Hello! As I said, I'm new.
I joined today. Not a Gran (or a Grandad), but then I'm not a Mum either, and I'm on Mumsnet.
So. Show me around please!

How do you folks use the site?
1. I look at ‘threads I’m on’ to see what has been posted since I last looked, or if anyone has replied to me.
2. Occasionally I ‘watch’ threads without commenting, so if I’m watching a thread I see what’s going on there.
2. Then I look at ‘active threads’ and if there’s something that interests me I look at that.
I never bother with games or anything to do with pets.

One problem is that sometimes threads are given titles which bear no relation to the content of the thread, so it’s possible to miss an interesting thread because the OP has given it a silly title. Or vice versa.

Hi there. Have you ever visited Wightwick Manor in Wolverhampton Fanny there is some great Pre Raphaelite art on display there, worth a visit?

I see you have taken your name from a rather racy model and mistress of those times. ?

Welcome.

We've deleted this post not because it containted anything against our guidelines, but because it quoted a previous post that did. GNHQ

Hello everyone.
I am looking for someone to recommend a hard crunchy Crispbread.
I have enjoyed Ryvita for several years now, but I am finding that recently the recipe has changed somewhat.
The firm crunchy texture which I appreciated, seems to have gone.
I am finding the taste now to resemble damp cardboard!!!!!
I would be interested to hear, if any of the ladies on this site, have experienced the same disappointment with Ryvita in its current recipe.
A recommendation for a change of brand, would be very welcome.
Kind regards to you all.
Thank you.

Hello again, I honestly don't know anything about 'handbags' (I do have a lot of them though).
I assume that you are accusing me of trolling?
I'm a genuine poster, I can assure you.
And yes, my husband is 27 years older than me. We met when I was 26.

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Sep-20 07:18:38

Nankate, yes I have been to Whitwick Manor several times!
I grew up in Stourbridge so it was quite local.
Wonderful collection of PRB paintings at Birmingham City Art Gallery too.

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Sep-20 07:20:23

I've no crisp bread recommendations though.
I favour a Cornish wafer or a water biscuit.

Urmstongran Wed 16-Sep-20 07:37:18

This thread is really taking the biscuit now.
I’m out.

Crackers, more like it!

I had never heard of Fanny Cornforth, it just goes to show what a philistine I am.
However, it set me wondering how much effort some posters make to choose a user name! ?

BlueSky Wed 16-Sep-20 08:20:17

I believed the name was made up so I had to Google it showing my ignorance and I thought I was well educated! Well I've learnt something new! blush

Charleygirl5 Wed 16-Sep-20 08:22:18

Am I slow but I cannot decide if handbags are at the forefront again.

They are but heavily involved in plans for a bit of a do

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Sep-20 08:30:14

Can you tell me what you are accusing me of please?
Then I might have a chance of defending myself!
Thank you.

Marydoll Wed 16-Sep-20 08:31:19

I'm unsure, Charleygirl. I'm afraid of saying anything, in case I'm bagged!!.

I have to hand it to the posters of inane and prolific threads, where do they get the inclination, time and energy??

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Sep-20 08:32:30

Oh for heaven's sake!

Marydoll Wed 16-Sep-20 08:34:21

That was actually meant to be a compliment!!!!

MawB2 Wed 16-Sep-20 08:34:47

I’m currently doing a course on artists’ models and “muses” and all I can say is that somebody fancies themselves.

Marydoll Wed 16-Sep-20 08:36:18

However, I will read from now on, but no more posting from me! ☹️

janeainsworth Wed 16-Sep-20 08:36:41

Marydoll and Bluesky if you want to know more about the fascinating lives of the Pre-Raphaelites and their friends, you might enjoy Lucinda Hawksley’s biography of Lizzie Siddal. It’s very well- researched and gives a great insight into their unusual lives as well as Victorian society generally.
Fanny Cornforth was one of their models but had a sad life, being in love with Dante Gabriel Rossetti who left her to go back to Lizzie Siddal.
