Good Morning Everyone,
Its dull grey start here in Brackley this morning , but it remains dry.
Usual Sunday for me small shop later , and then have lunch before settling down to watch the Tour De France stage .
Yesterday, the dealer was at the flea market who I have dealt with but still had not got what I was after .
Take Care ,
Mick

Heatwave you say Grammaretto ?? Someone must be having a chuckle watching me carefully pack summer stuff away! ? I will leave a few bits out in the event that forecasters have got it right. ?

grandMattie Sun 06-Sept-20 12:26:42

Thank you for your compliments. It is only the third one I have made - baby steps still. I took a course at the now defunct WI Denman College in November at the great old age of 71. It really isn’t that hard especially if, like me, you use the sewing machine. I couldn’t do with all that fiddly hand sewing on paper templates, etc. Marydoll, the first two were made mostly with off-cuts of the 2 DGD little frocks over the last 10 years.
Hope for you all... ?

Grandmabatty Sun 06-Sept-20 12:00:49

EllanVannin I saw that particular film too. It wouldn't be made nowadays as a child was shot in it and children aren't allowed to be killed or hurt on screen. It was a good example of propaganda though.

Morning everyone! Warm and sunny here in the Midlands. Sheets in the wash ready for the line!

Oh gosh grand Mattie, the quilt looks stunning! Any tips for the actual quilting bit? I can't do anything bigger than a colt quilt really as I can't get the fabric to go through the gap on my machine to turn it around. So frustrating. xx

Oldbutstilluseful Sun 06-Sept-20 11:39:14

What a good idea Jaxjacky. But I like the idea of having a husband who irons even better! Perhaps I can borrow one ?

Jaxjacky Sun 06-Sept-20 11:35:45

Oldbutstilluseful I call ironing as ‘dry washing’ it’s less threatening...(even though my husband does ours)

Oldbutstilluseful Sun 06-Sept-20 11:20:18

A late good morning from a sunny/breezy/cloudy N Hants. I’m not good at posting but love the daily doings and gentleness of this lovely thread and read it every day. So like the rest of you I’m really hoping that Gillybob is ok, along with the missing others.

Today I hope to finish planting up some winter pansies and perhaps ‘look’ at the ironing. It’s all a bit of a struggle at the moment, but nothing compared to the trials so many of you cope with daily.

Another shout out for the quilt, such a joy to produce a beautiful piece of sewing.

Grandmafrench Sun 06-Sept-20 10:54:24

Good Morning everyone from my little bit of paradise on the Med’ where it’ll be 30 degrees today. In the meantime coffee in the garden then some more pot watering ?.

I can’t believe that Autumn is truly set in for the UK yet. My guess is you’ll have some wonderful golden days to get out and enjoy...so be prepared to drop everything ‘housekeeping’ and get outside and take advantage of it all. Be in cold weather denial for as long as you can. ?

Blown away by your quilt, (and your talent) *GrandMattie, so pretty. Do hope you’re pleased.....so many people - and on here -are so talented and accomplished but never think those words apply to them.

Hope your eye improves quickly Gelisajams. My eye Doctor here told me recently boiled water and salt, yes, but use a cotton pad to bathe as hot as you can tolerate. That made a difference for me.

Was surprised when you said you don’t see many dragonflies, Urms. You would think sometimes in this garden, you were in a re-make of the Dambusters! There are so many different kinds and sizes. I can’t say I’m that keen because I did get one repeatedly fly at me when we had a big area of water in Normandy. Then yesterday, we were having a quiet reading session in the garden and my DH said “do you want to rescue that insect?” ? I immediately picked up the pool net but was shocked to see a very big - and furry - dragonfly ? crashing about on the terrace instead. It was being attacked by a wasp. I do provide a distant bowl of fresh water for wasps because it keeps them away from the pool...but there is some behaviour I won’t tolerate, nature or not. ? So I trod on the wasp and lifted the other poor creature to safety in the hedge. Hopefully that will be my only close encounter with an insect that big for the foreseeable ?

