Hello! As I said, I'm new.
I joined today. Not a Gran (or a Grandad), but then I'm not a Mum either, and I'm on Mumsnet.
So. Show me around please!

FannyCornforth

Keeping with the alcohol theme, has anyone tried one of the variations of Jack Daniel's?
There's a cinnamon one, a honey one and a new Apple one.
I'm not usually a fan of whiskey, but they do sound tempting.

Now you’re talking Fanny !

Re sweet Fanny Adams
I imagine that its use developed to be a more socially acceptable of saying sweet f* all.

lemsip Wed 16-Sept-20 12:52:50

my granny was Frances but always called Fanny!

Kalu Wed 16-Sept-20 12:51:45

Just discovered who Sweet Fanny Adams was; an 8yr old English girl who was brutally murdered in 1867 by a solicitors clerk.
I though the phrase referred to mean nothing or very little. No idea it was anything to do with an 8yr old being murdered!

Yes, do you think it was intentional?
I'm inclined to think so

Fanny Craddock?

Apparently at the end of a programme demonstrating how to make doughnuts or something Johnny said “good luck with the recipe and may all your doughnuts turn out like Fanny’s”

Good god I've missed this schoolgirl (person) banter! And all because of a lot of old Fannys! grin

Ellianne Wed 16-Sept-20 11:50:29

Gives a whole new meaning to “getting wrecked."
grin

Oooh yes!!! I remember Fanny Fernackerpan being mentioned in a jokey way in my childhood. Thought it was made up within my family!

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Sept-20 11:44:31

Good work Ellianne!
Apparently, there was a Gracie Fields song called Fred Fernackapan, and Fanny was his wife.
Incidentally, my dog is called Gracie, so there is a tenuous circularity.

There is a Farrow and Ball colour called Cornforth white . Suddenly seems more interesting!.

Greeneyedgirl Wed 16-Sept-20 11:25:57

No babies named Fanny these days ?. Wonder why? Welcome to GN FC it’s a bit like wild swimming on here, just plunge in and enjoy the experience.

Incidentally I feel sorry for the Pre Raph’s women. Most of them came to sad ends. Par for the course in those days I suppose. Some were equally, if not more talented than the men.

merlotgran Wed 16-Sept-20 11:25:51

Who was Fanny Fernackapan?

Seemed to be mentioned a lot during my childhood. hmm

Callistemon Wed 16-Sept-20 11:24:19

Julian Clary!
That Fanny must have been about 130 when she died.

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Sept-20 11:20:26

Well done HAZBEEN!
You win a life supply of innuendoes!

Callistemon Wed 16-Sept-20 11:19:30

Who could forget Fanny Craddock and poor henpecked Johnnie!

Sorry, FannyCornforth, we seemed to have digressed.
The name Fanny is bringing back memories.

Just plunge in. Some people seem to check their emails for pointers to what is going on but I never have.
I suppose it's a similar format to Mumsnet but smaller.

HAZBEEN Wed 16-Sept-20 11:18:03

Julian Clary!

Hi FannyCornforth welcome to GN! It can be rather hard to get going and understand some of the humour at times but most posters are a really supportive lot! I have had good and bad responses over the 4 years since I joined and until recently didn't post very often but have discovered if you stay away from some of the more controversial threads such as News and Politics it can really be worth it on here.

BlueSky Wed 16-Sept-20 11:14:55

Fanny Craddock?

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Sept-20 11:13:28

Quiz time.
Who owned Fanny the Wonder Dog?
