Harry laying a wreath.

I read he asked for a representative to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph, but courtiers refused, as he is no longer a representative of the RF.
It was said the Queen wasn't informed.

I do feel sorry for him. Even though he must have given the choice he made considerable thought beforehand.

Does anyone know if perhaps he made a symbolic 'wreath laying' on line?

Obviously thats about all he could do given Coronavirus and his new life!

Are we to assume that tonight we are witnessing the beginning of a new era, and that those who have condemned some of the critical comments made, will be practicing what they preach, before being derisory about those in the Public Eye whose actions and words do not coincide with their personal opinions. I do hope so, else they might be regarded as somewhat hypocritical.

I've been back over this thread and the only unpleasant words I can find are those used by posters who don't like others criticising Harry and Meghan.
"bashing" "slamming" "digging" are all rather exaggerated words to describe people's observations and opinions on Harry and Meghan's actions.

Yep. You do it all the time on the political threads.

No comparison whatsoever I am afraid. This is pure speculation on the feelings of a mother towards the partner chosen by one of her sons. The other is about facts as they happen, and the real consequences as seen and reported by experts.

Ellianne Mon 09-Nov-20 22:20:29

No No you're not horribly cynical Nottooold, you were just asking questions and trying to fathom it all out. It was when you mentioned his son Archie that I felt I should add he probably loves her to bits for being the mother of his son.
Hang in there, this lockdown won't last forever, neither will the virus.

Ellianne

It is just possible he loves her to bits NotTooold.
I guess only time will tell.

You are right, of course, Elliane. I am becoming horribly cynical. The lockdown is doing me no good at all.

What you mean is that those who don’t like the Meghan/harry hate fest are spoiling it for you which seems equally high horsed to me

Nope....I couldn’t care less, but think it’s a shame that you and others can’t just state your views about Meghan and Harry doing ( whatever it is they’re doing) without calling other comments ‘nasty’ or anything else.

Shrub

Veteran’s Day in the USA is a Federal holiday on 11th Nov.

Thanks Shrub

There will be services of commemoration here on 11th November too, Remembrance Day also known as Armistice Day.

The Archbishop of Westminster proposed that the second Sunday in November should be named Remembrance Sunday in commemoration of both World Wars, a suggestion which was endorsed by the Home Office in January 1946. In June of that year, the prime minister, Clement Attlee, announced in the House of Commons that "the Government felt that this view would commend itself to all quarters of the country. I am glad to say that it has now found general acceptance here and has been approved by The King.

If Harry was allowed to lay a wreath because he had served in
the armed forces why not Simon Weston ?

NotSpaghetti Mon 09-Nov-20 21:32:59

Exactly, that's what I thought.

Lucca Mon 09-Nov-20 21:32:40

My last comment addressed to lemon grove sorry forgot to say

Anniebach Mon 09-Nov-20 21:18:50

NotSpaghetti if Harry could lay a wreath because he served
in the armed forces so could every one who had served.

Seems he thought he could do things his way when he chose
to. Doesn’t work that way.

NotSpaghetti Mon 09-Nov-20 21:13:26

Thanks Anniebach I did think that was the case.
I'd assdumed that's why Prince Harry couldn't have someone lay a wreath on his behalf.
...I can see that must have been a bit of a wrench though.

Anniebach Mon 09-Nov-20 21:06:25

The royal family do not place wreaths because they have served in the armed forces, they lay wreaths representing
battalions etc, they hold military appointments, Anne didn’t
serve in the armed forces but she holds military appointments as does Edward.

Harry resigned from his military appointments

What a load of high horse rhetoric from some GNers.
Some of us think that it was a typical photo shoot opportunity from the former royals......some think it perfectly fine and dandy of the former royals. So far so good,
It’s our own opinion after all. What spoils this is the way that the high horse brigade lambast others for their views.
Harry and Meghan are attention seekers par excellence.....the very last thing they want is ‘a quiet life’.

Alegrias2 Mon 09-Nov-20 20:52:10

How interesting that we have 5 pages on a posh bloke and his American wife, but only 2 on a potentially life changing vaccine for Coronavirus.

Just saying.

biba70 Mon 09-Nov-20 20:44:10

wow- talk about speculation.

merlotgran Mon 09-Nov-20 20:41:40

biba, Harry's emotional state and mental health issues are a result of his mother's death. Had she lived I doubt he would have been attracted to Meghan and quite honestly, I think Diana would have disliked her.

Lucca Mon 09-Nov-20 20:41:22

“ Nobody's being nasty. ”
Comments about Meghan putting her hand on Harry’s back like he’s a four year old/ comments about her heels/accusing them if using it as a photo opportunity.. none of that una nasty ? Wow I’d hate to be there when those posters really are being nasty!

^Some of you are so nasty. I do wonder what his mother would think of you if she read your comments^

If Diana were able to read these comments, she would still be alive and Harry would definitely still be a senior member of the Royal Family. hmm

Do you truly think that Diana would have stopped Harry marrying Meghan?

Ellianne Mon 09-Nov-20 20:00:15

Do you have to beservingin some capacity?
They have to be representatives of The Crown, so yes "serving" in all manner of ways.

merlotgran Mon 09-Nov-20 19:56:54

Covid would prevent Harry being at the cenotaph this year but I don't see why he shouldn't be there in future years.

Part of the 'Megxit' deal was that Harry would sever his links with his military connections, apart from the Invictus Games.

If he attends in future years it will be in a reduced capacity.

Nobody's being nasty. What has happened was his choice.

NotSpaghetti Mon 09-Nov-20 19:56:03

Good point Greyduster. I'd rather never see Andrew again but, you're correct about Edward
Covid would prevent Harry being at the cenotaph this year but I don't see why he shouldn't be there in future years.

Maybe in future years, if present, he will be able to do this. I don't know what the rules are for wreath-laying...
Do you have to be serving in some capacity?