How lovely you’ve got more family time to look forward to in magical Portugal dustyangel. Stay well.

Warm wishes for a good Sunday to all. Mary stay calm.....
To everyone sad or struggling - keep on looking for the light.x

Hugs from ??

Morning all from a fairly bright South Notts. I've hung the washing out on the line so hope it stays dry. Will nip out for the big shop shortly.

Lovely quilt grandMattie it's really taking shape. Hope all is well with Gillybob as we've all missed her news.

Please, Marydoll remind DH of that grand mantra if all else fails, read the instructions and be ready with a soothing cup of tea - or something stronger!

Hope all is well with everyone especially those with worries or illness.

Taichinan Sun 06-Sept-20 10:42:39

My heart goes out to your friend Urmston. What a terrible time she has had, with lockdown kicking in just after she lost her DH. How lovely that she has a warm circle of friends to meet up with though, and she'll really appreciate that. ??

mrswoo Sun 06-Sept-20 10:41:56

Good morning from Newcastle where it's cold, wet and generally miserable. Yesterday was very bright and windy - a brilliant washing/drying day. Today is the downside - an enormous pile of ironing to plough through.
What lovely patchwork grandmattie. I am so impressed as I can barely thread a needle!
urmston thank you for your book recommendations, I think we have quite similar taste in books. I shall check out the Margaret Attwood and chances are it will end up on my kindle too. I feel for your neighbour arriving for the first time since being widowed. Brave of her but sad too
I really hope the gillybobs are ok.
Have a good day everyone.

EllanVannin Sun 06-Sept-20 10:35:30

Good Morning All x.
Cloudy with a smattering of sun now and again. Rain during the night as it's quite damp under foot as well. Not that it matters as I won't be going anywhere.

A lot of apple crumbles on the go with the surplus of apples on trees or on the ground. I have a few pound of them from a neighbour's D's tree so crumble for me too today and some stewed to go with the chicken today and also to freeze.

That lovely cover reminds me of the huge rag-rugs that an aunty used to make. It's a real art, beautiful.

I enjoyed watching a very old film yesterday " Went the Day Well ", remember it ? Thora Hird was a slip of a young woman in it grin It was a bit of a light-hearted diversion from the norm, although serious too.

A quiet day as usual for Sunday with just a read of the paper and prepare eats later.

I notice we haven't heard from Gilly as yet. Hope she's just having a break and that all's well in the household.x

Thinking of our other missing grans and hoping they're okay.x
Stay safe and well everyone and enjoy your day. xx

Grammaretto Sun 06-Sept-20 10:04:15

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Cold here but we are promised a heat wave next week. Take note Kalu before you put your summer dresses in the attic!

I hope the Gillybobs are alright. Thinking of them and others who have vanished lately Dragonfly, Bluesapphire sending warm wishes.

Not a lot planned here. "Staying in" is a full time job. I am grateful to GN for keeping my spirits up keeping me sane
I love to read about your exploits.

MellowYellow Sun 06-Sept-20 10:00:57

Good morning from bright, breezy south Cornwall, later than usual, been watching catchup Gardeners World including a film of foxes jumping through someone's box hedge, fascinating! No small children with me today so will take off on a bus somewhere, maybe Penzance today or St Ives, my favourite, but that will still be too crowded I suspect. Have the best day possible everyone.

Urmstongran Sun 06-Sept-20 09:50:24

I ❤️ your patchwork grandMattie! How clever are you? You must have great patience for such intricate work plus all the mathematics of planning it!

