1000 words. Photos on GN.

They say a picture paints a thousand words and there have been some lovely photos on GN recently. I am a visual person and, especially at this time, pictures cheer me up. Autumn scenes, people's gardens, cake baking, craftwork, pets, clothes we fancy buying etc. Even stock images of Boris, royalty etc.
What is the general feeling? Are they superfluous or do they add another dimension? Are we "allowed" to just drop them into a non photographic thread?

No Ellianne the fairy maker is a young teenager now and still loves to see her fairy on the tree. They all love to paint or craft.

Ah, yes lemongrove, you spotted my special jugs. You must show me yours once you’ve got them out.

Ellianne Thu 17-Dec-20 21:47:54

Holly alert!
I watched a programme about Hampton Court at Christmas and the lady who was doing the decorations was cutting all the red berries off the holly. She was then twisting little artificial ones back on the stems. Apparently the berries stain the floor. I never knew that.

Lisa ! Christmas jugs? it’s inspired me to get my jugs out tomorrow ( they’re well hidden at the moment) I may have to search the shed ( what?)

Is that the same DGD who illustrated her Pooh story LauraNorder? She is very creative.

Lisagran those green shoots really shout new beginnings.

The fairy which has adorned my tree for 10 years made by my granddaughter.
Merry Christmas Ellianne and all

Ellianne I can just imagine myself sipping that coffee now...

Wow Lisagran their early! I'm still planting the last of my bulbs, albeit a little late!

Lisagran Thu 17-Dec-20 10:42:49

Signs of new beginnings - hope -

Greyduster Thu 17-Dec-20 10:06:35

I remember one Christmas there were roses in full bloom in my sisters garden. The next day it snowed so hard we struggled to get home down the motorway!

lemongrove Thu 17-Dec-20 09:38:56

Lovely roses cornergran amazing that they are still going in December.

lemongrove Thu 17-Dec-20 09:38:07

Coffee outside? Grrrrr indeed.?

Ellianne Thu 17-Dec-20 09:28:08

OK.
So this photo is totally off the wall! It came in to me this morning from my sister in New Zealand. Grrrrrrr. But beautiful.

Greyduster Thu 17-Dec-20 09:06:40

Yes please do keep the thread going - it’s been a joy and I really looked forward to it. I love seeing other people’s photos whatever they are.

Another plea here to keep the thread going Ellianne, it’s a welcome, gentle thread with some fabulous, interesting images. The last few buds were rescued from the roses today and are now part of Christmas and there’s a misty morning view from a few weeks ago.

Spikey bush (?) which had lots of pretty raindrops reflecting the light on it, but I couldn't photograph them! Any tips for next time?
Then my latest Christmas offering for a friends little one: Christmas Pudding Ensemble! grin

I do hope this thread can continue after Christmas Ellianne?
It would certainly blow away any post Christmas blues for me!
If we can't take many photos outside, perhaps we can go back over our collections and just post ones of place we've been in the past?
Could be nice seeing other peoples holiday snaps!

Beechnut Wed 16-Dec-20 09:38:58

I was hoping it would keep running Ellianne. If not I will look forward to the Easter one.
Merry Christmas ?

Ellianne Wed 16-Dec-20 08:53:17

Here's a simple image from yesterday after the rain. The leaves look like they have tiny jewels all round their edges like a bride's veil. (Hope you can see this without the magnifying glass again).

We have almost run out of pages now, so time for a couple more photos before the lovely thread closes. If I don't get another chance I'd like to say thank you to everyone who has contributed over the past weeks. We've seen some talented photographers and artists, learnt some interesting things and shared many treasured memories. I'm glad those who haven't been able to go out have enjoyed being part of this thread too. And a special thank you to the poster who explained how looking at the photos with her carer had brought her such happiness.
Maybe there will be the chance for another thread at Easter when we can all break free.

lemongrove Tue 15-Dec-20 14:39:17

Namsnanny

You can never have too many sprouts at Christmas Greyduster ?

Or too many golden retrievers?( which can be sold for a fortune on Ebay)

Ellianne Tue 15-Dec-20 12:55:53

No blue skies here today but the sun is trying to do its absolute best. It goes from light to dark in minutes.

Ellianne Mon 14-Dec-20 23:25:23

I love blue skies in December.
