Bell it is for me

blondenana Tue 23-Jun-20 11:14:02

I have a bell which also has an extension to it in the kitchen,
I get really annoyed when people knock on the glass panel of the door, because my house is back to front, living room at the back, and if the TV is on can't hear a knock, delivery drivers are the worst,
I say there is a BELL! please ring it, can't understand why they dont,

Two bells - one at the front door and one at the back. (They have different sounds.) But like other GNs here, I find that often people ignore the (easily located) door-bells and just hammer on the doors.

We have a bell, theres no knocker on the letterbox. A lot of people ignore the bell and bang on the door

We have a very loud doorbell which can be heard at the end of our garden, but most people still knock on the door which of course we can't hear! Fortunately we have a security box for parcels so we don't miss deliveries.

We have a simple knocker and a bell.
Some people still knock on the glass panes.
Our house is nearly 120 years old and the glass has survived 2 world wars. I worry some heavy handed twit will knock vigorously and crack it, one day. (hrrmmph!)

A very loud bell so we can hear it even if in the garden.

A wifi bell that has a unit plugged in the hall and in the kitchen. People at the door can not hear the bell as there are two outside doors consequently we get several rings at a time, especially from delivery drivers.

We have both but find most callers use both too. It feels very intrusive when you hear a loud knock and the bell at the same time. It makes me feel the caller could be aggressive. I know it's silly but that's just me.

Ding dong bell

B9exchange Tue 23-Jun-20 09:20:42

Bell, but delivery drivers rap on the glass instead!

MawB Tue 23-Jun-20 09:13:34

Neither - a policeman as at No 10.

kircubbin2000 Tue 23-Jun-20 07:24:47

A bell but no one comes to the door here.I can see visitors arrive if I'm expecting them.

We have 1 of the old-fashioned bells that has a “key” to twist.

etheltbags1 Mon 22-Jun-20 19:17:05

I would love a bell pull like on really old fashioned doors. I once pulled one and it was really hard so i pulled with all my strength and the handle came off. Luckily no one was in

Neither. Anyone who wants to alert us of their presence has to knock loudly on the porch door, or walk round the house to the windows and wave. ?

Happygirl79 Mon 22-Jun-20 18:55:06

My daughter bought me one of those 'ring' video doorbells. Its brilliant. I can see who is there and speak to them without being at home!

phoenix Mon 22-Jun-20 18:07:05

Meant to add, most people just sort of knock on the glass panel in the upper part of the door.

Greenfinch Mon 22-Jun-20 18:04:27

Both but we can't hear the bell in the kitchen or upstairs so the knocker is more efficient.

Rosalyn69 Mon 22-Jun-20 18:02:09

Neither. People just stand there and wait. ?

Auntieflo Mon 22-Jun-20 18:00:28

Both here, but the knocker hardly ever gets used.

phoenix Mon 22-Jun-20 17:04:01

Neither!
Must get round to doing something about that, after all we have lived here for 15 years blush

Oopsminty Mon 22-Jun-20 16:52:12

Oh yes, cornergran!

Our front door is quite old with a large oval window at the top. It has original leaded lights and quite nice!

We have had a couple of people rapping on the glass!

I dont get it at all

And always hope that the delicate glass pieces remain in place!

cornergran Mon 22-Jun-20 16:44:41

About to have both on a new door, it will be interesting to see if either is used, the current favourite is to tap on the glass and wonder why people in the back garden don't hear.

ninathenana Mon 22-Jun-20 15:08:43

We gave a brass knocker. The top half of the door is six glass panels. It annoys me when people knock on the glass, even though I have a sign saying...
Please use the knocker, or I may not hear you ? (smiley face on the sign)
