My cleaner has died suddenly---

No. not a human, ( although it did have some odd habits ), just my Air Ram cleaner. It just gave a little gasp and died mid-sweep, so now I need a replacement . I shan't replace like with like as I've never really got on with this one, much preferring the old original model, so I would much appreciate any recommendations for a new purchase. It must be cordless, light (I have painful arthritic hands) and easy to empty as well as being efficient ,of course. No throw away dust bags either. Help please.

This - Bosch BCS61PETGB Serie 6 Pet Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner just under €200 from Argos. It’s on offer, normal price is £300. I just bought one and it’s brilliant. Very light, great performance and easy to empty. I highly recommend it.

Rather an unfortunate title for a thread, in the current circumstances.

Marydoll Tue 13-Oct-20 13:34:48

I thought that too! I'm over sensitive at the moment. sad

Tea3 Tue 13-Oct-20 13:38:41

A robovac all the way.

SueDonim Tue 13-Oct-20 13:46:02

Gosh, I was a bit taken aback at the title, too.

TerriBull Tue 13-Oct-20 13:51:10

I was upset to read the title, our lovely cleaner has been today. Thankfully just a machine.

Charleygirl5 Tue 13-Oct-20 13:54:18

I also was taken aback and was going to send condolences- maybe you should ask GNHQ to change the title.

ninathenana Tue 13-Oct-20 17:11:21

I exclaimed "Oh, no !" out loud when I read the title.

I apologise to anyone who was upset by the thread title which was merely intended to be eye catching in order to elicit some recommendations.

I shan't post again.

(Exits tearfully over the unswept carpet.)

Do post again Chicken but choose your words carefully grin

SueDonim Tue 13-Oct-20 18:12:48

Don’t let it put you off, Chicken! You could just ask GNHQ to change the title. smile

BlueSky Tue 13-Oct-20 19:15:21

Oh Chicken don’t go! OK perhaps an unfortunate title under the present circumstances, but you just wanted to get our attention, (and succeeded)!

GrannyLaine Tue 13-Oct-20 19:25:06

Blimey! A lot of flouncing on here these days shock

Witzend Tue 13-Oct-20 19:32:05

Please don’t cry, chicken!
I too took your title at face value but was just relieved to find that it was only a vacuum cleaner. No offence or upset caused at all.

Marydoll Tue 13-Oct-20 19:32:20

Chicken, just do as has been suggested. I'm sure GN will be amenable.

Our reactions reveal how preoccupied we are with the pandemic. A sad reflection of the times we are in.

Urmstongran Tue 13-Oct-20 19:41:50

No more tears chicken eh? Great headline for attention grabbing anyway!
?

BlueSky Tue 13-Oct-20 19:47:42

Chicken I meant to ask why don’t you want to replace your Air Ram? I’ve got one a GTec K9 and I’m very pleased, I’ve recently purchased it after buying a Dyson Ball which proved far too heavy. Beware of the heavy cleaners!

Luckygirl Tue 13-Oct-20 19:54:29

I have a Dyson stick vacuum cleaner and it has been nothing but trouble. It has been back to the maker twice for replacement parts and another part is teetering on the brink right now.

The motor and suction are fine; but the plastic parts are brittle and fragile and do not last.

Charleygirl5 Tue 13-Oct-20 21:12:34

Luckygirl if I remember correctly they are none too cheap so should not be so fragile.

welbeck Tue 13-Oct-20 23:38:39

why do people prefer bagless; i find them repulsive, all that dust flying around when i try to open an awkward catch, balancing it above the dustbin in a gale.
i much prefer bags which can be handled carefully inside and keeps a barrier between me and the dust.

I have had 2 Air Rams - the first was great and picked up everything in it's path but the second (bought for another property) was pretty useless. I have a Dyson Animal which I love - I've taken it completely to bits a couple of times to clean it which is handy (YouTube helped smile ) but I also have a Vax cordless - it's ok but quite bulky and not so easy to clean. The Shark one with hair wrap technology looks good - I have long hair and cats so constantly clearing the brushes of the stuff!

Witzend Wed 14-Oct-20 09:49:42

I have a big bagless and a stick ditto. I empty them (indoors) straight into a bin liner - there’s hardly any dust.

My main peeve with the Dyson cordless (bought some time ago and one of the cheaper ones) is that it stops working if the filter needs washing - and it takes 24 hours to dry. Plus it’s not remotely obvious from the look of it that the filter does need washing.
We bought a spare for £12 ish - in the circs I really think they should supply a spare as standard.
