Good Morning Everyone,
Its twilight but its dry with some wind and an autumnal chill in the air.
Met up with my sister and brother last night at a new local hotel here in Brackley , as the hotel with the town being close to Silverstone Circuit you had support teams staying in it .
Plus yesterday , in Buckingham Flea Market I managed to buy an old map of Ireland original price 1/- paid £2 for it for my brother in law .
Today , final stage of Tour De France based in Paris , and see how the sprints unfold .
Take Care ,
Mick

Morning all from South Notts. Pale skies here so it's hard to tell what the weather will be like, it's cooler than of late but still comfortable.

I expect to do my weekly shop later and that's about it really. Then it'll be feet up with the newspaper. I lead a very quiet life and often feel that I have very little to contribute here, but still, most of us aren't going to set the world alight are we? It doesn't follow that our contributions have no value.

Your throw is lovely MellowYellow I bet you're really pleased with it. One positive thing about lockdown is that it has enabled us to get on with creative projects.

Hope today is kind and special thoughts to those who are struggling.

Ginster, you don't need a jam maker, a huge pan will do.
I still have my massive jelly pan, but bought the jam maker years ago when my RA started affecting my hands. It has been worth it's weight in gold! It's foolproof. It doesn't make huge amounts, but that suits me, now that there are only the two of us. My children don't eat jam, too unhealthy!?
I suppose it's the equivalent of buying an automatic car, when you find driving painful!
I used to be a purist, no machines for me, always beating by hand etc. Oh how I have changed, it's gadgets all the way for me now!?

Good morning Mick and the GM team from a currently sunny east London.

Quiet day today (I seldom have any other kind) as I was rather unwell during the week. Am much improved now, but glad to just take things easy. I am waiting for a Neurologist consultation and clinic appt.

We had ‘film night’ last night and watched ‘Amazing Grace’ about William Willberforce and his struggles to get the British Parliament to ban the Slave Trade. It was a very good film, we recommend it.

Roast pork for us today, too Sar.
Mellow what a beautiful throw ... it’s so clever and the colours are lovely. Yes, do please show us the fairy, when she’s ready.
Thinking of Dragonfly, Bluesapphire and of course gilly.
Have a lovely day, all and ? to those facing challenges.

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

I think the littleness of our present lives is hard for most of us, but I so enjoy sharing other lives than my own, however uneventful they are.

We made it to Bath yesterday after our flu jabs but were wiped out for the rest of the day. Our capacity to do things seems much diminished. This morning we have a short service in one of the six churches in our group of parishes - masks, no singing, no coffee after - but not much else. Have a good day if you can.

Good morning All from a wet and gloomy Polmont. Mellow your throw is a beautiful work of art and I'm sure your dgd will treasure it. Marydoll my mum always made bramble jelly and we were used to the gentle drip of the juice seeping through the muslin. Once my db upset the jelly pan and in best Taggart, it looked like there was a murder! To the ladies who feel they don't contribute, you really do. I love reading the snapshots of your lives. It reminds me that we are all here, doing our best to keep going and it is warming. So please don't stop posting. Thank you all for the lovely messages yesterday on my birthday. I don't usually do much but it turned out a busier day than I expected! I had a series of unexpected visitors bearing gifts throughout the day culminating in ds and his partner and her daughter arriving an hour early for dinner to blether and drink fizzy stuff. I don't see him often so it is always a pleasure. Chinese takeaway at dd's later with more fizz and then home. So an excellent birthday all told. Today is a doing nothing kind of day. I had the foresight to organise a tesco delivery so I don't have to go out for food. Apart from that, I'm going to read a bit, potter a bit, sew a bit and probably nap a bit! I hope you all have a good Sunday.

Please don't leave Lins1066 . If there were only those who felt they had something to say, where would we be!? grin

Good morning all from a lovely start to the day here In Essex . We will be off to our cottage by the sea tomorrow bu I think the weather will be turning next week. Oh well. It will be a nice change of scene.

Yesterday we had a busy day with family arriving In groups of four (making 6 with us). DGD saying au revoir as she’s off to uni today. She was quite tearful by the end ! Bless her. I hope she’ll be ok ?.

Mellowyellow that throw is beautiful. So pretty! Did you go by a pattern or just make it up as you went along.? You’ve inspired me to do something similar. A few years ago I crocheted all the GC (8 of them) a small blanket each. 6 pretty ones for the girls and west ham united ones for the twin boys. I notice , when I visit, they still have them on their beds ♥️. GD is even taking hers to uni. ?.

I’d like to make bramble jelly Marydoll but haven’t got a jam maker, . I remember my DM straining it through her stockings hung up in the leanto. ?.

Yes it is a sellers market at the moment (house) . Now s the time ! Houses are flying off the market. Our neighbours for sale board went up just before we went away . When we came back 5 weeks later, they had gone and others have moved in. Unheard of. We keep thinking if moving to our cottage by the sea permanently, but we have family and friends here and that holds us back.

