Lack of spatial awareness.

Some people just don't have it. I had a colleague who constantly walked me off pavements or into lamp posts. She just didn't seem to be aware of the space she was taking up or of where other people are in relation to her.

Lack of consideration I'd call it.

I have no problem in shops with a hard stare, saying ‘2 metres please’.

I too have this due to an ear problem, I often walk into the side of the doors frames!
I think it’s a lack of thought in supermarkets though we are busy looking for something and after 50 years of being close to other shoppers we now have to stop and think, or not, as it seems to be lately.

I have problems with spatial awareness and coordination due to a congenital inner ear problem.
What you are describing OP is just a problem with awareness in general.

Thats interesting, I wonder if its something to do with loss of hearing as we get older.
I've noticed more recently that my OH has this. It's become obvious that I'm having to negotiate routes around his bulk more often.

Whereas I would hear him enter a room and make space or move aside, he doesn't appear to have that awareness anymore since his hearing has deteriorated. Quite often when I'm working / flitting about, I'll have to ask him to move or sit down.....Oh the joys

I had alarm bells ringing in my head once. This bloke who fancied me was standing too close... as I was backing off, he was moving closer. So I asked him what aftershave he was wearing? When he told me I said "I'm sure you're lovely, but Christ! that smell! Bloody vomit-inducing! " and waved with my hands to shoo him away.

kircubbin2000 I see examples of what you’ve described on every shopping trip. Personally, I think it’s less to do with spatial awareness and more that some folk are just plain rude and ignorant.
