School houses?

I've enjoyed Jane10's thread on school mottos so much that I thought I'd ask if anyone can remember their school houses? Ours were Faraday, Scott, Nightingale and Curie. Quite a mixed bag, but seeing as it was a mixed school 2 of each gender was good.

supergirlsnan

Ours were Kinver, Clent, Himley and Enville. All lovely local areas.

Mine were Kinver, Clent, Wenlock and another one that I can't remember. Malvern maybe - is that in the Midlands?
I was in Wenlock. We always came last in any sporting endeavours.

I attended 2 secondary schools as a student and 2 more as a staff member, I can remember them all except, strangely, the last school I worked in.

First school was Blue Gum, Clematis, Orchid and Wattle (Australian plants)
Second, Cummings, Deakin, Everard and Tate (Australian politicans)

First as a staff member Aztecs, Gladiators, Vikings and Warriors

Now I am not able to stop trying to remember the last. Will have to find out or it will niggle for ages.

I was in Dominic Savio. The others were Maria Goretti, John Bosco and can’t remember the other.

Then it was Saxon, Norman, Vikings and Celts. I was a Saxon.

MrsEggy
We may have been at the same school!
I was in Seymour, blue phoenix badge, Tudor had a yellow Tudor Rose, Beaufort a red portcullis, and Bordeaux a green fleur de lys. The house systems are long gone but the house noticeboards are still on the wall.

Another all girls school here - so:-

Grace Darling - badge was white over blue for the waves.
Abbess Hilda - black and white like a nuns habit.
Elizabeth Browning - yellow and green for the countryside.
Florence Nightingale - red and white for bandages.

I was in Grace Darling - she rowed out with her father to a sinking ship, just off the Farne Islands to rescue the crew. (Brief explanation, do look it up).

Lemongrove I won't remember tomorrow what I had for dinner tonight.

lemongrove Sat 26-Sept-20 22:04:36

Yes annsixty I was very annoyed at the time by the sibling thing, I wanted to be in the same house as my friend.
We had a house meeting every week on a Friday in our lunch hour! Another annoyance.Where earnest prefects berated us for not earning any housepoints that week, and swots made eager suggestions as to how we could all do better.

annsixty Sat 26-Sept-20 21:55:50

At our school if a sibling was already there you were automatically put in that house.
I think that also applied if a parent had been at the school.
It is now almost derelict , such a shame both for the former Grammar School but also for the beautiful buildings, in the very centre of the town.

Ha-ha, lemon - no!
Ours were red, white, dark blue, light blue. No names, just the colours which I suppose were those of the Union Jack. I was in red. Dark blue was always the top house, followed by light blue, then red, then white. I was at the school for five years and that was always the case even though the house members must have changed every year when some students left and new ones joined. I was average at sports and in the classroom so I never gained a house point for anything. On the other hand I didn't lose any either.

Lemongrove
I have a memory like an elephant for those far off days but ask me tomorrow at 8am and I will struggle to remember what day it is.

JackyB Sat 26-Sept-20 21:34:23

Ours were very unimaginative. I was in Exeter House because the school was in Exeter Road.

When the Grammar and secondary schools were combined into a comprehensive I hoped that, as we were in Newmarket, the houses would be named after famous horses - lovely names to choose from.

The secondary school had Constable, Sergeant, Gainsborough and I think Turner.

Greyduster Sat 26-Sept-20 21:29:30
