Bell it is for me

Oopsminty Mon 22-Jun-20 13:04:55

We have both

But people tend to use the knocker more

Charleygirl5 Mon 22-Jun-20 13:12:54

Bell- I had a video entrance system fitted so I can see who is at the door, I can talk to them and also take a one/off photo so I do not need to open the door to find out who is there.

Unfortunately, I cannot open the front door remotely but I am sure it could be arranged but it would be expensive.

People still knock and I cannot hear them.

We have both but they never see the bell!

We have a bell, but I don't know why. Even the regular postman just knocks on the door.

Squiffy Mon 22-Jun-20 13:40:56

We have both, but no-one ever uses the knocker. They either ring the bell or knock hard on the glass window ?? Both knocker and bell are very visible!

GrannyGravy13 Mon 22-Jun-20 13:49:14

We have both ?‍♀️

sharon103 Mon 22-Jun-20 13:55:23

We have a door knocker but people prefer to 'hammer the door'

vampirequeen Mon 22-Jun-20 14:23:02

We have a bell but I'd love to have the sort of door that has a big old fashioned knocker.

Calendargirl Mon 22-Jun-20 15:06:12

We have a bell.

I think the trouble is that if you ring the bell and you (the visitor) doesn’t hear it ring, you wonder if it’s not working.
You then wonder if you should knock on the door?
Then, perhaps you should try the bell again?

By this time, the house owner has come to the door, cross that you have been knocking and ringing the bell, ‘For heaven’s sake, give me a chance to get to the door!’........

Large bell with a shortish rope hanging from it...really loud!!!

ninathenana Mon 22-Jun-20 15:08:43

We gave a brass knocker. The top half of the door is six glass panels. It annoys me when people knock on the glass, even though I have a sign saying...
Please use the knocker, or I may not hear you ? (smiley face on the sign)

About to have both on a new door, it will be interesting to see if either is used, the current favourite is to tap on the glass and wonder why people in the back garden don't hear.

Oopsminty Mon 22-Jun-20 16:52:12

Oh yes, cornergran!

Our front door is quite old with a large oval window at the top. It has original leaded lights and quite nice!

We have had a couple of people rapping on the glass!

I dont get it at all

And always hope that the delicate glass pieces remain in place!

phoenix Mon 22-Jun-20 17:04:01

Neither!
Must get round to doing something about that, after all we have lived here for 15 years blush

Auntieflo Mon 22-Jun-20 18:00:28

Both here, but the knocker hardly ever gets used.

Rosalyn69 Mon 22-Jun-20 18:02:09

Neither. People just stand there and wait. ?

Greenfinch Mon 22-Jun-20 18:04:27

Both but we can't hear the bell in the kitchen or upstairs so the knocker is more efficient.

phoenix Mon 22-Jun-20 18:07:05

Meant to add, most people just sort of knock on the glass panel in the upper part of the door.

Happygirl79 Mon 22-Jun-20 18:55:06

My daughter bought me one of those 'ring' video doorbells. Its brilliant. I can see who is there and speak to them without being at home!

MiniMoon Mon 22-Jun-20 19:02:06

Neither. Anyone who wants to alert us of their presence has to knock loudly on the porch door, or walk round the house to the windows and wave. ?

I would love a bell pull like on really old fashioned doors. I once pulled one and it was really hard so i pulled with all my strength and the handle came off. Luckily no one was in

We have 1 of the old-fashioned bells that has a “key” to twist.

kircubbin2000 Tue 23-Jun-20 07:24:47

A bell but no one comes to the door here.I can see visitors arrive if I'm expecting them.

MawB Tue 23-Jun-20 09:13:34

Neither - a policeman as at No 10.
