Where have they all gone?

I was looking up the name of an author Jojo Moyles to decide if I would like her books and found that there had been a thread about her in 2015.

I only recognised about 3 members who are still here today Soop Lemongrove and AuntieFlo and I just felt sad that all the others had dropped away for some reason or another.

Sadly Marydoll this is always a possibility, especially this year sad

Gosh, I have a post on the 2015 thread using a very poor choice of name for me. I don’t know what I was thinking of then. My present user name is much more suitable.

I joined Gransnet by accident.
I googled "Does Anita Manning wear a wig" and found out the answer on here.
In case you are reading this ,Anita ,I love your clothes and am envious of your tidy hair.
Why do people change their nom de plumes?
I was on a BBC website connected with"The Archers" (before the BBC decided that the pittance it cost them compared with the amount they were paying out in "Celebrities" salaries was a cost too far in spite of the letters ,emails etc we bombarded them with) and folk often changed their names but it was obvious when they did so.
Mind you there were fewer posters on that site than this.
I like tge way one can deny private messages.
I had two recently who recognised where I went to school from the motto"Swift and Sure" which was lovely .
Many thanks.

Sorry about typing errors .
Should have checked

I like the way one can send (not deny !! )private messages.

Parsley3 Sun 25-Oct-20 11:41:52

Lancslass I changed my name because I left and came back.

Callistemon Sun 25-Oct-20 11:44:32

There was an Archers thread, Lancslass
I'm not sure if there still is (or even if there is an Archers!).

Lilypops Sun 25-Oct-20 12:33:57

How would I search for past posters , I can’t see a search button on here please ?

Kandinsky Sun 25-Oct-20 12:38:26

This thread is a bit creepy / stalkerish.
Why would anyone care if someone changes their username?

Buttonjugs Sun 25-Oct-20 12:43:19

@Kadinsky It’s creepy/stalkerish to be interested in people??

Kalu Sun 25-Oct-20 12:47:09

I joined GN in 2011 when we still had profiles and occasionally, a photograph, whenever we joined but this was stopped for security reasons.

I had to change my username as one particular post from someone unknown joined the thread, misread my name and persued who she thought was A’N’gus and very keen to hook up?

I miss posts from JaneRowena and Tegan. I also remember Jura vehemently stating she was leaving GN for good this time. The saddest post was from OldGaijin posting to say goodbye. Not long after, her daughter posted to say she had died.

I am pretty slow at picking up on some writing styles and rely on others to point out who is now who.

Charleygirl5 Sun 25-Oct-20 12:53:24

Kalu I agree it is so kind when we are informed by a family member when somebody like old Gaijin had died.

TerriBull Sun 25-Oct-20 13:00:22

I hope Gillybob is ok, she had a tsunami of problems to deal with and her husband was quite ill I believe. I wish her well and hope she returns. Also hope POGS is alright, she popped back recently and made a few posts and then disappeared again, I think she was a good contributor.

Grandad, what happened to him? he could be quite interesting at times when he wasn't banging on about his strange preoccupation with misandry.

kittylester Sun 25-Oct-20 13:01:49

shysal

Sorry, I meant Me Before You is good. After You is the sequel and not so good.

I'm here Kate.

I love all Jojo Moyes apart from the ones mentioned by shysal and the 3rd one is even worse imo.

LauraNorder Sun 25-Oct-20 13:13:04

I liked Me Before You. I do enjoy a book that pulls at the emotions whether tears or laughter.
On the subject of name change I was Peardrop50, I received a nasty pm and left but then decided I had been a total
wimp. I wasn’t able to come back with the same name so picked my current name as more appropriate to me. I won’t leave again as it takes time to build up friendships which may be lost by name change. Also I want to discourage posters from leaving if other posters seem to be personally nasty because they are very much a minority and easily diluted by the very many lovely posters.

Eloethan Sun 25-Oct-20 13:38:03

Gabrielle might not have directed sharp remarks to Gransnetters but she certainly made some very sweeping and unpleasant remarks about other groups of people. I don't miss her.

Callistemon (11:44. am)
The Archers is on radio 4 Mon- Thurs at 7pm and there is an omnibus at 11am on a Sunday.
When the BBC closed our blog, a clever lady in the USA opened another one.
It is called.
Archersfan.blogspot.com
When she was unable to carry on with the organisation of it ,a Scottish gentleman stepped in.
We have two threads
One is for anything connected with the programme and the other is about anything else someone may wish to mention.
It is very friendly .
Some of us have met up and closer friendships have been formed.
The first meeting was under the clock at Waterloo.
Newcomers are of course welcome.
My nom de plume is fairly similar to the one I have here.

FannyCornforth Sun 25-Oct-20 13:53:31

LancsLass Please tell me whether Anita Manning wears a wig.
I need to know. I must have
been wondering for over a decade now.
My money's on yes.
Thank you in advance! smile

Lancslass1 Sun 25-Oct-20 14:01:55

Fanny,I met someone who knows Anita and apparently she doesn't!
She must use a lot of hair spray if not .

Kalu Sun 25-Oct-20 14:02:23

I have met Anita Manning a few times at her auctions rooms in Glasgow. She definitely does not wear a wig?. A lovely friendly lady with a great sense of humour.

FannyCornforth Sun 25-Oct-20 14:04:35

Blimey! Her hair is beautiful!
Lucky lady.
Thank you, I'm strangely delighted that it's real.

FannyCornforth Sun 25-Oct-20 14:06:50

Yes, she does come across very well.
She is a TV natural - not many of them about (as a couple of recent threads will confirm!)

NanKate Sun 25-Oct-20 15:34:43

Hi Kitty. Going to dive in and read Jojo Moyes book and report back. ??

janeainsworth Sun 25-Oct-20 15:39:09

Suzie It wasn't her political views - it was her sheer nastiness towards certain women based on their looks

Agree, I was on the receiving end once shockhmmgrin

Callistemon Sun 25-Oct-20 15:48:18

Lancslass I'd have about 30 years of catching up to do; but I do remember seeing an Archers thread on here.
The tune, however, will be forever imprinted on my brain.
My Mum was a great fan and also listened to Mrs Dale's Diary.

Mamie Sun 25-Oct-20 16:26:52

I have been here since the beginning but don't post very often these days. I miss Anya and JessM.
