Watching repeats of the great British sewing bee(even though I don’t sew). They made a blouse with a pussy bow tie. I realised I’d never ever wear one. What would you never wear ?

handbaghoarder Wed 21-Oct-20 13:33:30

Soooooooo many things. Quicker to list what I would/do wear smile Great thread BTW. I wonder just how many of us clicked onto “country collection” link above ? Purely for research purposes of course smile

Anything cleavage revealing. Double ughs and yuck.

seadragon Wed 21-Oct-20 13:21:56

I never suited jeans in my youth but discovered Per Una straight leggers fit and look good, always with a tunic, preferably corduroy which seems to be making a comeback at last!! I always hated 'Pussy Bows' and frills and padded shoulders... I am startled by all those female presenters drowning in voluminous deep frill skirted long frocks. I saw them in Markies at the end of last year and they all seemed to be made of a nasty synthetic fabric. I loved the mid calf length long sleeved cotton or wool frocks produced by Laura Ashley in the 80's and 90's but don't fancy any of these modern day travesties.

Skechers ARE very comfortable @Lucca ?

I saw a post on Mumsnet some time ago where Mums were asking where to shop as an alternative to Joules and Boden because some of them were feeling like they were wearing a uniform.

Another answer to this is to shop the work of artists on sites like Redbubble or Society6. I often use these sites because the prints are really nice, a proportion goes to an actual artist who probably really appreciates the support and also no one can tell where you shopped (well they might now) ?

I didn’t realise I was such a style disaster grin

I think I've always thought that I was!

I never go out of fashion, though.
(Because I'm never in fashion)

Puzzler61 Wed 21-Oct-20 12:57:24

No worries Lucca , stripes aren’t for everyone although they are many people’s staple wardrobe item. (I’ve got striped hoodie sweat tops and rugby shirt too).

It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things. ?

Lucca Wed 21-Oct-20 12:51:42

OH. HELP,
my comment about the Breton stripes tops and gilet etc was NOT a criticism!! Nor the Skechers ! I have no access to a Skechers shop otherwise I’d probably have a pair !
I have many stripy tops.
I like the dresses you mention Leeds22....

Storytopper69 Wed 21-Oct-20 12:51:18

Animal skin prints
Camouflage
Fluorescent colours
Cold shoulder tops
Wide sleeves - catch on door handles
Assymetrical hems
Stiletto heels and pointed toe shoes
Pussy cat bows
Frills
Slogans
Puffed sleeves
Batwing sleeves
Cowl necks
Wool next to my skin
Teddies, etc. on nightwear.

However, I do wear jeans, lycra and fleeces - and crocs in the house and garden.

Lavazza1st

I do not own a navy gilet, but a teal one which is lurking in a cupboard! ? I have not worn it for years and will donate to charity ASAP along with skechers trainers!

No don’t ! I have a navy gilet I like very much ! Haven’t any Skechers but a couple of pairs of superga.

cornishpatsy Wed 21-Oct-20 12:41:35

Sorry if repeating I have not read the whole thread.

I do not like the uniform of Joules or Seasalt striped top, adding flowers to the print does not change it, ironed jeans and Skechers.

Also think that you have to be tall and slim to carry off Lagenlook.

HannahLoisLuke Wed 21-Oct-20 12:38:34

Short skirts (Brigitte Macron and Teresa May please note)
Polyester, acrylic, anything that feels crunchy when wet.
Animal prints
Glitter or sequins
Pearly eyeshadow, so ageing.
Low necklines
Bare shoulders, though some look OK in them
Leggings

I do wear jeans, harem pants and wide leg trousers.

Spec1alk Wed 21-Oct-20 12:38:25

I don’t wear any clothing with pictures or writing on.

Growing0ldDisgracefully Wed 21-Oct-20 12:37:30

Pink twee tops with sickly Disney characters on the front.
Jeans with the knees frayed out (why??).
Cropped tops.
Fussy frilly clothes.
Anything brown or navy (ex school uniform colours, never liked them).
Ugg-style boots.

SooozedaFlooze Wed 21-Oct-20 12:36:05

OMG I've just realised what I must look like on my hols coz I don't give a flying f what I look like.. Boob tubes, booty shorts, jeans, you name it ha ha ha and I'm a size 20

janeainsworth Wed 21-Oct-20 12:28:55

The first time I went out with MrA in 1969 I wore a white spotted blouse with a tie bow at the neck, with a navy miniskirt I’d made myself. It didn’t seem to put him off grin

I would still wear many things that others have condemned. Miniskirts, biker boots, striped Breton tops, jeans, skinny rib polo sweaters and bikinis still have a place in my wardrobe.

I didn’t realise I was such a style disaster grin

Bijou Wed 21-Oct-20 12:25:26

Jeans
Trousers of any kind
Pyjamas
Short skirts.
T shirts
Heavy woollens
Heels
Boots
Turtle necks

leeds22 Wed 21-Oct-20 12:24:03

bikini (never liked them even when I had the body for them)

those horrible, fashionable mid-calf, long sleeved, floral dresses Kate Middleton wears

stiletto heels, any heels really

HootyMcOwlface Wed 21-Oct-20 12:23:49

I dislike things with slogans on or great big logos.
(e.g. Why anyone would want a top with Sweaty Betty emblazoned across their chest beats me ?)

RhysTaylor1 Wed 21-Oct-20 12:19:34

Orange should stay only on the fruit, unless you aredark skinned.
Mustard colour makes me look ready to be laid out, but primrose yellow l can wear.
White cardigan are a no-no. Hideous.

rockgran Wed 21-Oct-20 12:18:08

I hate those sleeves that are deliberately too long and go over the hand. It would drive me mad !

Flakesdayout Wed 21-Oct-20 12:16:03

Most things have been mentioned, but I will not wear beige. Can't wear high heels and avoid skirts. Suspenders (not even in 'those' days).
At work we did a Christmas secret santa and one of the girls bought our team leader a wolf fleece as a joke. It was left behind in the office!

merlotgran Wed 21-Oct-20 12:15:26

or Bon Marche or Cotton Traders

I have seven pairs of jeans and one pair of stretch cords.

All from Bon Marché and Cotton Traders. blush

PollyDolly Wed 21-Oct-20 12:12:52

Slightly off-topic but relevant no less; what had Pru Leith got hanging around her neck on GBBO last night? They looked like some pelvic floor correction device! ??

Missiseff Wed 21-Oct-20 12:09:59

Leggings

Riggie Wed 21-Oct-20 12:04:25

Frills and flounces. I'm also not a huge fan of "busy prints" - many of my clothes are solid colour or something like a stripe or dot.

I have worn crocs....on the beach but wouldnt wear then anywhere else
