Good evening everyone! I have just crawled into bed after entertaining SiL all day and then a BBQ with DS and family, come to see Aunty. Her babies (sorry, dogs) are the centre of the universe and DS had to take his dog home as soon as he arrived as hers attacked her a couple of times. No attempt to stop it or shut the dog in another room. Then she had the nerve to criticise my attitude to MY grandchildren! ?
And smile ...
I hope all the bruises are starting to fade, you who have been tumbling. Let’s hope we have decent weather tomorrow and we can sit and recover in some gentle sunshine.
Sleep well everyone!

Grandmabatty Sat 22-Aug-20 08:50:25

Oh nannytopsy relatives can be such a trial. Because they are family, they seem to think they are exempt from manners. I have a couple of know everything family members myself. It sounds like a good time, nevertheless.

Izabella Sat 22-Aug-20 09:49:12

Good morning from a rather blustery Shire. The tall trees here are bending as if to acknowledge the breeze and the movement of their leaves sounds like ladies walking past in billowing silk gowns. Lovely. The one deceased tree we have had 7 magpies and two crows in it, all observing me closely. 'My' crow seems to have deserted me and the frogs are doing especially well. Needless to say the heron is visiting the pond daily. Someone told me all about midwife toads recently and sent me some information by post. Fascinating, and new to me.

Following a more than satisfactory phone consultation with the hospital, CH is now on the urgent waiting list (hot holding our breath) for ophthalmic surgery.

Today - planting out of leeks and hanging three of my paintings back from the framers. I also have a notion an Aspidistra is needed for a rather dark corner we have here.

TOYA and take care

Charleygirl5 Sat 22-Aug-20 13:04:54

Izabella that is excellent news.

Hopefully the wind will die down soon. At least the sky is blue and there is sunshine here at present. The wind has not wreaked too much havoc locally- one tree down and nowhere near here. All fencing is okay or at least I should add mine.

Grandmafrench Sat 22-Aug-20 13:30:13

Hello lovely Kitchener people. Hot and sunny and windy here in France.

Hope you had a good night's sleep, Nannytopsy ? Certainly you needed that by the sound of it! What gets into people? Whatever happened to "your house, your rules" I wonder ? I'd be so thrilled to accept hospitality which included our 2 dogs that I'd be beyond annoyed if one of them decided to show his gratitude by starting an argument with another family dog. Hope your DS doesn't live too far from you?

Know what you mean about heat, masks and eye tests, Susan. Mine was a couple of months ago and the fabulous and relaxed Eye Doctor I saw (plus his well-behaved under the desk dog) was so helpful and patient. But, I honestly couldn't wait to get out of there. Almost every 30 seconds during part of the examination he had to wipe the equipment next to my face because of the steam, and, as you say, the close proximity really doesn't help. He told me everyone under those conditions feels the same....but even so. I did get some swanky new glasses but got them from England in the end. Hope you are none the worse for your trial - and that you will shortly recover after a week of little children involvement. I adore small children and doing stuff with them, BUT don't they make one tired?

And what a gorgeous photo of that little 7month old......he looks like he means business. As Doodle says, "just revving up". Mmmm !!

Fabulous to hear from dear Izabella and equally dear Panache - both concerned for their partners. Good luck to both lovely chaps for upcoming tests/proposed eye surgery.

Hope you are feeling lots more together now after your fall, Soop and able to whisk about in those pretty little shoes. Maybe MacS has decided to have you wired for sound - just in case he has to go out or turn his back for a moment and.....down you go! Better safe than sorry. Very seriously, please be careful x

Is everything settling down for the increasingly injured members of Soop's TumbleTots now? (The nursery class for one of my children was called that, many years ago) Horrid to hear about falls and accidents. Hopefully you will be able to make a perfectly normal public appearance, Fennel, panda eyes or not, because masks and sunglasses do hide almost everything. Do hope that everyone is feeling better and that there are no ongoing complications. We need to be extra careful - my DH said that to me yesterday when we both agreed in the street that looking down whilst wearing a mask means that there is quite a blind spot where we put our feet. He had almost been felled by a small toddler running across his path. You honestly don't see hazards so easily when wearing a mask, e.g. dodgy paving slabs and edges of pavements.

I am about to repair to the garden with my book and a Magnum and enjoy some peace and quiet. No washing of groceries today, the shop was kindly conducted by His Master's Voice yesterday morning, so I was lucky there. However, I did wash all the wretched stuff before putting it away; and in the afternoon was reliably informed by my Doctor that there is "plenty plenty Covid" here in town. So, I shall keep up this boring exercise for a bit longer at least and we'll be wearing our masks EVERYWHERE from today. Tis the law and we don't want to pay a large fine for non-compliance.

