For all the 'Slack Alices'

Timely discussion. All my adult life I've always worn make up to go out of the house but since March, I've not bothered. I've only been wearing it to meet up with friends in the pub a couple of times since rules changed. Anyway, this morning we've gone to Sainsburys for a "big shop" and I decided to pop on some makeup first to make me feel good. I mentioned it to DH and he said I'd be covered up with a facemask anyway.
I've not had my hair cut since January and found it's gone wavy. I'll perserve with it, and not colouring it either. Comfy clothes for me. I reckon I'm transitioning into the Semi Slack Alice club again.

I've never worn make up and people think I'm 10 years younger. I didn't even wear any on my wedding day but had a great tan; that was the summer of 1976. I've never coloured my hair either as it goes blond in the sun and I have very minimum grey flecks which make my dark blond/brown hair look highlighted! I dress for comfort.

I've just realised that I have never liked grey, and used to refuse to wear it.
I wear it now though, if something is cheap, in my size, and long enough to cover my bum.

I have got an old pair of trousers and an old grey top on. The only new thing is the headband I have knitted to hold my hair back out of my eyes. I am dressed like this to go out and garden in my wilderness. I am chopping down bushes, ripping out bindweed, hacking brambles over 6 ft long and nettles nearly as tall as me. Rigger gloves are de rigeur.

Not a Slack Alice here. When I get to be an octogenarian, I hope I can resemble my style icons of that age ; Sheila Hancock, Judy Dench and of course the sadly departed Diana Rigg.
Each to her own.

When I was working, I used to dress up a bit - suits, dresses, heels. There were some very smart women there and I had to keep up! Since retirement, it's baggy trousers or leggings, baggy tops and Poundland flipflops. I have nice clothes for if I go out. I couldn't do without makeup. At 71 I've developed spots and roseacia. That's all I need!

I shall confess that when I joined my local gym over twenty years ago I would go in with full make-up and matching gym wear . That lasted about five years, now no makeup unless going out for dinner.

I have lived in jeggings, jeans and shorts since lockdown but cannot do without matching underwear and Jo Malone cologne.

I am browsing the internet for some longline tops and leggings for the coming winter. I usually wear dresses and opaque tights.

Do I qualify as a nearly slack Alice ?

Footwear. I've just moved from my flip flop slippers to my (fake) Ugg boot slippers. It's cold and wet outside. If I had to go out today (but luckily I don't) I'd have to wear my old boots that I got for nothing 8 years ago.

Oh no I would feel naked without my face, which actually is just tinted moisturiser, eye pencil and a bit of blusher on my cheeks. I don't look much different but when for some reasons I've been seen au naturel, I've been asked if I'm alright!

Well today I’m a slack Alice as not feeling that well, but I usually wear mascara lipgloss but my hair is combed, I’m wearing my Kim n co qvc loose trousers and thin top, so I’m quite casual, but I do love my skinny jeans but as I’ve got stomach probs(gerd) it’s not good to wear tighter trousers

Its funny because I have thought *what is the point in all this fading about with make-up when I DO go out I wear a mask !

Half and half here - face on, but from the neck down, it’s another story! We were having some building work done recently and I was chatting to the tiler/cups of tea etc. One morning, I had to smarten up to go out and as I stepped into the hall he looked up and said ‘bloody hell, you scrub up well!’ I took it as a compliment?X

I used to spend a ridiculous amount on my hair - cuts, colours, "product". I've had my hair cut once since March and guess what, nobody's noticed

I live in loose trousers or, perish the thought, leggings.
I can’t believe how comfortable they are and as there is only my live in GD to see me it doesn’t matter at all.

A bonus is no ironing as everything stretches round my expanding figure.

No make up to buy, no perfume so I can afford to keep the cake tin, the biscuit tin and the freezer full of treats.

Life is good.

Serendipity22- give yourself a wee treat. Ditch the make up one day and see what happens.
Seriously, I've seen young women take years off by simply not wearing make up. It can be a pernicious habit as they pile on more and more of it. I was particularly struck by a bride at a wedding we were at. As she walked down the aisle she looked 40+. I saw her next day au natural and she looked 100% better and so much younger.

I meant to add, I'm clearly in the Slack Alice club! ☺

I don't wear makeup any more because I don't care about others views. My hair doesn't grow much because I have a poor metabolism and I haven't had it cut since January. I don't have body hair either so no need to bother about that. And because of lock down I haven't been out much so jeans and tee shirts or jumpers are the order of the day

Well, at this present moment in time I class myself as a non slack Alice groupie

Gee, I hope to goodness that I never enlist to the slack Alice fan club ( despite the fact I love the name )

It runs through my veins like a stick of Blackpool rock , to maintain tidy, presentable appearance, even if it's to scoop the milk bottles in, my face must be on.

I'm a slack Alice and fast becoming even slacker.
It's a combination of reasons for me.

Firstly, I'm incredibly lazy by nature and it's all too much faffing around.
Also, I get no pleasure at all from going to the hairdressers, or that type of thing.

If I change handbags I invariably end up losing something in the process, so I stick with black and serviceable.
The same as my underwear.

All sounds fine to me except that I’ve had to have defuzzing on a regular basis as I’m in shorts here in Spain and didn’t want to frighten the natives ?
