Good Morning everyone. Warm, bright but overcast at the moment in deepest Southern France. Friday 13th in 2020? Ye Gods, hope that won’t take on an Ides of March quality. It does sound for many of us that we’ve already quite enough to put up with, thanks very much.

Maybe a Friday (afternoon?) sit-down is best....certainly will give us less far to fall and after the week that some of us have had, why ever not!

Mellow so glad you stayed, and Ellan if you care about us, take no risks, please keep it ?. This thread is growing, we don’t want anything more to spoil our good mornings.

Harrigran warm wishes to you both, try to rest and get stronger - both of you. Hope this will be a good weekend, Cherry and your bruises have gone. Bellasnanna please don’t apologise for the length of your post - or I shall be the first for the chop?. Nortsat your Ollie doesn’t need words - he was speaking for so many! Hope he’s recovered.

I’m going to say this for all of our lovely group to hear Mary , because it’s often quite alarming to read your news. Firstly, do hope you feel less unwell today. Secondly, thirdly and on and on : will you please try to step away from the big girl pants and not wear them ‘til they’re shabby, trying to change the behaviour of some who haunt the Forum in order to inflict their nasty characters on others.

Your bravery and stoicism and common sense and humour is totally wasted engaging in comments around those who just want to bring you down. Avoid at all costs. Don’t post, don’t comment, don’t waste a moment of your life. There are those who wear their bitterness, envy, resentment, jealousy, spite, (and how that steers their lives) like a badge. We can all see it. But I would imagine that if you had the choice now of going off to have coffee with all of us on this thread (hopefully, me included) or sitting in a room with those who can’t wait to “trip you up”, browbeat, ridicule or goad you - well, you’d choose the non-combative option, wouldn’t you.

Of course you’re allowed to get those pants on to deal with close friends or family and things close to home that require some adjustments. Just leave those who want to bring you down and who care about nothing except scoring petty points - or getting you shut down - to seek out other targets. As soon as you care less, you hurt less. They’ve not won, you’ve just risen above it and stepped away. Your health, your rest, your peace of mind is worth everything. Don’t be sad...you couldn’t get more hugged, so have a cheery day on that score. x

To all who are struggling and those with sadness or worries and fears; and to those who are just sick of these trying times, just keep on going. It will change and get better. We don’t know when but in bad times remember we all have each other....on the end of a phone, a text, a mail, a post, a letter, a personal mail. If all else fails, smoke ? signals might be enough.

Enjoy a Sitdown Friday, maybe? Stay Safe!
Hugs from French France ??‍♀️?

Good Morning All x I think flowers are in order today.
Brightening up here on the Costa Mersey so a quick dart to the local shops after, then another day of staying put as so many are falling foul of this virus in our neck of the woods.

I felt for your " lonely lady " Urmston, a sad situation indeed. Things will be, and will feel very strange for her for a while.

I didn't see what had happened with Marydoll but I feel so sorry that she had to endure such nastiness in these times also exacerbated by her poor health which doesn't do anyone any good. May this day be a better one x

You're doing well Dragonfly, half way through already, well done you. x
Hope the day is a calm one for the Harrigrans after a bumpy night. I imagine there's been quite a few disturbed nights so far this year. Always the worst time.

I must ring D up today to see how things are in their household. It's a week since I saw her and everyone was fine. I felt quite proud of my oldest GGS at school when a pupil approached him in the playground in fighting mood and my GGS turned his back and walked away. The headmaster who'd known about it commended him. He's 14 and learning fast.

I've just had two " odd " phonecalls---recorded and I took the number 08016980773. Something or other is " going to be cut off ", press 1 etc and follow the yellow brick road grin No chance. They've picked the wrong one here !

Well I hope everyone's day goes well so stay safe xx
flowers to those who need a lift, Gilly too.

Friday 13th is lucky in our house ?. One of our dear AC was born on Friday 13th and GrandpaGravy and I got married on Friday 13th.

Good morning Mick and all from dry breezy Anglesey. In a hurry as I have an appointment but wanted to be part of the big group hug surrounding Marydoll.
Please all you good kind people who even think of leaving GN. I beg you not to. Where would GN be if only the grumpy were left.
Bad things happen when good people do nothing. Leaving sort of equates to doing nothing. Killing with kindness works better, and all on this lovely thread are capable of killing off the negativity and nastiness.
Hoping that our two gentle posters from yesterday come back soon.
Oops I’ve rambled as usual, going to be late. Have a good day all

MellowYellow Fri 13-Nov-20 09:45:39

Oh Greyduster that's funny!

Blossoming Fri 13-Nov-20 09:36:17

Good morning all, just a quick visit as I have a busy day ahead.

MawB2 Fri 13-Nov-20 09:31:20

Good morning all from N Bucks where it is brightening up nicely. DGS Toby’s 9th birthday today which brings back happy memories of my mercy dash to Birmingham 9 years ago to look after DGS1 . How I held it together on the M1 and 6 I don’t know!
I am sorry so many of you are in pain or distress - too many to mention individually but a big ????to Nortsat’s cat who is clearly a feline with exceedingly good taste!
Wishing you all a pleasant Friday and relief from all that is making you sad.