Have a happy day if poss., everyone. Take it easy and stay safe.
Warm hugs from the Med'.

soop Sat 22-Aug-20 14:17:59

Grandmafrench Many thanks for your chronicle from the sunny Med. Hereaboots in Kintyre, the sun is shining and it is comfortably warm. We've had our daily stroll through the pretty village. We also managed several socially distanced conversations with pals along the way.

Izabella I enjoy your descriptive way with words. Poetic. I'm also pleased to hear that your husband's ophthalmic surgery may be carried out before very much longer.

Nannytopsy Some folk can be a pain in the nethers. How disrespectful and inconsiderate of the lady with the disruptive canine. Next time, ditch the smile. Suggest that said dog is confined in a well ventilated car. Fair dos.

Doodle Tyke!

soop Sat 22-Aug-20 17:32:27

The day is drifting slowly but surely into early evening. I keep thinking that it's Sunday. Yesterday I was convinced it was Saturday. hmm

I trust that you've enjoyed whatever day you think it is. I have the camera ready and waiting as I sense that a beautiful sunset may need my attention.

I shall leave you with last night's stunning sky.

Until we get together tomorrow...smile moon

soop Sat 22-Aug-20 17:34:00

Plus another...

Charleygirl5 Sat 22-Aug-20 21:45:43

soop - absolutely beautiful. I do think that the vast majority of your stunning photos should be in book form.

My downstairs TV has had no signal since the start of the very hot weather here and now this evening my bedroom TV has joined in sympathy so I am going to bed to read. What next?

Hellogirl1 Sat 22-Aug-20 23:38:46

Another beautifully descriptive post from you Izabella, also wonderful news for your CH.
Soop, I agree with others, your sunset pics really ought to be in a book.
Our family get together in my daughter`s garden tomorrow is looking doubtful, the weather isn`t looking promising. However, nil desperandum!
TOYA xx

Susan56 Sun 23-Aug-20 07:58:02

Stunning photos soop.I agree that you should make a book of your photos or a calendar would be lovely.

I am over the trauma of the eye test grandmafrench but this weeks repeat performance is on my mind.I have a podiatry appointment too but at least she will be over a metre away from my face!Am trying to get all my appointments in in case of a second lockdown.Have received a hospital appointment for 11th January, exactly 8 months after I should have been seen but hey ho?‍♀️

We went on a trip up the coast yesterday. We stopped at Gwrych castle which is apparently where I’m a Celebrity will be filmed this year.It was a stately home but now owned by a charitable trust,a listed ruin. The views were spectacular over towards Llandudno. The social distancing rules were very strict but as we were in Wales no one was wearing masks.

Lunch with my brother and sister in law today.Haven’t seen them since September.

Hope all who have had falls are feeling better and taking it easy.

TOYA

soop Sun 23-Aug-20 14:25:25

Charleyg The hot weather seems to disrupt our television picture on occasions. It starts with the pixels playing hide and seek and then the signal disappears. Then, I have to hunt the "prodder" and try to remember how to switch over to Sky. Buggerations galore!

Hellogirl1 The weather is brightening hereabouts. I hope that it does likewise for your family gathering. You deserve a treat.

Susan for a short time as a child I lived in Wales. I shall need to check on the spelling of the location.

soop Sun 23-Aug-20 14:29:16

It was in Aberaeron. We had a small cottage near the harbour. My mother used to boast that she was fluent in the Welsh language. I only recall her saying something like Yakidah ???hmm

Grandmafrench Sun 23-Aug-20 15:08:03

Iechyd da ! (Yakki da). Cheers! Your Mum was fluent in the Pub’ perhaps, soop.

A flying visit on a glorious afternoon. Hope everyone is well, but I’m concerned about dear Doodle. Hope she overcomes her family problem very soon. Have a really good Sunday, Kitcheners.
Hugs.

Baggs Sun 23-Aug-20 15:25:39

Made a cardamom cake today and of course I always think of the Soop Kitchen when I bake. It's decades since I made a cardamom cake and I didn't use my old recipe (because I can't find it). Cake still turned out good. Inside it is the faintest of faint greens and the aftertaste is mmmmm! Help yourselves.

Charleygirl5 Sun 23-Aug-20 16:03:58

soop I think my problem is that I do not have Sky, cannot switch over as all of my neighbours can do so I am left with no signal.

I took my supper upstairs last night to watch TV to discover that set had gone out in sympathy. I managed to fix that today by following the online instructions. Hopefully it will be working when I go upstairs later.

