Hi all
I sometimes ponder over the meaning of posters' usernames and thought it might be an interesting topic for a thread.
My own "maydonoz" is the Turkish word for parsley, to reflect my many years living in Turkey, previously and also enjoy cooking so use many herbs, including parsley.
Some of you may wish to share your username meaning too.

I was trying to think of something happy and optimistic ...shining bright ...bright star ext ...With the year of my birth to start it off. Unfortunately I somehow got cut off before I was finished and this is the result. Not all that bright after all grin

boheminan Mon 19-Oct-20 17:14:47

Many years ago school friend of my daughter (who's now 40) gave me a huge compliment by remarking that she loved the way I looked, because I reminded her of a bohemian, so I just added an n to make myself into a boheminan

I was Granny to two when I was on Mumsnet. By the time I moved over to Gransnet I was a Granny to Three. Simples.

Grandmabatty Mon 19-Oct-20 17:27:56

My children called my mum grandma Batty when they were young from Nora Batty in last of the summer wine. It was a sign of affection and she loved it. When I was a new grandma that's what I thought would make a perfect name for me. I'm not grumpy though and my stockings aren't wrinkled but I'm a bit batty.

DGD1 had two grannies - Granny Suffolk, now sadly deceased and also known as Hammy, and me, Granny Somerset. Simple really though unimaginative.

BlueSky Mon 19-Oct-20 17:34:17

Interesting thread, I often wonder what the user names mean. Mine because I try to be as my name sake even though I’m often GreySky! Maydonoz I’ve learnt a new word in a foreign language, I like languages and I’m pretty good at them. ?

Calendargirl Mon 19-Oct-20 17:35:04

I think Neil Sedaka was singing on the radio...

Either that, or I just glanced at the calendar for inspiration as two previous choices had been taken already.

Grannynannywanny Mon 19-Oct-20 17:35:43

I wasn’t being very imaginative and every name I tried was already in use. After multiple attempts I somehow ended up with this one. I dislike it, it’s far too long and I can’t figure out how to change it!

I hope everyone realises that GN is a public forum as several people have revealed something about their names that could identify them. No problem if you don't mind being identified, but if you do....

I was in agony with a broken ankle when I started on forums

grumppa Mon 19-Oct-20 18:03:06

A few years ago, my family decided, wholly unjustly, to christen me The Christmas Grump.

I wish I could tolerate alcohol and drink champagne !

Charleygirl5 Mon 19-Oct-20 18:45:55

Charley was the name of my previous cat. I added the girl to show which sex I was and 15 because that was my school number.

FlyingHxndbag Mon 19-Oct-20 18:53:12

I am never without a handbag and I often fall, sending my handbag flying which made me come up with my original name of Flyinghandbag but I deleted that account due to data concerns, then came back and got locked out, I keep getting locked out and having to make new accounts, so this one is FlyingHandbag with an X as I always put an X at the end of my posts. X

Toyoungtobeadamnedgran Mon 19-Oct-20 18:57:54

Every other name I tried had gone and my friends joked around and said mine to take the mik

Spangler Mon 19-Oct-20 19:00:27

Our family name is Taylor. There's a bit of an urban myth that my mother had a crush on the 1940's Hollywood star, Robert Taylor. It's probably just that, a myth. We won't know because mother died young, she was just 33, and children would never ask a parent the question: "Did you fancy Robert Taylor?"
But I share the same name as that Hollywood legend, however, did you know that MGM gave him that name? His real name was Spangler Arlington Brugh. Doesn't exactly roll of the tongue, does it?

Lulubelle500 Mon 19-Oct-20 19:04:21

My family has called me Lulu for as long as I can remember. No one could ever tell me how it began - my given name is quite different. My maternal grandfather who was French always called me My little Belle so....

Toyoungtobeadamnedgran Mon 19-Oct-20 19:07:21