Just to say (for those who may be interested) due to the antics on Friday night of Extinction Rebellion, the Telegraph is available on line today without a paywall - in response to some paper editions not being printed.

dustyangel Sun 06-Sept-20 09:47:47

Good Morning all from sunny Portugal. I don’t often look in but felt the need to this morning and it’s good to “see” you all and that we are all seem to be coping as well as we can in these unusual times. We have had our son in law staying for the last couple of months and as I I said to our visiting physio who asked how that was going “Everyone should have one!” He has been such a godsend to us both. DD1 is coming to join him for their pre-booked holiday before they return to England. Her to working from home again and him to sign on, sad. They both want to retire out here and it will have given them a taste of what living here is like all be it under very unusual conditions.
Happy Sunday everyone. I shall now go a see if Gillybob has looked in. sunshine

Georgesgran Sun 06-Sept-20 09:45:55

Good morning from a dark, drab Durham, where it’s now raining. I knew I should’ve got my washing off the line last night!
What diverse weather we have on this little Island?
No plans today, DD2 popping in later, but expect a short visit with a big bag of dirty laundry (she’s having an extension built, so no access to her machine).

Hope everyone has the best day today and we hear from Gillybob soon. X

Gelisajams Sun 06-Sept-20 09:29:06

Good morning from a bright coolMorecambe Bay.
Lazy day in store today. Zoom church and a click and collect will be the most exciting things happening today. I’ve got a sore eye so am feeling a bit sorry for myself. It kept waking me up during the night. I spoke to the pharmacist yesterday who said just to bathe it with boiled water and it could be a couple of weeks before it goes down. I’m sure many on here have more serious problems. Hopefully not Gilly.
Take care and stay safe everyone ?

brook2704 Sun 06-Sept-20 09:27:28

Good morning everyone from Inverness - a bit of a later start for me this morning as I slept really well last night after another long walk yesterday! But I’m here now, munching on toast and marmalade and catching up on everyone’s plans and news ?
Really hope alls ok with gillybob and she’s back on here very soon?
A sad time for your neighbour urms but brave of her to fly out on her own and go back to the apartment. I hope she is ok
Hoping everyone finds something to enjoy today and take care whatever the day brings ?

CherryCezzy Sun 06-Sept-20 09:22:28

Good morning everyone. A hazy morning here in the Gower.

Plan was to go off for a walk around the coast this morning but my WP has other ideas I think, he's still asleep ?. Still, at least I know we'll have a dinner we'll enjoy later, lovely Welsh lamb chops and poached pears for dessert.

Beautiful patchwork grandMattie. I did attend some classes of couple of years back but the furthest I got was half a glasses case ?. I certainly don't have your skill and dedication.

Marydoll, as somebody else has said earlier, best keep ? with the flat pack construction going on. Good lunch with your Swedish chop.

Shame the flea market stall didn't have what you are looking for Mick, ? for next time.

I really hope gillybob is alright and it's nothing more than a connection blip.

Bellasnana, BlueSapphire and dragonfly you are still in my thoughts. Sending you my best wishes.

Enjoy this Sunday whatever you are doing and stay safe everyone ❤️

grannysyb Sun 06-Sept-20 09:17:12

After a grey start it's sunny here. Off to allotment this morning and sewing this afternoon and then roast chicken tonight. Hoping Gillybob is OK. Have a good day everyone.

Greyduster Sun 06-Sept-20 08:58:11

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. The sun is shining in South Yorkshire at the moment. Not sure what the day will bring today. We were in all afternoon yesterday making elderberry cordial (what a performance!), so I think we need some fresh air at some point. BLT panini for lunch and boeuf stroganoff for supper.
We watched The Upside recently too Jaxjacky - a lovely feel good film. Have a good safe day folks.

Susan56 Sun 06-Sept-20 08:53:02

Good morning from Shropshire.

A day at home catching up on laundry and gardening.

We have just started watching the first series of Strike so will watch a couple more episodes tonight.

Hope you and yours are ok gilly?

Thinking of our absent good morningers?

Have a good day all.

Anniebach Sun 06-Sept-20 08:51:50

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Mapleleaf Sun 06-Sept-20 08:46:13

Forgot to add, your quilt is lovely, grandmattie. How clever to be able to produce something so beautiful.
