How many places are there in a kitchen for a 10" bread knife to disappear into? It was in the knife block yesterday morning; I know this because I used it to slice the loaf for breakfast toast. This morning it had gone. I've searched the dishwasher, drawers, the bin, the bread bin. Nada. So.... who's got the bread knife?

Ask St Anthony - he's good at finding things.
My glasses is the usual thing - I put them down, then wonder where I left them
hmm

I lost my sunglasses and eventually found them on the top of my head along with another pair,!

This thread has really made me giggle. I can identify with so many of the comments. My favourite kitchen knives are always disappearing and I am left with the grotty useless ones! I lost my phone recently and eventually found it on the floor of my shoe cupboard.?

We still havnt found my mother’s nifty little wheels suitcase from about 20 years ago. Everyone in the family denies having borrowed it. Maybe the mice in the loft have eaten it.

I can't find my wooden spatula. I have all the others from the set, in the drawer but this one has vanished. Not behind the drawer or in the back of the cupboard beneath it.

Mine was at the bottom of my daughter's t-shirts drawer... one of her brothers told her to keep it there in case someone came to rob us. I found it by chance. Of course, your can be in the garden, in the freezer, in the drawer with the utensils, with the dirty dishcloths hat will later be taken to the washing machine... or maybe it fell to the back of the cupboard.

My friend once found a photo of people she didn't know on her bedroom floor! She showed it to everyone who visited the house but no-one knew where it came from or who they were.

H1954 Fri 17-Jul-20 11:17:54

Stop looking for it.......from experience in our house if something's missing we stop looking and concentrate on something else and ........hey presto.......we find the item we had lost! ??

My house keys disappeared on Saturday, came back from a park get-together with DGS let ourselves in and the keys have not been seen since.
Ok for my apartment door as I have spares but not to the external house door.
Sharing with DD until I can get a new one cut, so a bit of coordinating being done.
I even went through the bin bags but no joy.

Marydoll Fri 17-Jul-20 11:11:21

She found it last night, Gwen! grin We just need to find all the other missing stuff.

BusterTank Fri 17-Jul-20 11:10:30

Perhaps my ghost has moved to your house . We have stuff go missing all the time . Some never to be seen again and some stuff turns up in the most weird places months or years later . So don't give up on hope of finding yet ?

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 17-Jul-20 11:01:55

Chewbacca can you remember what you last used it for and where you were at the time? I suppose you've tried the bread bin, or behind it?

grannybuy Fri 17-Jul-20 10:59:23

I had the opposite problem last year. I found a large table knife in my shopping bag! It certainly wasn't one of mine, nor DD's. I hadn't been in anyone else's house, or in a restaurant. It's an unsolved mystery.

Aepgirl Fri 17-Jul-20 10:56:23

Send up a prayer to St Anthony. He’s great at finding things that I mislay.
I remember my father once plumping up a cushion only to receive a bad cut from a carving knife that was behind it - my mother ignored his injury, just exclaiming ‘oh, there it is. I wonder how it got there’.

rowyn Fri 17-Jul-20 10:51:24

Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one who has lost the plot, or in my case, a circuit breaker which lived in a socket in the garage. Mower stopped working so unplugged CB to try mower when plugged directly in to socket. No joy. Kind neighbour is going to put in a new starter motor.
Soooooo when I removed the CB the logical thing would have been to pop it on the workbench close by. It's six days now,and I have scoured the garage , but NO CB! Two visitors have also looked. It's driving me mad. And yes, I have looked in the dustbins!
I just KNOW that if I buy another one, it will immediately turn up!

Meanwhile i also lost the washing up sponge that had been using minutes before.. Found it 2 days later in a cupboard!

granbabies123 Fri 17-Jul-20 10:49:02

I'm the other way ,I've got extra teaspoon and a fork that aren't mine. No idea how they got there. If I find your knife I'll let you know

twinnytwin Fri 17-Jul-20 10:40:34

They'll also be wearing my silver hoop earrings. I remember I put them somewhere safe as they're my favourite and I've worn them almost every day for the past three years. I've given up and bought an identical pair, so no doubt they'll turn up now.

PipandFinn Fri 17-Jul-20 10:39:15

I lost my hairbrush and looked everywhere for days but couldn't find it. I had to buy a new brush then found the old one on the top of my shoe rack....!!!!

Hellis Fri 17-Jul-20 10:37:46

I'd lost several pieces of cutlery, peelers etc over a few years from the kitchen drawer. One day I heard my good scissors fall down behind the drawer as I shut it, so removed t he plinth board from under the cupboard. Along with my scissors I found all the missing items plus things I didn't even know I had lost

Saggi Fri 17-Jul-20 10:34:16

I’ve lost a couple of small sharp paring knives.... thrown out with peelings is all I can guess...... as that’s where I found he third one to ‘go walkabout’... try you dustbin!

Mapleleaf Fri 17-Jul-20 10:33:48

Late last year, I couldn't find my ladle. DH and I searched the kitchen, looking carefully in the utensil holder where it should live, the cutlery drawer, the baking drawer. Zilch. Nowhere to be seen. So, we bought a new one. Of course, the old one turned up exactly where it should have been in the utensil jar. That jar had been emptied during our search for it...??

Nannyme Fri 17-Jul-20 10:32:27

I made a mask, really proud of it, now I cant find it anywhere, and no I’m not wearing it, I think it may have gone out with the rubbish.

threexnanny Fri 17-Jul-20 10:27:21

Having just turned- out my bedside cabinet drawer I can recommend looking for lost items in there. Not just misplaced stuff but things I don't remember buying in the first place!

jocork Fri 17-Jul-20 10:17:22

When my son was still a student and was home for the holidays he lost his student railcard more than once. The first time it turned up in the footrest of a recliner chair - fell in then chair folded on it!
The next time we couldn't find it anywhere, then a friend called to say she'd found it inside a book she'd had with her when at my house!
I'm still missing a cereal bowl which disappeared about a year ago when I had a friend's son staying with me for a few weeks. He swore he hadn't broken it (my first thought) and offered to replace it but I knew that would be impossible as it was an old one formerly my mother's! I still expect to find it somewhere strange eventually.
