What a voice she had. We were lucky enough to see her on stage in Blood Brothers. She was fantastic. RIP Helen.

I am not too sure who she was- an actor as well as a singer?

Kate1949 Wed 30-Sep-20 13:36:54

Mainly a singer I believe. Her most famous song I think was I am Woman.

You must catch up! She wasn't acting when she sang "I am woman, hear me roar" Even I knew that she was a true-blue Aussie! grin

I can't believe some people haven't heard of her *Rufus". She was amazing.

?I am woman, hear me roar? That was my anthem when I was in my twenties.
What a great singer. RIP Helen Reddy

Not my favourite song of hers, "I am woman, hear me roar" sung without any passion or "oomph".

Didn't she also record "Angie Baby"? Much better song, and better delivery, imo.

Kate1949 Wed 30-Sep-20 14:51:32

Yes Angie Baby. Great song.

Me too loved I am Woman but Angie Baby is quite disturbing. RIP Helen flowers

Getting mixed up with Helen Shapiro ?

Oh no! She had a wonderful voice.

RIP Helen, you will be missed.

Phoenix With all due respect you've gone off topic! hmm
This is an RIP about Helen, not simply her singing, but about her rallying call to her sisters!
You need to start another thread to promote those other ladies!

I loved the way she sang I am Woman. Her voice was so strong and effortless (in my opinion smile ). I believe she co-wrote it.

A sad loss in deed. My three daughters all acknowledge that they were raised on 'I am Woman' and it has served them well.

MissAdventure Wed 30-Sep-20 17:53:54

Ah, I had forgotten about 'Angie Baby'.
My mum really loved that song, but I'm sure the words are quite sinister, although I don't know them all.

Now I'm wondering if she picked up what it was about, because I've presumed she wouldn't have approved.

Of course she must have known.

‘I Am Woman Hear Me Roar’ was my anthem before I took my driving test for the first time. I played it on the record player as loud as I dare before my driving instructor picked me up to take me to the test centre. I passed!!!

It’s been my ear worm whenever I’ve felt I’m in for a put down. It’s my assertive song and always will be.

RIP Hellen and thank you for your gift. ❤️

I hadn't heard about Helen's death until I read this thread and so went off to YouTube to re aquaint myself with her songs. What a strong, beautiful and clear voice she had; it was good to listen to them again. RIP

Angie Baby - very strange lyrics but a great song even so. RIP, Helen, a woman for her time.

I love the way Helen sang I Am Woman.

Also Angie Baby is one of my favourites

I have a school friend called Angie who I am still in touch with. We would always call her name then burst into the song.

I still do.
