Face Masks!

I had my first experience of wearing a face mask this morning.
I knew it was going to be difficult but I had no idea how much!
I am claustrophobic so I was a bit wary but I had no idea how difficult it was going to be. I got round the garden centre but I had to keep stopping to pull it away from my face so I could breath. I was able to go outside for a while which was easier.
I did notice there were a few people not wearing them who I presume have some breathing problems or something that they get an exemption for.
I am not looking forward to next trip to Sainsbury's although I see they have said they are not enforcing the rule. I don't like getting my shopping chosen by others so I do go in person every week.
I'm sure it will get easier with practise.
Any advice on making the wearing of them easier?

May I suggest that you wear a mask at home for a few minutes each day, gradually increasing the time. You will probably quickly get used to it.
I have been wearing one for shopping all along and can honestly say I hardly notice I am wearing it any more. You might also consider changing the shape/style of mask. The pleated ones may feel less restricting as they are not as close to the face all over. Good luck!

good advice Shysal and good luck Crafty better for all if you can endure it.

Yes the blue pleated ones which I guess they are marketed as disposable but can be washed a couple of times and dry quickly. My DH couldn't stand the reusable cloth ones and I expected problems but he gets on fine with the lightweight blue ones.

Does this make 20 separate threads on face coverings?
At this rate are we going to have a whole forum devoted to face masks and coverings?

Nearly as many threads as Games!

Lucca Sun 26-Jul-20 14:28:43

Maw. Think it’s just you and I who seem to notice the 21 face mask threads !

MawB Sun 26-Jul-20 14:35:04

Tell you what Lucca , how about one of us starts a thread on the topic of the moment -Face Masks?
Where to wear them (the clue is in the name) and when to wear them - see government guidelines.
Do you think anybody would be interested? grin ?

No, I noticed the numerous threads too! No new info in any of them.

People are either for or against them, that's clear! No need to have so many threads.

To be fair, some posters only read certain threads, so may not be aware of all the other threads, before starting a thread on the same subject.?

Why don't we start a thread on how to style our clothes to accessorize with our facemasks. What colours go with what etc.
I did see a news item on a man who walked down Oxford Street wearing only a face mask to cover privates and nothing else. Scandalous!

MawB Sun 26-Jul-20 23:06:39

As long as he had his boxers on his head to cover his mouth and nose that’s fine!

BlueSky Sun 26-Jul-20 23:14:31

Back at the beginning of the pandemic there were jokes about how in the summer we would be wearing bikinis with matching face mask! ??

merlotgran Sun 26-Jul-20 23:24:51

Is this a good time to tell you about my sage green, organic Baumwolle (me neither) face covering?

It will go nicely with a dark green top, dangly earrings and Joan Collins style dark glasses.

I'm now eyeing up breathable (always an important consideration) mask scarves for the winter. DH wants me to order a camouflage one for when he goes fishing. It's important not to worry the wildlife. grin

Accessorise, somebody has thought of that.

My wife saw a fellow similar to the one you saw in Oxford Street. She nearly had a stroke..............but she just couldn't quite reach!

Ha Ha
Perhaps he was just trying to make a point, or not, depending on the weather!

I am sure there will be Sparkly gold masks out by Christmas. Sewing on the sequins already.
