Not on official official documents of course but in your mind where do you place yourself and in what order?
I think of myself a EuroEnglishFrench person.

Scottish , even though I have lived in Co Armagh for over 70 years

Your welcome MacCornforth. No need to polish a sporran though as it’s a man thing, worn with the kilt. Just practise saying ‘Och’. ?

Taffy1234 Mon 21-Sep-20 10:13:56

Definitely Welsh!!!!!! European maybe.

Lesley60 Mon 21-Sep-20 10:15:27

I’m Welsh then British

WOODMOUSE49 Mon 21-Sep-20 10:15:49

British.
Live in Cornwall but can't say Cornish as not born/bred here.
Born and bred in Derbyshire and still love the county.

kittylester Mon 21-Sep-20 10:22:44

East Midlander (Derbyshire born but lived in Leicestershire for longer!) English, British.

I also wanted to remain part of Europe but dont feel European.

BlueSky Mon 21-Sep-20 10:30:33

Actually abroad they only know English don't they? hmm

Luckylegs Mon 21-Sep-20 10:32:30

Lancashire born and bred, then English.

Blossoming Mon 21-Sep-20 10:36:14

British. I have ancestors from Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland.

PinkCakes Mon 21-Sep-20 11:15:59

English, that's all.

Poppyred Mon 21-Sep-20 11:19:50

Welsh then British and proud.

Grandmafrench Mon 21-Sep-20 11:26:45

English and European
Here in France, now respond ‘English, unfortunately’
because it prompts the French to immediately say nice things!
?

Parsley3 Mon 21-Sep-20 11:27:49

Scottish, British,European. My DNA says I am half Irish so I should add that too although I have never visited there.

grandMattie Mon 21-Sep-20 11:29:14

My background is mostly colonial French, though I have English and Scottish blood.
I feel more Martian than anything else since my upbringing was so different to anyone else’s.
What is curious is that DH keeps on asking (after 46 years together) if I remember X or Y - my reply is always “no, I wasn’t in England then”... As for AC, they have shown no curiosity about my background, just that I am different.

paddyanne Mon 21-Sep-20 11:37:51

Scots /Irish European.I dont understand why anyone would be ashamed to be Scottish...musy be Vichy Scots ."Scotland has given more to the world than any other nation on earth apart from the ancient greeks" (Winston Churchill) and he hated us ! Celebrate your heritage and the forward looking country we are .Its normal to be Independent and not give 70% of your income to your neighbour.Or maybe thats what you do with your wages ?

Anniebach Mon 21-Sep-20 11:40:53

Welsh

Auntieflo Mon 21-Sep-20 11:43:17

Oh my goodness, between us we have such a mixture of backgrounds.
But me? I'm just me, and happy to be so, whatever my DNA may show.

Jane10 Mon 21-Sep-20 11:46:36

'Vichy Scots' -bloody cheek but all you can expect from that poster. Says a lot about her. Its people like that who have made me ashamed and embarrassed to have to say I'm Scottish. I used to be proud to be Scottish but no more.

Callistemon Mon 21-Sep-20 11:57:23

I thought you meant my given name as different people call me different variations of it.

I'm a Bitzer.
But no Scottish ancestry as far as I can trace.

threexnanny Mon 21-Sep-20 11:57:26

Despite the usual mix of ancestors I can only think of myself as English and wish that option, rather than British, appeared more often on forms.

Callistemon Mon 21-Sep-20 12:02:25

Jane10

I used to say I was Scottish then British and European but now, I'm embarrassed and ashamed to have to admit to being Scottish.

Don't be, Jane10
I have quite a number of Scottish friends and none are supporters of the nationalists.
However, they are Scots who have escaped to warmer climes. (defectors) ??????? --> ??????? ???????

MellowYellow Mon 21-Sep-20 12:05:22

Cornish. Some forms you fill in here actually have Cornish added to the ethnic list.

Oopsminty Mon 21-Sep-20 12:09:29

I think I would say English.

But after reading this thread I'm wondering if I'd say British

When I lived in USA I always said English.

But I am British as well

I would never refer to myself as European though.

I lived in the Canaries. My daughter's father is Spanish. I'm not anti Europe by any means.

I just don't think I'd ever have said I was European

Even though I obviously am.

Brexit or no Brexit

Lexisgranny Mon 21-Sep-20 12:10:08

English, British, Salopian

Vickysponge Mon 21-Sep-20 12:10:38