Hope all your Sundays are bright, cheerful and healthy. ?

mokryna Sun 20-Sept-20 08:44:08

Good morning Mick et al , the sun is shining after a few drops of rain last night, only 27c today. This will be better for the Tour de France riders who will be passing through later today. I don’t follow the ins and outs of this sport but I do hope the young 21 year old rider, I have heard mention on the news, wins. No, I will not be in the line of spectators, I did that many years ago when the children were small. Have stood for hours only to see them, if I didn’t blink or some child wanting the toilet. They cycle at such a speed and so close.
I shall be meeting up with a friend in the woods to have a long chat, as we also do not have people in our homes but before that mask on for a market shop. Have a nice day and take care everyone.

Marydoll Sun 20-Sept-20 08:41:56

Could I please ask all those who are thinking of leaving, Don't!!!!☹️
We are are all friends here and everyone has something to contribute, quiet life or not!
Compared to life before shielding, my life is positively silent, but this thread is gentle, kind, supportive and non judgemental and I miss the regulars, when they are missing.☹️

Pantglas2 Sun 20-Sept-20 08:41:17

Oh no Cornergran and Lins - don’t go....I’m quarantined at the moment so my posts are pretty tame but I hope I’m not boring folks! We’re already missing so many .....?

I love reading about where people are geographically- I have a huge map in my head with drawing pins all over the place and can pinpoint who’s having good weather or bad!

Also some of the tips I read are useful - Miss Marydoll splashing jam on her white blouse ? and Urmstongrans books for instance.

Please pop in occasionally and let us know what you’re up to, even if it is ‘ not much at the moment’!

Good morning all from a chilly Scottish Borders but again it was sweltering (by Scottish standards) yesterday so it may warm up.
We saw our littlest ones briefly yesterday when they visited. They were staying with the other DGP so it's hard to know how much contact to have. Not being able to hug DD is hard. One of their extended family is being tested for covid19 and is quite poorly.

I won the family zoom quiz last night. I had to keep re-counting because that never happens. It was set by MrG so perhaps we know the same things.

Your quilt is simply beautiful MellowYellow The 4 yr old will love it.
I am sure your jelly is tasty Marydoll I want some on my porridge now!
Have you thought about tie-dye next time?

Sark Sun 20-Sept-20 08:32:07

Lins1066 It is still nice to hear from everyone whether lives are busy or quiet...but I get what you mean.
I had a break as I didn't have anything interesting to say really but in these strange times decided to come back.
Hang on in there with your virtual friends maybe!?smileflowers

Gelisajams Sun 20-Sept-20 08:28:19

Good morning from a sunny Morecambe Bay.
Not much planned for today apart from Zoom church. As from today the service is back inside church but will be ‘zoomed‘ for those of us who are not confident mixing. I suspect it won’t be long before it’s cancelled again as we are back in semi lockdown from Tuesday. It’s not so bad here but the council leader has agreed with the lockdown as the cases are rising. Prevention being better than cure! The Blackpool leader apparently said no which explains why Blackpool is exempt!
Thanks Marydoll for the update on Gilly even though there is no news. Like most I am quite concerned about her.
Take care and stay safe everyone ?

Urmstongran Sun 20-Sept-20 08:26:03

Oh no Lins! Don’t leave! Same to you as I just said to cornergran.
❤️
We are a little community here. You’d miss us & we’d miss you!

Sark Sun 20-Sept-20 08:24:41

Good Morning from a greyish Oxfordshire.
Not a great night as DH snored through most of it but I can't be cross as he brought me tea and toast in bed which he does every Sunday bless him.
Looking forward to meeting my Mum and Dad in Marlborough for coffee this morning and then a quiet afternoon I expect.
Gorgeous throw Mellow yellow
Marydoll loved The Good Life too....they don't make tv like that anymore.
Have a good Sunday everyone

Jaxjacky Sun 20-Sept-20 08:24:29

Good morning Mick and all from a grey S Hants, still a bit of a breeze here, hope the sun comes out as I’ve washing to do. Filing to do, paperwork goes on the stairs, then the landing, eventually gets filed!
Quiet day today, might do some more tidying in the garden, DH off to golf, two days in a row which is rare, he works very hard during the week so it’s good r&r for him.
Wishing you all a peaceful day, thinking of those with troubles. X

Urmstongran Sun 20-Sept-20 08:23:47

Sun’s up here! ?
Good morning everyone from Malaga ?

Himself watched the Man. Utd match last night on SKY on his iPad. A disappointing start to the season - he said Palace deserved the win. I think he confuses me with someone who is interested. He’s off to watch Rangers in a local bar at 1pm with his mate. I’ll have a short empty as you describe it Marydoll! This is such a tiny apartment I will really appreciate it, as we only have one room & one small balcony to sit in. Sometimes I go in the bathroom for ten minutes of ignoring him - for my sanity’s sake!

Talking of Scottish words - my goodness I needed to look up some reading ‘Shuggie Bain’! I was stumped by ‘gae it lardly’ but got used to ‘pieces’ for sandwiches and other words. I loved the book. Time to choose another ...
?

