Dogs being walked in this heat

It is horrible to think of their pads burning in the heat TrendyNannie. We have a lovely river dog walk close by, but to get to it we have to walk along a road and over a bridge. We won't be going until this evening.
We did have a dog, when we lived abroad in sunny climes, who used to walk around the patio half the day. Maybe her paws got hardened?

DS and DIL took their dog to the woods and said it was quite cool there. Yes, pavements can get scorching hot and tarmac can melt.
You can buy cool mats for dogs which help them in this hot weather.

Well said TrendyNannie6 ! I wish the RSPCA would use some of their advertising budget to warn people about this. Dogs should be walked very early in the morning or as the sun goes down at night.
If the owner does not have a garden then drive them to a grassy place and pick up after them. I always walked our dog at six in the morning and eight at night. She used the garden in between.

I have seen somewhere, a video of a dangerously overheated dog, which a vet made to show owners how much dogs feet can absorb from hot pavements.

We have been looking after DD2s dog, when she wants to go out I’m afraid there is no stopping her, she refuses to use the garden To do her UKW, and there is a piece of Road and a short pathway to the park or the fields so we run, or I try to get her to walk on the verges.
Yesterday we went out at 2 pm but she had been crying to go for an hour or so, when we got home I was Almost exploding with the heat and she was as fresh as a daisy. Her last walk was at 10.30 last night with a torch and it was still too hot.
So don’t always blame the owners, when a dogs gotta go, it’s gotta go.

What about the idiots who leave their dogs inside the car ?

Some idiots also leave their small children in hot cars.

You can’t help stupid, but you can lock them up , yaaay.

Don’t forget if you see a dog in a hot car on days like this you are well within your rights to smash the car window then call the police, then quickly call the RSPCA.

What about the idiots riding bikes and dragging the poor dog behind them. I approached a young man doing this. His reply was the dog needed exercise and nothing to do with me?

My young dog has found a quiet, shady spot in the kitchen and rarely moved from it. I took her over the road to the field at 7.30 am for a half hour walk. We drove to the shady parkland five minutes away at 7 pm so she could have an off lead sniff around.
I saw people walking dogs on the hot pavements at mid day. Our dogs aren't use to these kind of temperatures (neither are we)

I have plenty of shade in my garden, and the doors to the house are always open, but my daft dog lies in the full sun.
My husband walks him at 7am and bedtime.

Yes early mornings and late evenings. Plus the odd shower if he looks uncomfortable. Tepid water and then leaving him to dry really does the trick.

Hopefully we are coming to an end of it now, although it is still unpleasantly hot here.