I went to Waitrose and have informed the staff that the "do it yourself" sanitiser is infecting/ re-infecting others. One should not have to open a bottle to get liquid out- it should be foot-operated or automatic when hand operated. I am sure I am well liked there.

It is a beautiful day here, the sun is shining and it is a sensible temperature.
TOYA

soop Sun 23-Aug-20 16:12:57

Charleyg You have made a very pertinent point re the hand sanitiser. Our wee village shop has the foot operated thingy.

Baggs it was the warm, rich, delicious aroma of your cardamon cake that tempted me back into the kitchen. I shall make a brew and imagine that I have a slice to sample. If only...

Grandmafrench there was I thinking it meant "good morning one and all."
What is the matter with Doodle? I must have missed something very recently.

Grandmabatty Sun 23-Aug-20 16:24:53

Hello kitcheners. I am having a pottering day I have food shopped, washed all the floors and cleaned the kitchen radiator, filed mail and glued an elephant ornament together that got a bit bent so I do not feel guilty that I had a peanut butter cookie and a chocolate cake both of which I made yesterday. I'm being lazy now. Bye all.

Charleygirl5 Sun 23-Aug-20 16:27:46

soop the next time I go there I must ferret out whoever buys the cat food and other items because he/she obviously does not possess a cat or cat litter tray liners would be top of the list.

I could easily be on the staff as an adviser. I do not want to be paid but a discount (large) when I buy anything would help. Sorted.

soop Sun 23-Aug-20 17:05:07

Charleyg grin grin grin

GrandmabattyYou certainly do deserve both treats. In fact, I'm slightly envious.

Our granddaughter's second baby is due real soon. You will be the first to know when the event takes place. She has no idea whether it will be a boy or girl. Mila, her wee daughter, says she'll be happy with a baby. smile

I am about to log off until tomorrow. Here is last night's sky for you. Very soon, the sunsets will become less dramatic. Until then, I shall continue to enjoy photographing them.

A peaceful Sunday evening is my wish for you all. smile moon

Susan56 Sun 23-Aug-20 17:44:12

soop,my husband and I love Aberaeron. It is still a picturesque village, hasn’t changed at all.It is our halfway point when we go to visit my husbands sister and family.I will think of you whenever we drive through there in future?

Grandmafrench Sun 23-Aug-20 17:55:45

Charley you are hilarious. Imagine you thinking all this up...for the benefit of all....and Waitrose failing spectacularly to think of the most obvious things! Never mind, in another life we shall all crowd fund so that you can buy a proper supermarket which you will be able to run like clockwork. Young Tara (whenever she turns up) could be in charge of Customer Care - or maybe on the Deli. It’ll be a hoot.

Do hope that your tv works tonight. Life can be so complicated!

What a fabulous scented cake, Baggs - and GrandmaBatty you’re turning into a Whirling Dervish......feet up now and enjoy more cake.

Little Mila will settle for a baby? Bless her, she’s easily pleased. x
soop Doodle said on a thread last night that she can’t post for a while - some sort of family crisis, apparently. Fingers crossed it can be sorted. I hate to think of Kitcheners being stressed - as if normal life doesn’t send enough buggerations ?

See you soon, all. Keep safe.

annodomini Sun 23-Aug-20 18:05:11

Charley, our Waitrose has a foot-operated sanitiser. Aldi provides pumped containers outside the door and inside as well as sanitiser for the trolley handles.
I have had two weeks away, staying a week each with DSs' families. The weather in the first week was perfect and I was able to take advantage of all the different sun-spots in their garden. Second week not so good, but the company was. DGS1 had first rate GCSE assessments and we celebrated with coffee (or tea) and cake in a lovely tearoom. DGD1 took me to look at what she and her partner are doing to their house - gutted and in the process of reconstruction - and then to the pub beer garden. DS1 and his partner brought me home on Friday, left on Saturday and I am so missing them sad. They say that if (when) there is another lock-down they will kidnap me! Shouldn't that be 'gran-nap'?
Bags, that cake looks irresistible. I have to do something about my waistline (what waistline?) but...well...just a sliver then!

Charleygirl5 Sun 23-Aug-20 18:37:13

grandmaFrench and anno re the sanitiser I am reverting back to my professional life 18 years ago! I will not let it go because of the seriousness of Covid.

Grandmabatty Sun 23-Aug-20 18:53:44

grandmafrench feet are well and truly up, glass of white wine is in my hand and I'm ready for country file on tv. I watch it mainly for the weather.
