Hi all
I sometimes ponder over the meaning of posters' usernames and thought it might be an interesting topic for a thread.
My own "maydonoz" is the Turkish word for parsley, to reflect my many years living in Turkey, previously and also enjoy cooking so use many herbs, including parsley.
Some of you may wish to share your username meaning too.

We had a single 30 minute lesson of this at school aged 14, and chuffed that it’s stayed with me for 50 years.

Someone unknown yesterday walked past me in the gym corridor and then suddenly called me back - “excuse me, but is it you I see in the pool doing “those things”? (cartwheels)
So chuffed - it made my entire day.

I also have a bit of a reputation to maintain with solo demonstrations at various European hotels where it’s not unknown for people to get their cameras out....(looking like a sack of spuds in lycra) ?

Not boasting, just find it amusing...

Mine is the pen name I chose as a teenager when I thought I might be a writer. It is my middle name and the name of a young actor I had a crush on at the time. Never did get into the writing game, sadly.

Sheilasue Tue 20-Oct-20 14:06:33

Sheila is my name and Sue was my mother’s.

Nannyjulesrules Tue 20-Oct-20 14:06:07

My user name couldn't be more wrong, I'm not at all bossy. My OH is is the one who rules in our house, sadly. I must have been having a good day and feeling very assertive when I was trying to think of a name, it was the first thing that came into my head! I shall change it when I can think of something better.
I also have very thin legs,*Luckylegs*, especially from my knees downwards. Always embarrassed wearing school skirts and short socks. If I put on weight it never goes below my knees!
Love reading all these posts today, cheered me up loads!

Team I support.

missdeke Tue 20-Oct-20 13:53:10

Maydonoz I had to laugh at your post, I lived and worked in Turkey for 13 years and as a hater of parsley, all the local restaurants used to say to me 'maydanoz yok?' when I ordered a meal. My username comes from a bellboy in a hotel in Alanya who used to call me missdeke.

My user name is because I used to be in a junior theatre as a child, and my mother was told I had a talent for singing, but sadly in those days it wasn't regarded as a real job.

grannytotwins Tue 20-Oct-20 13:36:19

Mine’s obvious. They are such a joy. Very premature and now very bright and ahead of their peers.

schnackie Tue 20-Oct-20 13:33:42

My real name is Candy (which I thought I would hate as I grew out of childhood, but it still suits me) and a little Dutch boy in a B&B where I was staying in Amsterdam forgot and called me Schnackie - he knew it was something sweet to eat!

threexnanny Tue 20-Oct-20 13:27:44

Simply have three grandchildren

Scribbles Tue 20-Oct-20 13:20:43

I'm a writer.

Panda25 Tue 20-Oct-20 13:19:04

Mine was the nickname my first husband gave me when I was hugely pregnant with our 2nd child and I was very tired so had dark lines around my eyes!!! Not sure if it was romantic or not

bluelord Tue 20-Oct-20 13:14:31

Mine is my favourite colour and lord is the title of an old poet who has the same first name as me.

user2058 Tue 20-Oct-20 13:11:15

My User name says that I am dim. It came up like that when I first joined Gransnet and I have never been able to change it!

LadyO Tue 20-Oct-20 13:08:47

My first grandchild’s nickname cos we were all so excited to have a new little girl in our family. Now have two boys as well, but haven’t yet called them Lord C or Lord F... ?

Nanacool Tue 20-Oct-20 13:08:12

Because I still am ?

Scotwap Tue 20-Oct-20 13:07:31

I am Scottish and my husband was Italian

icanhandthemback Tue 20-Oct-20 13:03:19

Mine is purely a play on that saying about the beauty of grandchildren is that you can hand them back. I love my grandchildren to bits but I do find them exhausting!

lefthanded Tue 20-Oct-20 13:02:21

No prize for guessing mine.......

Daddima Tue 20-Oct-20 12:56:28

My Indian sister in law called me Daddima, as in grandmother on the father’s side. Apparently Nanima is the grandmother on themother’s side.

Stella14 Tue 20-Oct-20 12:49:20

It’s a tribute to my favourite, beautiful Standard Poodle. I lost her in 2014 and still think of her daily!

Nancat Tue 20-Oct-20 12:47:37

Years ago I was Momcat, raising orphaned kittens. Now I'm older Nancat seems more appropriate.
