Hi all,
I lazed around the house until around 3 o'clock when I jumped up and rushed to get ready to visit some relatives (I had decided I wasn't going because of my chronic pain and then had a last minute change of heart).

I had a lovely day, I sat in the paddling pool as it was quite warm, had a barbecue, and a silly quiz where if you got the answer wrong, you got soaked, I went with a full face of makeup and came back with none on from the pool! I also got some lovely photos for my album and made some fun videos with one relative!

It was a lovely day and I feel very glad I changed my mind.

What did you do? X

Cup of tea in bed first thing and a bit of housework then round the corner to daughters for brunch and coffee and we do the Saturday quiz in the Telegraph.

Spent the afternoon packing as we are going on holiday to France tomorrow with some family friends , so excited even if we do have to wear a mask on the ferry! We are self catering , the house has a big garden and is near the beach , we know it well been lots of time’s before . Can’t wait!

Decided we needed new carpet at breakfast time,Went to carpet shop ,thought wooden floor might be better .Bought wood, came home emptied sitting room, pulled up carpet and underlay and laid wooden floor.Put back SOME of the furniture and odered some new stuff online to replace what we've left out ,ordered new curtain pole and curtains ..will paint the walls tomorrow .
Took us five and half hours from decision to end result. Will repaint walls tomorrow.Spent the rest of today trying to calm my cats who were freaked out at the new flooring

Cleaned the kitchen. DD lives with me and makes a hell of a mess. I can't always face it, but today I snapped and cleaned and bleached everything, despite her disapproval of the bleach because of the cats.

Took grandson outside to play in his car and on his trike. Let him have a wee over the drain (which he loves doing!). Watched the pigeons. Watched our female cat dangle precariously on a 1st floor ledge that she last week leapt off.

Then had a lovely, staying in afternoon with GS. Played play dough, which sounds fun, but isn't because he gets aggressive with it. Then watched a National Geographic documentary on owls, because he loves them.

Finally, at 5.30pm, I managed to get him to eat some dinner. He'd had no breakfast and refused lunch, so I was relieved that he ate something late in the day (so he has a full tummy for bed!). Then gave him a bath.

All very mundane everyday stuff, but as I'm back out of the country for work in a couple of weeks, I'm savouring my time with him.

Luckygirl you really touched me describing how you spent today. I’m sorry you’re bereaved, and sorry you’re in pain from the walk with sticks, but the company and help from your beloved family is heartwarming. ?

That sounds like a lovely day, Luckygirl, one to remember.

I had a lovely day today. In the morning all 3 of my DDs and two SILs + 4 GC came over to help me get the garage and shed cleared for the move. They all worked so very hard for me and the children played happily outside. The DDs also worked very hard, sorting CDs and DVDs (of which there were lots!) and going through their Dad's clothes, taking what they wanted.

We all lunched on the patio, then walk up a beautiful local hill with 360 degree views over the Black Mountains and farther afield. I made it to the top with two sticks! - but I am paying for it now. Definitely worth it though.

Then down into the village where we all went to OH's grave, which is in the most idyllic country churchyard you can possibly imagine - peaceful and beautiful with the swifts wheeling about over our heads. Oldest DD had not been there since the funeral in February because of lockdown and she was feeling wary about it. But she took some sweet peas from my garden and they sat on the grass by his grave in the sunshine - all the girls together with their Dad - and it was lovely to see. I was parked on a nearby gravestone! He would have been delighted that he was the impetus for the girls to spend such a special time together in such a special place.

Then to the village pub for a lovely meal outside; after I had walked my DD1 to see the house I am buying there.

A lovely day to remember - and a special family to be treasured for all their kindness.

Callistemon Sat 01-Aug-20 21:51:17

grin

Oh yes!

lemongrove Sat 01-Aug-20 21:50:30

You can write a journal sitting in a paddling pool though, if you are really careful about not splashing!

Lisagran Sat 01-Aug-20 21:49:39

You know, I sometimes wonder if I’m on a parallel universe on here........

Lisagran Sat 01-Aug-20 21:48:18

Callistemon Sat 01-Aug-20 21:45:37
