Greedy Supermarket Charges

Maybe it is costing them more to run the service that has to be passed on somewhere ?
Iceland do do deliveries but they don't deliver everywhere - only within a certain radius of their stores.
We have been using the Asda Click and collect - you book a slot, then text them to say the time you will be there and are given a locker number to collect from. Only thing that we have found is that some of the items that have been picked for your order are not the best - I think it is possibly due to their storage.
I had a small lettuce (used to be butterhead now something else) that was nearly black and soggy on one side, so had to throw half away. They also have a problem with bananas - on website you can order a number of or by weight - we ordered 6 . One week we got 4 (they had done it by weight) this week we got 1 ! (heaven knows the thinking behind that!)

As you've been asked if you would like to, (by email?) to renew your delivery pass, I would phone the supermarket you were using at the time and ask for a refund for the 3 months when couldn't get a slot.
I definitely would if I were you.

I've just this minute signed into my Tesco account. I have had their delivery service for the last couple of months but couldn't get a delivery saver.
I've now been able to sign up for deliveries £7.99 per month (renewed by direct debit, monthly for 6 months)
Deliveries 7 days a week and priority access to 4 week slots.

At the beginning of the lockdown we couldn't get deliveries from any supermarket Eventually I managed to get them from Waitrose and they were brilliant.

I used to have a delivery pass for tue-thur but couldn't get a slot during lockdown now they want me to renew but i won't as they had my money for 3 months when i couldn't use it
Sainsbury's has delivery pass and usually get a delivery twice a month include the neighbours. why not get together with neighbours and share the cost or change supermarket

I always use Asda click and collect and as long as I spend over £25, it’s free.

There are always plenty of slots available as well, unlike delivery slots which are usually full up.

I really can’t fault them. The produce is always fresh and well within dates. Just drive up on chosen time. Assistant puts all shopping into boot of car and of we go.

Without Tesco s priority delivery slots during lock down I would have been lost, so I am grateful to them, they were the only supermarket that offered me deliveries.
I do think doubling the price is a bit much, as previously mentioned with the delivery saver it works out ok.

My experiences with Sainsburys were dreadful ie dog food substitution was toilet cleaner and half of the items had a use by date within 48 hrs.

I'm surprised at this, Dee1012, as Sainsburys have a policy of refunding the cost of any item that arrives with a use by date within 48 hours, unless the customer's been notified in advance, and then has the chance to reject it.

Tesco has been brilliant so I will continue to use them even though their delivery price has gone up. They rose to the challenge to supply food when it was impossible to get deliveries from anywhere else and their delivery staff have been so helpful and cheerful. The quality of food has been excellent and deliveries have arrived exactly when they said they would. Well done, Tesco. I will continue to be a loyal customer.

I think some people don't understand what it is like to live on a small income. "It is only £4.50, we don't need the winter fuel payments, the TV licence is only £157 a year...." The trouble is that these things are not isolated. Another hundred pounds a year might be manageable but several small price rises together may cause real problems, particularly if you are already trying to cope with the yearly rises in rates, fuel bills, etc. What may be small to you may be significant to someone else.

We have been ordering from Tesco but have switched to Asda, as my DH was exasperated by the amount of things we received that were at or close to their expiry date. I am more laid back about these things but, as a former supermarket manager, he thought it was a rip off. Asda is okay and we're glad to be able to access this service whilst we are still too nervous to go shopping.

I have used Sainsburys in the past when couldn’t get out because of health issues and found them satisfactory. So had no hesitation about returning to them. They email on the morning of delivery if anything is unavailable. Early this year I was paying £7 Dial bus fare to go shopping once a week and having to lug the shopping back home.
Another thing is that there is much more choice on line than in the store. I have found no problem with the sale buy dates.
I tried to tip the driver but he refused.

I pay Asda £24 per annum for unlimited midweek deliveries for £40 spend. They have also given me a recurring slot up to 31st March 2021

yes all these extra amounts added together when, ones income is not going up, do in the end break the bank.

£2.50 a week is and extra £130 a year.

This extra charge will be one of many extra charges.

For example, I have my local farmer delivering. His pint of milk costs 63p, in the supermarket it is 50p. I have 8 pints a week for my household. That is my milk now costs £54 per annum more than before lockdown. Similarly his eggs cost more though I am pleased with the quality etc.

All these cost issues have to be identified and then contained in some way.

We do not buy from Tesco they are cutting the amount they pay to Farmers and other suppliers and asking staff to clean the Toilets now they have sacked the cleaning contract staff. Yes we may pay a bit more where we shop but soppliers and staff are treated fairly.

We have been having regular Tesco deliveries throughout lockdown.
Just today I've changed to Asda click and collect. Tesco's site has been really stop/start and not processing usual credit card today again. They apologised and saud it's their fault but I lost 2 hours online.
I'm being charged £5 tomorrow and it will be my final delivery from them. It's too much with the delivery driver's tip as well.

When I delivered for a supermarket we were told never to accept tips. I bet his bosses don’t know about it!

Before lockdown Aldi was my preferred store and sad to say I do miss it, but as I am shielding I have tried using everyone for my deliveries and alternating. I have had Iceland deliver today and whilst they do not offer substitutions I have been quite happy with them, It is what is it, most is frozen but has been fine. After next week I will still shield myself until I feel comfortable going out and I will still shop around on line for the best deal and delivery cost. I do appreciate all the staff do for me but as my income has dropped drastically I do watch what I spend.

You can pay for a delivery saver pass with Tesco by using your Clubcard vouchers.

I don’t have regular enough deliveries now to warrant it, but when I did, I always used vouchers, so it felt as though it was free.

I had always shopped in person at the supermarket until lockdown. I had great difficulty registering with any supermarket online , so had to use 'wrinkly hour' at Sainsbugs at first, but eventually managed to get a click and collect slot at Asda, which is not a shop I ever use, normally. I have been really pleased with this way of shopping. Use by dates are always very good, and I've been pleased with the quality of the products. Vegetables ( especially broccoli and tomatoes) are cheaper and better than those from more expensive stores. I've learned to do a main shop every 2 weeks which means there is no charge for my order, and the system of collection is simple and easy. I shall continue this way of shopping, though there will be visits to Sainsburys and Waitrose from time to time, for products that are not available in Asda.
Of course I appreciate that this is no use to anyone who does not have transport!!

As others have said use the Tesco delivery saver. Could have as many deliveries as you want- or more pertinently at the moment, can get- for one monthly fee. Saves a fortune !! I

Haven't used delivery since driver took a tree down on his way out and said he hadn't done it even though DH had to get chainsaw out to clear the way for him to pass!

Sainsbury delivery charges vary according to the time of day; I usually get an evening delivery between 8 and 9pm, and it cost £1.50 or £2.00.

Do you really need a weekly delivery? It certainly makes life expensive if you do.

The problem is if you like fresh fruit and veg.

Don't despair. Supermarkets are often flexible in their charges - look at the way the price of goods changes. If they find the move costs them custom they may well return to the old charge. Why not drop them a line? If you don't tell organisations they don't know they're doing the wrong thing.

Waitrose is free, provided you spend £60 - and before I am leapt upon about their prices, I haven't found them to differ much from other big supermarkets. The food quality is excellent - on a par with M and S, and they have delivered all through the crisis without a single hitch.
