Hi all
I sometimes ponder over the meaning of posters' usernames and thought it might be an interesting topic for a thread.
My own "maydonoz" is the Turkish word for parsley, to reflect my many years living in Turkey, previously and also enjoy cooking so use many herbs, including parsley.
Some of you may wish to share your username meaning too.

Mine is obvious and getting more so as time goes on!

Greyduster Mon 19-Oct-20 15:15:13

Mine is the name of my favourite fishing fly. It is tiny and grey, but irresistible (a bit like me really!?).

When I was thinking about joining GN I said: "Of course they will all be domestic goddesses". Since I am very definitely not a domestic goddess I decided that I was going to name myself after the Roman queen of the godsgrin. My year of birth is 1956 hence Juno56.

Mine is the same one I used for several years on a forum for carers of people with dementia. I couldn’t be bothered to think of a new one.
Self explanatory, I should think!

SueDonim Mon 19-Oct-20 15:39:36

Mine’s fairly self-explanatory. I stole it from a book, though, so I can’t claim originality. grin

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 19-Oct-20 15:45:58

Mine's just a play on a question that was raised on the late, great Terry Wogan's website as it was supposed to appeal to 'oldies', "looking for something in beige?"
I possess just one beige cardigan and have them in other colours.

Stephenmarra Mon 19-Oct-20 15:50:24

When I worked night shift, those that worked for/with me where mostly West Cumbrian and was always greeted with a "awz't ga'an marra" and thereafter referred to as marra, so marra it is.

Bathsheba Mon 19-Oct-20 15:50:51

Quite simply because I loved Far From the Madding Crowd (Bathsheba Everdene being the story's protagonist).

Baggs Mon 19-Oct-20 16:29:14

I was baggythecrust initially. I make most of our bread and no-one is allowed to cut a new loaf until I've swiped a thick doorstep crust off one end (only because they don't seem to be able to cut it to the desired thickness, or straight ?). One of my highest pleasures in life is a thick crust spread with butter and marmalade and a proper cup of tea (tea made in a teapot with loose leaf tea). I'm a simple soul!

It got shortened over time for various reasons. Still baggythecrust on Twitter though.

Illte Mon 19-Oct-20 16:31:59
