Sung with toddler on your lap and tapping his/her feet together

Walking up and down one day
I peeped through the window over the way
Pulling his stitches through and through
There sat a cobbler mending a shoe
Tippy tap tap
Tippy tap too
That's the way to mend a shoe

My Mum sang it to my sons when they were little

We update the Wheels on the Bus with new verses like 'the teenagers on the bus, they text, text text' or the 'lions bus go roar, roar, roar' depending on the circumstances and good for their imagination and general knowledge!

Oh what’ll we do with the herring’s head?
Oh what’ll we do with the herrings head?
We’ll make it into loaves of bread, herring’s head, loaves of bread
And all manner of things
How are ye the day
How are ye the day
How are ye the day
Me hinny-o

Carry on with herrings eyes (puddings and pies)
Herrings fins (needles and pins)
Herrings belly (lass called Nellie)
Herrings tail ( barrel of ale)

Adding each new bit of the herring as you go.grin

I have one more little DGD who I expect will enjoy it as much as the others did, when she’s a bit bigger smile

My DGs liked
There was an old man called Michael Finnegan
He grew whiskers on his chin Egan
The wind came out and blew them in again
Poor old Michael Finnegan,
Begin again

Or :
Curly Wigs the barber
Went to shave his father
The razor slipped
He cut his lip
Curly Wigs the barber

I think both liked the more macabre songs !!!!

I can remember singing Morningtown Ride to our DD. Also Lazy Bones sleeping in the sun
How you gonna get your day's work done
Never get your day's work done
Sleeping in the noon day sun. smile

My DGC's current favourites are "Any Old Iron" and "Your Baby Has Gone Down the Plughole" They think Granny knows some very silly songs! (I suspect these aren't the sort the OP expected!)

Oh how many times have I wanted the wheels to fall off that bus grin.

I remember that one! It was good fun.

The one that seemed to stay in my head for ages was

The wheels on the bus go round and round,
Round and round, round and round
All day long!

I have just remembered a great children's song that I used to sing with my children:

(Children lie on floor) Sleeping little bunnies, sleeping till it's noon,
Shall we try and wake them with a merry tune?
Oh so still
Are they ill?
Wake up little bunnies! (children leap up!)
Hop little bunnies, hop, hop, hop!
Hop little bunnies, hop, hop, hop!

They would tolerate any number of repetitions!

Did you have favourite songs that the children enjoyed?
