"The 265 metre-long train is “filled with literature, stories and colourful posters and will feature Pride related information and fun facts during the onboard announcements”."

The rainbow painted train is now a permanent part of the fleet, and Avanti West invites the public to suggest a name for it.

Rainbow?
Makes me view George and Zippy in a new light!!

Galaxy Thu 27-Aug-20 16:54:04

Surelt they will have asked their current staff to work on the train, I dont think they will have gone on a gay recruitment drive, although to be fair that sounds more interesting than any recruitment I have done.

Callistemon Thu 27-Aug-20 16:40:12

Oh, perhaps another name as that one has been taken, if not for a train.

I'm not sure if they are breaking the law re employing only LGBT staff either?

trisher Thu 27-Aug-20 16:35:51

I was wondering how different the responses on here would be had the rainbow train been said to be supporting the NHS? Is it the decorated train or the reason for the decoration that upsets some?

greengreengrass Thu 27-Aug-20 16:18:21

oh yes the rainbow express is nice too

Callistemon Thu 27-Aug-20 16:05:17

Gordon, Edward - and how could you forget Emily, Illte!

Illte Thu 27-Aug-20 15:55:12

Names of trains - fascinating!
Have a look next time you catch yours, Esspee, perhaps it does have a name

Callistemon Thu 27-Aug-20 15:43:41

Yes, trains have had and still have names

The Cornishman
Eastern Belle
Devon Belle
Enterprise
Flying Dutchman
Master Cutler
Golden Hind

What's wrong with The Rainbow Express?

Illte Thu 27-Aug-20 15:41:18

What am I being suspected for? I don't mind but I'd like to know. It might make me more interesting! ?

Callistemon Thu 27-Aug-20 15:38:03

Trains are never fun if late or don't arrive at all.

? Absolutely!

Lioness68 Thu 27-Aug-20 15:34:29

I agree with Harrigran.

EllanVannin Thu 27-Aug-20 15:21:38

Indirectly I suspect I11te.

Smileless2012 Thu 27-Aug-20 15:16:08

Sparkling re your post @ 10.42 I assumed that was what you meant when you said if was offensive. We have gay friends who find that type of public display offensive too.

Esspee Thu 27-Aug-20 15:03:12

janeainsworth. I was referring to your average everyday train. The kind I take into town. ?
Summerlove. It may be the company I keep but nobody I know is interested in anyone else’s sexuality, and that is the way it should be in my opinion. I am aware that a small minority of people have issues with homosexuality. They have no right to persecute those who are different from the norm.
I still can’t understand how painting a train and giving it a name is supposed to help the situation.

Illte Thu 27-Aug-20 14:32:18

Did the Government pay for the coach decorations?

EllanVannin Thu 27-Aug-20 14:28:58

What does the government see as a priority ??

EllanVannin Thu 27-Aug-20 14:27:39

One thing laughs at another, as usual. Those who are homeless and sleep in doorways are now going to be fined !
How much was spent on decorating those coaches I wonder ?

Illte Thu 27-Aug-20 14:00:31

I think Pride was chosen as an emblem as the opposite to shame, which is what many gay people were made to feel.

It's just an advertising stunt. Nothing more.

lemongrove Thu 27-Aug-20 13:31:22

PrideyMcTrainface?

I have never understood where the ‘pride’ thing comes in, it’s nothing to be proud of as neither is heterosexuality.
Or wearing glitter / sequins/ make up ( and that’s just the men).I imagine many men and women who are gay simply cringe when they see how some on the marches are dressed.

JenniferEccles Thu 27-Aug-20 12:54:28

I think ‘attention seeking’ sums it up in many instances EV

janeainsworth Thu 27-Aug-20 12:46:51

Esspee I’ve yet to notice other trains have names

The Orient Express
The Flying Scotsman
The Fenman
The Ghan
The Silver Meteor

Moonlight113 Thu 27-Aug-20 12:39:55

I think "they" are doing all they can to make being gay acceptable. Normalise it. Thus allowing gay people to live their lives with the same peace and security others have. It's got to good imo.

Not sure the train could be called The Love Train. Sort of gives it a licence for inappropriate behaviour! ?

EllanVannin Thu 27-Aug-20 12:10:12

Why do people have to make it so blatantly obvious that they're gay ? What is their aim, apart from attention-seeking ?
I know gay people but you'd never guess that they were, both male and female. They don't make a song and dance about it.

Summerlove Thu 27-Aug-20 12:01:09

Esspee

I treat all trains equally. Can’t see any reason to give this one a name as I’ve yet to notice other trains have names.

(Why can’t people just keep their sexual preferences to themselves? Nobody is interested.)

Because people are interested.

Otherwise gay men wouldn’t be assaulted simply for being gay!

What a silly comment