Greyduster Fri 13-Nov-20 09:30:22

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. The sun is shining in South Yorkshire this morning. A horrible day was forecast, so we’ll see. I think it’s lovely when little ones latch onto a word they’ve heard or learned. When GS had just started school, I asked him to close the car door quietly when he got out one day because my neighbour’s daughter, a nurse, was on night shift and sleeping. He said “Is that because she’s nocturnal, Nanny?”
We did a late shop at Aldi last night - very quiet - and while I was putting the shopping away I dropped a two litre carton of milk, which split open and went all over the kitchen floor and all the cupboards, which had only been cleaned earlier in the day. It will need some intensive attention this morning, first job of the day, because it smells, despite an initial mop up. But another cup of coffee first! Have a good safe day, folks.

Marydoll Fri 13-Nov-20 09:27:01

Spangler, I know that phrase very well. Thank you.
I did enjoy our banter over the grammar!

^Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow. I've been awake for hours, all sorts of things going through my head.

I didn't have a good day yesterday, physically or mentally, due to a certain poster trying to trip me up in my posts. again. Its making me very wary of what I post and has sucked the joy from GN for me.
So much upset here at the moment, with two members leaving GN yesterday. ?
Usually, I can rise above it, but I'm finding it so hard at the moment.^

Oh Marydoll, your posts are brilliant, put on the schoolteacher face, strike a silent glare, melt a polar ice cap.
There's a non-sensible latin quote, it doesn't take much to work out: Illegitimi non Carborundum.

Annapops Fri 13-Nov-20 09:22:24

Good morning all from County Durham. Looks like we've had heavy rain overnight but brightening now.

Yesterday saw me in Sainsburys, drawn in of course by their Nectar double up promotion. Car park wasn't too full, so fingers crossed all should be well. However, having been lucky enough to shop online since March I was not prepared for some of the shoppers who pass too close, hover next to you or even reach across as you browse. Personally I think shame on Sainsburys for encouraging folk to shop for non essential items (yes, I know I was one of them) during a pandemic. Double up vouchers could of course only be used for non food and as there is little information online regarding non essential items, other than clothing, you end up spending longer in the store than one normally would. Well that's my rant for the day over!

Yes harrigran, what an exceptional photographer Dean Matthews was. So sad that such a young man has been taken too soon due to covid. I've attached one of my favourite photos taken by him. He's really captured the power of the waves lashing over the pier so well.

Sad to hear about your upset yesterday Marydoll. How can some people behave in such an unpleasant way? You can clearly see all they want to do is provoke and stir. I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts so don't you consider leaving GN for one minute.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Marydoll Fri 13-Nov-20 09:19:39

It was called, Genius Square, Dragonfly. I bought it as a gift for DD and SIL, who love board games.

dragonfly46 Fri 13-Nov-20 09:16:25

What game was that Marydoll I must have missed it.

Namsnanny Fri 13-Nov-20 09:15:46

Good morning all. Wet underfoot, but not raining.
Have a good day.

Urmstongran Fri 13-Nov-20 08:59:55

Gosh Spangler ... There's a special word for the fear of Friday 13th - paraskevidekatriaphobia. Not a hope from me - I got lost halfway along that word! It even looks & sounds like Russian to me.

Good morning from a very rainy Shropshire.

Today is our day for looking after DGS then school pick up for DGD later. It will be my first time out the house since last childcare day!

My DGD’s word of the moment is literally.Like Mellow’s DGD with basically.Grandma I was literally first in my class then at home time mummy was the first mummy so I was literally first out too?

Sorry you are upset Mary.I tend to stick to the good morning thread and soops kitchen.I will occasionally post on other threads but not very often these days.

Good news Fanny that your DH is on the mend.

Cherry, hope you are feeling brighter today?☀️

Thinking of gilly and all with illness and worries.

Gelisajams Fri 13-Nov-20 08:55:21

Good morning from Morecambe Bay where it is now drying up, so we will walk shortly and then do some exercise.
Some years ago we bought our suite from a well known sofa company. We only bought one chair as the room was quite small. However there’s room for another chair in this house and DH thought of getting another.
I looked it up on their website and the same suite is still in production but the colour of ours was not on the list. I phoned and got a helpful understanding lady who would get a salesman“who would know” to ring me back. He rang back ten minutes later having found our original order and said we had originally upgraded the leather and yes our colour was still available with the upgrade. He said to avoid confusion they don’t list all options on the website.
A new chair is now heading our way.
It’s all ended up more expensive than we thought, especially with the £70 ´delivery and installation’ charge. At least we can pay it over 3 years!
For all posters with problems of one sort or another, and especially Marydoll?
Take care and stay safe everyone ?

Anniebach Fri 13-Nov-20 08:54:58

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Marydoll Fri 13-Nov-20 08:48:30

Well I'm back my dear friends to apologise for dragging this lovely thread down and to thank you all for your kind words The particular problem I mentioned has been going on for some time, but it just got to me yesterday. The anxiety caused a major angina attack, which scared the life out of me! Silly to let it affect me like that. Anyway, I'm still here, so that's a relief.
My ongoing shielding and some family problems also haven't helped, some of my resilience seems to have disappeared recently.
Time to get my big girl's pants back on!

