I'm not quite sure what I'm trying to do here, but I tried to take an evening shot tonight of an earlier daytime shot for fun!

My university halls were almost next to the Ambassador's sumptuous house in Regent's Park. I could never understand why they went and built the London Mosque right next door.

I used to walk past the American Embassy often when I worked in the West End. A very imposing facade. The new one looks a bit unprepossessing by comparison.

Took this shot of the moon this evening. Not very often my camera plays ball with night shots.

Throughout this summer I was working in Grosvenor Square.

The former embassy site is now a huge construction site - they are supposedly keeping the outer facade as it's Listed.

It's now owned by the Qatar sovereign fund and will be a mixture of hotel, shopping and entertainment.

DH said it looked like a face, too.

The unique thing about London is the way old and new sit perfectly side by side. I'm sure I took a photo somewhere (off to look now).

Minimoon I know Tooley Street very well indeed and you’re rights beyond recognition.! When my old boy 1st worked there in the mid 70s it was alleged to be “on the up”...well it took a while... but by the time we left London it had a completely different vibe and has moved up a notch or 2 since then!

Ellianne, no such thing as the rough end of the river these days, when ex-council flats in The Borough go for half a million.

My Uncle and Aunt lived in Tooley Street in a mansion block with a great view of Tower Bridge. DH and I were in London a couple of years ago and visited the area. I didn't recognise any of it. The regeneration is wonderful, but my, how the place has changed.

Goodness you’re right about Nine Elms, I’ve only been away from London 12 years but it certainly wasn’t Embassy territory then! The walks along the river are what I miss most, my old boy worked near Tower Bridge but we loved other stretches of the Thames too. This one was taken on a visit 3 years ago and the view through the bridge had changed since we left and no doubt will not be the same now. Sorry didn’t intend to bring us back to “bridges”, I went on a meander down Memory Lane there !

We lived just up the road from Battersea power station in the sixties, Ellianne. My how it’s changed round there.

Our housemates, and two shots taken on holiday in Antarctica in February this year. The black humps in the foreground are whales, and the junk in the second is actually an amazingly shaped iceberg!
