.
Why can't I wear this to a wedding?
"Old fashioned" expressions that young people have never heard.
