I have recently heard a piece of music that has bought tears to my eyes. It was at a funeral for my friends husband so was an emotional day, but this piece of music has really struck a cord. I hope you get a chance to listen to Donna Taggart a song called Jealous of the angels. I love all music but this one strikes at the heart. sorry cant post the link I'm not that clever.

I've not got round to thinking about mine, but for my father's, his coffin was carried out to 'Music for the Royal Fireworks'. Given where the coffin was bound, I think he would have enjoyed it!

Sandye that is such a beautiful song, thank you.

When my ex partner died, we played Angel by Sarah Mclachlan at his funeral. The lyrics were very apt.
Its a beautiful song but still very hard for me to listen to.

I've requested Return to Sender by Elvis Presley. At a dear friends funeral, over 3 years ago, they played Mr Sunshine which fitted the personality, but everytime I hear it I burst into tears remembering an energetic life that was shortened by cancer.

Beautiful song, lovely words.
I would like Runrigs An Ubhal As Airde (The Highest Apple) at mine.

My husband passed away last year and I chose Bat Out of Hell for the last piece of music - it was one of his favourites but I think it gave everyone a shock!! Although it also put a smile on a few faces !!

I haven’t given songs for my funeral a thought yet. Guess as we never know ‘when’, I’d better start thinking.

GardenofEngland. We had In My Life at Mums funeral last year and Dancing Queen, she loved to dance.

henetha Fri 02-Oct-20 10:45:25

That's a beautiful song, but it's definitely Queen for me.

DH's funeral is tomorrow. He will arrive to a medley of songs played (on cassette) by his main band, time for reflection will have Dave Brubeck's Time is Tight - drummer DH's all time favourite - and we will leave to his last ceilidh band's version of the Gay Gordons. That will cheer us up.

I would have something soulful like Marvin Gaye, 'whats going on', George Benson 'Nature boy' or something by Santana to get everyone dancing & shaking their hips!

Yes sandye it is a beautifull song.
My Aunt died in April of this year, and that song was played at her service.
Another beautiful song is called Friends by Merrill Osmond which has made me well up more than once.

Starting with the funeral March from Dr. Zhivago, then Lara's theme. Ending with ‘always look on the bright side‘ from Life of Brian.

As a Liverpool FC supporter I want "When you walk through a storm " sung by Gerry and the Pacemakers at my funeral.
My younger sister is a Man Utd supporter so I won't tell her because if she is still around at the time she might refuse to go!

Daddima Fri 02-Oct-20 11:17:45

Sorry for your loss, Granny23. I hope tomorrow will bring you some comfort.

Wish you were here by the BeeGees. It beautifully expresses my love and feelings towards my husband now that he has gone. Oh dear I’m now in tears, having a bad day today.

schnackie Fri 02-Oct-20 11:23:18

Granny23 I'm so sorry for your loss. flowers

In total contrast at my BIL's funeral 3 years ago he had "Who let the dogs out" sung at his funeral!!

Not quite my taste, but it reflected his sense on humour.