So now for some good news! After being on the Tesco website from 6.45 until now, I have secured a Christmas delivery slot. I can't be near people and DH is supposed to not go shopping either to keep me safe! Poor DH was drafted in to sit at my PC until I got washed and dressed, in case I missed getting a slot.Result and great relief!
The only problem is, there is no empty today. The golf has been cancelled, since my friend's son is moving house today and her husband, my husband's golfing partner is obviously helping out.

Second piece of good news. My son and his fiancée successfully moved into their 110 year old cottage yesterday, without much fuss. We were so worried that Nicola S was going to put us in total lockdown this week. However, I think we are very close to it happening.
I'm actually quite envious of the house, as it has a little burn running through the bottom of the garden. I like quirky things, just like myself. grin
My son's fiancée used to work for JL and her job was setting up their new stores, so the move was done with military precision, nothing left to chance.
Thank goodness, as like many clever people, my son does not have one ounce of common sense! grin She is very good for him.

Ashcombe, there must be a thing about doublers just now. I ordered a game, recommended by Kitty for a Christmas present, two were delivered, but only one was charged.
I don't know how I can return it, as I'm not allowed out to the Post Office.! ?

Keep safe and well all!

GrannySomerset Fri 13-Nov-20 08:47:02

Friday the 13th - should we just stay in bed and wait for it to be tomorrow? Despite a fine start to the day I am not optimistic. Tesco run - highlight of the week again - and the inevitable ironing, which I swear breeds in the basket, but that’s about it.

Horrified that Marydoll has been hurt; there are some very spiteful posters who should be ignored. Great that Ellan is back, though, we need brave and positive people like these two in these taxing times. I have learned not even to read what certain posters say because it so rarely adds anything constructive to the discussion.

Nortsat Fri 13-Nov-20 08:42:23

Good morning Mick and the GM team from a currently sunny east London.

I am sorry that you were upset Marydoll. The flowers are for you.
I am aware that certain foolish posters try to goad and are quite vindictive. I have been on the receiving end myself and I now absolutely ignore anything that certain people are involved in. It’s tiresome but it keeps me out of trouble and limits my upset.

I have another telephone consultation with Barts Hospital today. I shall be pleased when it’s over.

I referred to this on another thread, but it bears repeating. I am reading Mary Trump’s book ‘Too Much and Never Enough’, though it is taking some time, as I can only take it in short bursts. Our cat Ollie, has had a tummy upset and yesterday I discovered he had been sick, all over the photo of Donald Trump, on the cover of the book. (Sorry team, I know that’s juvenile).

Thinking of those who are facing challenges today.
Good morning EllanVanin.
Good morning Gillybob.
Wonderful news about MrC’s recovery from Covid and pneumonia. Hope his progress continues Fanny and you soon have him home.
Have a good day, all ?

Dwmxwg Fri 13-Nov-20 08:42:21

Mellow my 6 year old grandsons favourite word is basically ?

Dwmxwg Fri 13-Nov-20 08:39:52

Good morning from a dry (at the moment) north Surrey.
NanKate I think your idea of a GM group hug is just what we all need.p at the moment.
Was up early to DGSs off to school. Please with myself as I have already cleaned the the bathroom which they manage to turn into a bomb site during their 2 night stay.
Waited in all day yesterday for a parcel which did not arrive, have had another text to say it is coming this morning.
Have a walk planned with DS’s partner and the DGDs this afternoon. Will be good to catch up and see how the baby has grown and changed in a week. Can’t wait to have a cuddle when lockdown ends
Sending peaceful, positive thoughts to all on this lovely thread

Oldbutstilluseful Fri 13-Nov-20 08:39:39

Good morning from a dull, grey N Hants. Grandmabatty your comment about the glums took me right back to my childhood, listening to the Glums with Ron and Eth. Such innocent times.

Marydoll I also followed that thread and thought it most unnecessary for posters to be so unkind. I’m so sorry it caused you so much upset. I just wish the two who left find it in themselves to return.

Nothing planned for today, so no change there!

Wishing a better day to everyone, I think we all need it ?

MellowYellow Fri 13-Nov-20 08:33:38

Hello everyone from a bright, breezy south Cornwall. Marydoll, I'm sorry for you. Just look at your three twigs and think of the bumper apple and pear harvest you (and I) will have next year! NanKate that made me smile. My grandson, aged 10, said to me (when I made up a simple poem as he was leaving one day), 'No Nana, that's not a poem, it's an alliteration.' I stood corrected, though it was gentle not arrogant. And my 5 year old granddaughter has discovered the word 'basically'. 'Well Nana, basically I go to school...' Ha ha ha.

Regarding the nastiness elsewhere on GN I nearly didn't return when I lost my phone recently because previously I'd been shocked at some of the retorts. And also I don't like the policing. But I love this thread, thank you Mick.

Chin up everyone. Actually I'm gradually getting more than one chin, oh dear..........
