Beauregard I've noticed that too. I say "a week on" but others say "next" it makes you look silly trying to clarify when in fact it's their communication is questionable. I've found this is particularly the case with younger working people.

I thought this was going to be a message from our 2 camping friends smile

I always get an actual date out of people eg the 4th or 26th instead of 'next Tues' grin (I have to admit it is often a relief when plans don't work out and it's not yr doing tho...)

Why do (some of) the younger generation say 'next Thursday' when they actually mean the one after, i.e. 'a week on Thursday '? I get this a lot from my children. Next Thursday is the one coming up, not the one after. Where does their thinking come from on this? Confused!

I managed to change my Tesco delivery to 9pm last night as I didn't have much notice for DGD's visit (so I thought) All well and good apart from the fact the driver reversed over our recycling wheelie bin which was brand spanking new because three weeks ago a tractor driver hit the last one by taking the bend in our road too fast!!

We've lived here since 1997 without mishap and now everyone keeps bashing into things. hmm

The Tesco driver managed to get the bin stuck under the van. shock DH had to go out and jack it up for him so they could get it out. He was full of apologies and said Tesco would phone and they would sort out a replacement with the council. Good! I haven't got the nerve to phone up again blush

The good thing is you won’t be rushed off your feet next Thursday. The bedding is done, the food can just be taken out of the freezer, so you will be more relaxed and enjoy their visit even more. Have a lovely time.

Merlotgran - by coincidence DGD1 has just sent me a link to the song “Don’t worry, be happy”!

When DGS messaged on Tuesday and said they'd be visiting cousins (other family) next weekend so could they stay with us Thursday night? I took 'next' to mean the one coming up as we'd just had a weekend. Thank goodness I messaged him this morning to get an ETA. I thought the mistake was all mine until I went back through his messages.

Our large caravan is so useful for Lockdown visits that now things are easing there's been a bit of a deluge. It's lovely to know they're all so keen to come and see us but to be honest I'm still a bit whacked from three days of visitors last weekend.

Piri piri chicken anyone? There's plenty. grin

Oh yes!
I’d go even further (close family excepted) and say I often feel that sort of relief when something is cancelled altogether.
My sister in law was due to come for three days recently in the very hot weather but cancelled the night before on account of the drive - so I could still sleep with all the doors and windows open! And of course enjoy the clean and tidy and spruced up house!

I love it when that happens to me when I’m playing “Beat the Clock”! Enjoy your unexpected day of relaxation! smile

When you're rushing round against the clock because you're expecting visitors and they phone and say they're going to be late???

Well, I've been up since the crack of whatnots getting ready for DGS's visit with his girlfriend. His mum and dad were here last weekend so I needed to get the bedding in the washing machine because they stay in our caravan and I like to leave three days before going in there and getting ready for the next lot of visitors.

I messaged DGS half an hour ago and got, 'Sorry, Granny. There's been some confusion. We're coming NEXT Thursday. Is that OK?'

OK?? I've poured myself another large cuppa and I'm sitting with my feet up, watching TV and listening to the gentle thrum of the washing machine. The marinated chicken can go in the freezer.

Don't Worry, Be Happy! grin
