Just had a notification from Sainsbury's about today's delivery.

They can't deliver our PG Tips or my wine!! The end of the world is obviously nigh!:grin

Nannan2 the computer set up for 'picking' is by word association South sees bkmbe and suggests Bath bomb. But the pickers do not have to use the suggestion but can use their common sense as my grandson says. When you think about it if you are in the ice cream section it makes no sense to trundle all the way to the person hygiene section to pick up a bath bomb. Especially as they are on a time limit and have a picking rate to stick to. But I suppose some people don't possess much common sense and work like an automaton.

My Tesco order is due later today. I have no email confirming any changes (which Sainsburys do) but whilst updating the order earlier in the week there were lots of things I couldn't order as out of stock. Some people are definitely stockpiling.

My local Sainsburys has plenty of toilet paper - they have a big stand near the entrance which usually has special offers full of toilet paper!

Chumbawamba - Tubthumping
He drinks a whiskey drink
He drinks a vodka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him of the best times

Did they foresee the pandemic?

Nanan2 What is leftover wine? We have never had such a thing in my home.

WOODMOUSE49 Thu 05-Nov-20 14:36:13

Checked my Sainsbury's order for tomorrow and all looks OK. Wine on its way plus food of course.

Sheilasue Thu 05-Nov-20 14:18:29

Oh no what a dilemma. We are doomed.
No wine no tea boo hoo.

DanniRae Thu 05-Nov-20 14:17:41

MaggieMay69 - You aren't the only one who has no interest in wine. The only way I drink it is with lemonade. I just don't get what people see in it. My favourite drinks are Whisky and Diet Coke or Southern Comfort and Lemonade.........but to be honest I have no idea when I last had an alcoholic drink. Maybe 22 July on my daughter's birthday!

Are you not offered substitutes? You don’t have to accept them.
I breathed a sigh of relief this morning when my Ocado order arrived with no missing items and no substitutes. I wonder how long that will last?

MamaCaz Thu 05-Nov-20 14:10:45

I'm glad my Tesco Christmas wine stock arrived safely yesterday grin

Back in the first lockdown, when I was only having one delivery a fortnight, I was badly caught out one time when not a drop of the milk I had ordered was available (I was freezing half the milk so it would last the two weeks), and even though I allow substitutions, they brought no alternative!
Very fortunately, DS1 was able to get some for us and leave it at our door.

Nice one C21 .?

cornishpatsy Thu 05-Nov-20 13:33:34

I could not get my usual PG Tips so bought PG Tips gold, a little dearer but only works out an extra couple of pounds a month. I will not go back to the ordinary one now, what a difference.

Makes me wonder about other brands that I have stuck to for years assuming I like those best.

Bakingmad0203 Thu 05-Nov-20 13:12:27

My DH makes his own wine from the fruit we ( I) have grown in the garden. Only trouble is it won’t be ready for 12 months as it has to “mature”

kittylester Thu 05-Nov-20 12:59:53

There is no point suggesting places with 'good' wine. My wine of choice is Sainsbury's own Reisling at £5.25 a bottle. It fairly sweet. They have substituted it previously for the next one up, as it were, but I find that too dry. That's why I ask for no subs.

The best place for tea and coffee is J Atkinson of China Street, Lancaster. They do mail order but if you can get to the shop that is an amazing experience. The basic Lancaster Blend, which <cough> has to beat anything from beyond the Pennines, is £7.50 for 250g which is more than PG Tips but this is quality! Alternatively they will do you Silver Needles, a white tea, for £12.00. For 50g. That's £240 a kilo.

For wine what you need is the Wine Society. It's a members club not a subscription service so you have to pay a membership fee, £40 I think, to join but once you're in you get half of that back of your first order and there are no obligations to buy a whole case, or even at all. The Society's Prosecco at £9.50 a bottle? They don't mind if you just order one bottle. A nice bottle of Domaine Denis Mortet Mazis Chambertin GC 2015 to go with the turkey? a snip at £595!

On the other hand, Aldi do a lovely Crémant du Jura, as good as any prosecco.

Lol and yet again, the only one here who hates wine, think its horrible...and the more expensive it is, the worse it tastes lol. And I went and won a years worth of free wine a few years back too!
No, give me a bottle of advocaat for snowballs or whisky to make an irish coffee, and I'm your gal lol. Caramel rum is also lovely in me coffee!
ooh and best substitute for my daughter was when she had ordered some workbooks or, writing pads, for school, and got sanitary pads.
Not that easy to write on apparently....lol

DanniRae Thu 05-Nov-20 12:31:16

Oh dear! We are going to pick up our first Sainsburys click and collect order tomorrow.
I was not offered the 'no substitution' choice so I am now dreading what I will be given! shock

BTW - we only have Sainsburys Red Label tea bags - I hope they haven't run out of them?

sparklingsilver28 Thu 05-Nov-20 12:28:05

Try M&S Earl Grey with a dash of edible lavender oil - reviving and much better than any wine/alcohol.

Awesomegranny Thu 05-Nov-20 12:26:50

Drink Gin

Forestflame Thu 05-Nov-20 12:20:09

May I suggest ( for those of you with a local store) that you contact your local Co-op. Our local branches have a home delivery service. You ring up the store, speak to a real person and give them your order. This includes alcohol. They pick the order, ring you back and take payment over the phone. They should tell you if they are out of anything so no nasty surprises. They will also deliver.

Philreed Thu 05-Nov-20 12:18:56

I ordered a beer 6-pack which they substituted for a 15-pack, same price. Should I complain? ?

sodapop Thu 05-Nov-20 12:11:47

Seems like there are advantages to not having home deliveries available here. We can still do our own picking.

foxyrunning Thu 05-Nov-20 12:10:06

Waitrose have 25% off wine at the moment smile

nipsmum Thu 05-Nov-20 11:55:49

I always get my delivery from Tesco. Just once during lockdown, they substituted Tena pads and sent me mouthwash instead. It certainly got me laughing, when the delivery driver told me, he was young and asked what Tena pads were. When I told him lady things he was a bit speechless, bless him.
