Erections on television ?

On channel 4 tonight there will be a “documentary” with pictures of erect penises(?). Will anyone be watching? Is this the start of full on porn on terrestrial television? I might watch just to remind myself of what I’ve been missing! What do you all think? If I said my remark was tongue in cheek it might be misconstrued ???

Galaxy, Not talking about nudity and being ashamed of nakedness and only seeing the body used in porn has hardly prevented rapists or sex offenders today. It is more about power and little about sexual enjoyment. Our children being brought up only viewing porn and all the secrecy and shame around it is probably a more exciting and damaging. We need to see the naked body as a no big deal and more education on understanding puberty, changing bodies than being offensive. Anyway there is the option of the off button for those who find it shocking.

Erect penises are a frequent part of human life, and it is silly to be afraid of them.

They should not be something to fear, but unfortunately they can be, particularly when used as a weapon of war.

I agree completely Elaine.

Alexa SilentGames agree with your posts and good to see a different point of view, thank you

proud not roud - sorry

Sometimes some folk seem to have things pretty mixed up in this country. ( I'm not saying anyone in this thread is mixed up in this waywink!) Some folk get worked up about breastfeeding in public, some get worked up about seeing naked bodies in a documentary/health programme, some find it very hard to have any sort of conversation about sex.
More honest discussion ( I didn't watch the programme so don't know exactly how it would be categorised) can only be a good thing to bring our kids up to have a healthy balanced view of sex and relationships. I remember being very roud of my son's sensible attitude at the age of about 11 when he informed me in a matter of fact way that he had explained what periods were to a younger female schoolmate after someone had told a joke that referred to them and she said she didn't understand it. ( Hope he got it mainly correct!)
On the other hand, porn is very readily available in various formats. I don't think the porn industry needs a channel 4 programme to help promote it - it's managing just fine! Sadly, many prominent people, including politicians, have been found to indulge in watching or making the most extreme forms, including the abuse of children. What happens to them - they get "found out" after they're dead and files are "lost" or subject to a D notice to hide them.
Sorry to get so serious, but I do think we need to do far more to catch those who use and abuse others in the porn/sex industry - one form of modern day slavery.

Not really Alexa 90 % of sexual crimes arent committed by people with nightdresses.

Alexa Wed 02-Sep-20 11:46:24

Galaxy, in many circs it is very reasonable to be afraid of feet, food, or nightdresses.

Galaxy Wed 02-Sep-20 11:23:58

Well that depends doesnt it Alexa. In many circumstances it's very reasonable to be scared of them

Alexa Wed 02-Sep-20 11:14:20

I saw approximately the second half of the programme. It was good for teaching empathy towards men.

I saw no erect penis, and if I had I would not have been disturbed . Erect penises are a frequent part of human life, and it is silly to be afraid of them.

Sadly, there is an intention by those in power to introduce porn to deliberately cause harm and degrade the lives of young people in particular.

There are people who have this aim and who seek out any opportunity to promote it.
They may not be the ones in power, but they influence those in power to be 'progressive' and 'inclusive'.

Marydoll Wed 02-Sep-20 11:09:19

Marpau, I didn't say Bluebellwould couldn't post. I said I didn't understand the need for it, that was MY opinion.
I wasn't stopping anyone else posting theirs.
Bluebellwould admitted she was being mischievious.

I'm at a loss as why you needed to pull me up for my post. ?

Yes I watched it as I was curious to see if it was going to be full of bravado men parading their very precious wares to the world promoting their big egos.
To be honest I watched with great interest as to what these men talked about which was the Male experiences regarding their penis and sexual identity. It was honest, open and enlightening. At the end of the day we are just bodies with bits and we have been drip fed for years that the women’s body can be exposed for entertainment and in a kind of way, dominated. Women’s bodies have always been used to entice men to watch tv, film etc and the media encourages us to compare and if we don’t fit that mould then we are made to feel inferior. Mens bodies were always kept hidden and they were judged without having to use their nudity to get where they wanted to be.
I thought the participants were mostly fit and in good shape so maybe that helped them strip off. There was a programme similar regarding vaginas and I could not relate to most of the participants as it again seem to project women as a bit like exhibitionists. I think we need to get over nakedness and don’t just leave nudity to the porn industries that make millions out of this so called no go area and leaving people thinking it’s dirty and unhealthy. In my opinion I enjoyed watching the honesty and insight of some men’s feelings and it’s just a penis but it gave me my children Thankyou!

Not for me. I watched Mamma Mia, then the news followed after which I switched off and went to bed. Can't be doing with " non " programmes like that.

Elegran Wed 02-Sep-20 10:33:53

No, Athenia I really do not believe that ANYONE is aiming deliberately to " . . introduce porn to deliberately cause harm and degrade the lives of young people in particular"

There are people in the media whose aim is to make as much money as possible in the shortest possible time, but they do that merely by being unselective in the stuff they choose to show or publish. They don't care about the effect, as long as people buy, buy, buy.

They don't need to conspire to give the young, in particular, an interest in comparing their private parts with those of others - it has been a worry for young men for centuries. Cavemen probably eyed their companions anxiously in case they were deficient.

marpau Wed 02-Sep-20 10:26:19

Marydoll of course you are just as we are entitled to have threads on any subject ?

Callistemon Wed 02-Sep-20 10:24:44

I do not watch TV, because when one is watching the body goes into a trance-like state

I hope not, Athenia, because otherwise my crocheting would be haywire.
I must admit, though, that I did seven treble crochets where I should have done three last night when James Herriot had his arm up a cow's vagina. Luckily the calf was born safely and I noticed my mistake.

Callistemon Wed 02-Sep-20 10:20:48

Oooh, Marydoll, slapped wrist!

Actually I thought your contributions were funny.
? (that's a thumb, btw)

Athenia Wed 02-Sep-20 10:06:38

Sadly, there is an intention by those in power to introduce porn to deliberately cause harm and degrade the lives of young people in particular.
This is one more aspect of that.
I do not watch TV, because when one is watching the body goes into a trance-like state, and it is possible to be affected unconsciously by ideas and concepts that would normally not get past our conscious mind.

Marydoll Wed 02-Sep-20 10:05:01

I think I'm entitled to comment, just as you are, Marpau! ?

marpau Wed 02-Sep-20 09:58:50

Marydoll we have threads so those that wish to may comment and those with no interest can scroll on by.

I once dozed off and woke up to 'Naked Attraction', wondering what on Earth it was. I did keep watching anyway, equally horrified and fascinated.

The other day, having left the TV on, I walked in to find a programme on about 'dogging' in the woods!

I think I'll give the 'documentary' a miss.

honeyrose Wed 02-Sep-20 09:19:10

I watched about 10/15 minutes of it, but then put an episode of Downton Abbey on instead - far more entertaining. I thought that some of the men on it were purely exhibitionists. Lots of talk of empowerment etc - seems to be a buzz word these days. Soon tired of it. Some men extremely well endowed I have to say, but it was like watching Naked Attraction for me - I couldn’t see the point of it. Sometimes i’m drawn to watching a programme out of fascination, but I soon decide it’s not for me and i’d rather watch something more absorbing.

Lovetopaint037 Tue 01-Sep-20 19:44:36

How desperate do Channel 4 need to be to gain audiences?

biba70 Tue 01-Sep-20 15:44:53

so, did anyone watch (I didn't) - report back please, thanks.
