These half hour paintings by him are so relaxing and happy. "Happy" a word he uses a lot.

Not night prowlers, then?

Alishka Wed 29-Jul-20 19:22:09

Praps I could hire them out to a Still Life class, Calli?

They've had food, used their litter trays, and they're now back on their chair, snoozing again....

Attack-cats they ain't....

And there they'll stay til bedtime when they'll follow me to bed...

It's a hard, exhausting life, being a cat..grin

Oh, that post was for Alishka

Callistemon Wed 29-Jul-20 17:13:24

smile ???

You're too kind!

He had such a calming and soothing voice and delivery style. When I read up on him I learnt that his voice was so calming that it was used in ASMR recordings to help alleviate stress and sleeplessness.

does he paint kittens?

They don't sit still long enough.

My three house cats do! which is why I'm sitting in the kitchen with a numb bum while they're curled up together in the sittingroom on my armchair. They've been there since about 1.00ish...

He’s permeated my whole life. All clouds are happy. Whenever I make any sort of noise that sounds like him beating the devil out of his brush I have to smile to myself. Trees have friends around them. I think he’d love the fact that he’s helping people like me through a pandemic. Someone on Facebook who is recovering from the virus has written a song about him because he reckons he helped with his recovery.

My mum who is sadly not with us anymore use to watch it years ago I use to tape it for her she had all his stuff paints etc and painted some beautiful pieces I have a couple. They where just like his.
Wonderful man.smile

I love the brush beating! He sometimes has a mischievous look when he does it.

tiredoldwoman Wed 29-Jul-20 13:57:56

Oh Dear , I didn't realise he was dead .
I stumbled upon his painting programme recently and liked his voice and his phrase ' beat the devil out of it' when cleaning his brush !
Nice and soothing to watch in the middle of the night .

I stop my ability to criticise when I watch Bob Ross and I go into meditative mode. It takes me away from worrying about climate change.

Alishka Wed 29-Jul-20 12:38:26

does he paint kittens?

Purplepixie Wed 29-Jul-20 11:51:48

Yes, I love to watch them. A tranquil time in a sea of horror!

Callistemon Wed 29-Jul-20 10:54:58

There are other artists on TV whose styles I preferred. I went on a course with one, can't remember his name but it was very enjoyable.

ninathenana Wed 29-Jul-20 10:35:41

I caught a few minutes of his programme recently.
Sorry to say I really didn't like the painting he was working on. Too dark for my taste.

Callistemon Wed 29-Jul-20 10:29:49

I used to watch him years ago when I first started painting; I think he inspired me because he made it look simple but my style developed completely differently.

MayBee70 Wed 29-Jul-20 10:20:10

I’m on several Bob Ross Facebook pages. People use his technique and interpret it in their own way. He was actually a very good artist but used the programmes to show people that anyone can paint. The programmes, for me, are more about him and his philosophy on life. A lover of wildlife and nature, he was way ahead of his time. I find his programmes more calming and relaxing than relaxation tapes.

Peardrop50 Wed 29-Jul-20 10:11:52

I have watched a few, seems he was a nice man with a soothing voice but personally I find his landscapes a bit twee. Actually a lot twee. Sorry, just not my taste.

yggdrasil Wed 29-Jul-20 10:04:15

Some years ago, when I was on a cruise, there was a class run by one of Bob Ross's people, (not himself but a franchise)
I still have two or three pictures I did myself. But they are all very similar, It is a good way to learn but not that original

henetha Wed 29-Jul-20 09:50:43

Yes, a bit samey maybe, but still lovely. It's very soothing to watch and listen to him.

Sparklefizz Wed 29-Jul-20 09:23:02

I watched a few of his programmes on BBC4 recently but everything he paints is the same.

Lexisgranny Wed 29-Jul-20 08:00:38

My husband is a fan, and has introduced me to them, having watched nearly all of the present series. I find his voice very soothing, particularly after a stressful day. I must admit I hadn’t heard of him, but our teenage granddaughter had, and told us some amusing stories of trying, with friends to copy his technique. It did encourage me to have a go , but the only paints I could find were in primary colours, left from when our grandchildren were small and not so adaptable to his style!

SpringyChicken Wed 29-Jul-20 07:51:35

He had talent but the paintings all looked the same to me and imaginary scenes. Very relaxing to watch though.

Oopsadaisy3 Wed 29-Jul-20 07:41:24

I watched him donkeys years ago when the children were small, and also ‘painting with Nancy Kominski’ they were on the same channel.
During Lockdown DD found several of his programmes and she and GD have spent hours painting along with him.

Although I have to say he paints mostly trees with a lake, or a lake with trees, or just trees, with moonlight or sometimes without!