Think we will eat out tonight at one of our 3 bars downstairs.

Hope Sunday is kind to us all. It’s lovely to just have us all together first thing in a morning cornergran whether you’ve much on or just a quiet day ahead. You’d be missed if you didn’t post. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x

Lins1066 Sun 20-Sept-20 08:23:01

Good Morning Mick and all. Sunny here on the S Welsh coast. Haven't posted for a couple of days and think I will take a break. Have been part of this thread for a number of years now but we too lead a quieter life than many of you.
Wishing everyone well, never forgetting our absent posters, think of you often. Stay safe.

brook2704 Sun 20-Sept-20 08:20:54

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it promises to be another lovely autumn day
We had a lovely walk yesterday in the mountains. As it was so clear and not at all windy we walked from the base station near the broken Cairngorm mountain railway up to the top and down again. Taichinan after the walk we stopped at the Glenmore visitor centre cafe, not far from the Green Lochlan you mentioned yesterday. A perfect day!
Today I’ll be pottering in the garden cutting back the fading summer plants and general tidying up
cornergran sometimes I have days on end when I don’t do very much, for me quiet days are good and enjoyable too
Hope you get some rest later nannytopsy and manc it’s lovely when the little ones stay over but oh so tiring!
What can I say except wow .. mellow you talented lady! Well done the throw is beautiful
Hope everyone finds something to enjoy today and take care whatever the day brings ?

Marydoll Sun 20-Sept-20 08:00:14

Mellow yellow, it's fabulous. What a talented lady you are!
One of MissMarydoll's gold stars for you.?
I would have made you a certificate, but I'm still in bed and anyway, Pantglas will be jealous.?

PS, DH has been for the papers and it's raining! It's supposed to be sunny! ?

Marydoll Sun 20-Sept-20 07:55:28

Good morning everyone, it's very cloudy here at the moment here in Glasgow. Yesterday was lovely, but despite being out all day, the washing wasn't quite dry. There was a slight chill in the air.

Yesterday was unexpectedly busy.
I was working about in the kitchen quite early in the morning, when I heard voices in the garden.
DD and SIL had got up early and went bramble picking behind our house. I hadn't even noticed their car parked at the top of the hill, despite being the street curtain twitcher. ?
So the plan was to make bramble jelly after they left.

DD, has got the cooking bug at last and was looking for ideas what to do with the chicken she had.
She left with herbs, onions and salad leaves, all from the garden. I said to her: This is just like the "Good Life".
She hadn't a clue what I meant, then I realised the programme is forty five years old. I loved that programme, as it inspired me to grow my own veggies. ????

Just after they left, DS2 phoned asking if I needed anything from the shops. before they visited. It was very opportune, as I realised I had little sugar after the recent tablet disaster.?
We spent a lovely couple of hours chatting in the garden, no-one allowed in homes here, when they told us their news. They had managed to sell their flat and buy a house in a couple of days! Now that is moving fast!!
I was absolutely delighted for them, as I had been worried, they would have trouble selling.
They had eight viewings and a number of offers.
Apparently it is a seller's market just now, as many young people are desperate to move, after being stuck at home with parents during lockdown. I don't blame them!! ?

After they left, I started to make the jam. What a mess I got into. Despite wearing an apron, I managed to dye my pristine white top purple.☹️ ( I can highly recommend Morrison's own make, spray stain remover!)
Note to self, change in future, before jam making and ensure you have actually set the jam maker controls before starting. I spent ages, thinking it was broken!?
However, I have to say, the jelly is pretty tasty.
PS. Please don't tell DH I stole borrowed the sterilising tablets from his beer making kit. ? The jars had been in the garage for a year and I was worried about sterilisation.

I plan to make tablet for my supportive neighbours today. No visitors expected and we watched the Sunday, online vigil mass last night, so hopefully uninterrupted and no disasters.
My friend across the road appeared on Friday with a bag of goodies for us, as her son's wedding had to be family only, so we were unable to go.
There was a good red wine for DH and non alcoholic booze and sweets for me.
I'm so lucky to have such lovely friends and I like to give them little treats.

Sadly I haven't heard from Gilly, which is quite worrying, but hopefully we will hear from her when she is ready.
She has taken a break before, but always comes back.
Hazbeen, I hope you had a better day yesterday. ?
Have a good Sunday all and enjoy the weather while it lasts.

Pittcity Sun 20-Sept-20 07:50:37

Good morning from sunny Colchester. Another warm, dry day.
Need to go out and buy a roast, we have trimmings but no joint. Just letting today happen otherwise.

grandMattie Sun 20-Sept-20 07:48:03

Gorgeous throw, Mellow. Although patient, I don’t enjoy little fiddly things. Your GD will be thrilled!

Aldom Sun 20-Sept-20 07:47:52

What a beautiful throw Mellow. A labour of love, the makings of a family heirloom. Please let us see the fairy too.
