The more tenuous and obscure the better!
My aunty went out with the bloke who designed * both*
A) the Cadbury's Chocolate Orange packaging, and
B) Buzby, the British Telecom mascot

When I won the competition to sit on stage with The Beatles, my name was picked at random and I was asked if I would be a Go-go dancer on the show (Thank Your Lucky Stars). Timid, no confidence me said no. Another missed opportunity.

Peggy Spencer (of the original Come Dancing show ) taught me and my husband to dance, after she retired to Norfolk. She was a lovely lady and without her there would be no Strictly Come Dancing. We were so very lucky to have her teach us.

I had to explain to Phil the Greek how I typeset and designed books for IUCN, including The Red List of Threatened Animals, which is often referred to on TV and Radio 4. My husband's band was on the same bill as Des O'Conner and saw Clodough Rogers in her knickers!

When I was about 14, my friends and I were allowed to go backstage and obtain autographs, While people such as Eric Clapton were signing my autograph book, I used to pull a strand of their hair out. Then I would sellotape the strand of hair next to the autograph. They obviously weren't very pleased! I sold that autograph book about 10 years ago on ebay for £700!!

Knew Robert Powell when he was a young actor . He was very nice. Also Clive Russell and later taught his daughter who, aged 7, was impressed that he knew me.

When dd2 was about 10 and dd1 was off on a school trip somewhere, we took dd2 and a school friend to Cornwall for a half term break.

On the first evening in their shared room, they were apparently making a lot of noise bouncing on the beds, etc. and the people next door asked whether they could please pipe down a bit because - believe it or not! - it was a film crew and actors filming a scene for Neighbours!
Such excitement! Neighbours being the must-watch for that age at the time.

A school friend’s mother taught at a different local school where Mandy Rice Krispies (as we called her) was a pupil. She said she dyed her hair a different colour every week.

Might add that it was the very worst school of several - the one you were threatened with if you didn’t pay attention in lessons or failed to learn your spellings etc. (For the 11 plus.)

I have a photo of my son aged about 18 months being held in Barry Sheene’s arms.
We spent a bit of time with him and his wife? Girlfriend ? It was something to do with exH work.

When my daughter was a teenager a friend of hers had the same agent as Ant and Dec (when they were in Byker Grove). She was at the same party as them once and her friend was convinced Ant liked her as he went into the toilet to pass wind!!!

Forgive me for butting in but I think Maw said that she presented a bunch of flowers to Her Mag then DofE spoke to her.. OmaforMaya although I suppose I shouldn't amswer for her!

OmaforMaya Fri 20-Nov-20 14:07:27

MawBe

When I once presented a bouquet of flowers to HM , the Duke of Edinburgh addressed a couple of words to me when they visited our town.
In the words of the great Peter Sellers “I did not understand either of them”.?

I think you mean HRH Prince Philip...not HM. That title is reserved only for the Monarch.

We were upgraded on a Virgin overnight flight back from Barbados but were allocated seats several rows apart. I'd been given 1A. At the last minute as we were boarding we were swopped back to sitting together. I later found that in seat 1B was Gary Lineker. So I guess I could say I "almost" slept with G. Lineker.

I have been in a room with Bernard Manning, Queen Elizabeth and the son of author Alistair MacLean. Not at the same time however. grin

I regularly hold work meetings in a cafe frequented by Brian May and Anita Dobson.

John Bishop was the best man at my sister's wedding and is Godfather to my niece.

My ten year old grandson has attended functions at 10 Downing Street, Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

My brother-in-law and nephew sold and delivered furniture to the Beckhams.

I met footballer Ryan Giggs in prison! Absolutely true story!

We went to a garden party at the palace too narrowboatnan . We saw the Queen at close quarters. Lovely sandwiches and cakes!

Kate1949 Fri 20-Nov-20 13:35:57

These are brilliant - tenuous or non tenuous. I used to work with Joan Armatrading's sister. I took a photo of my sister having her book signed by Michael Caine. He seemed a nice chap.

When I was in my 20s I gave riding lessons to Dec McClusky’s (of The Batchelors - remember those?) two children and escorted Dec (first name terms, you’ll note!) on a horse ride around the woods and fields. His mum used to bring the children to the riding school, she was tiny and absolutely delightful.

I went to a garden party at Buckingham Palace and the Queen and The D of E passed by within inches of me.

Curtseyed and shook fingertips with The Queen at a charity do. Had a brief chat with Her Maj (well, she said ‘and what do you do?’ and I said ‘I run a club for people with learning disabilities’ and she said ‘oh, how lovely’ and moved on to the next person).

Said hello to Joan Morecombe (Eric’s widow) at a charity celebrity golf match. Also at the same do I smiled at Jasper Carrot and got talking to the actor who’d been the husband in the Bisto Gravy advert, the one who played opposite Linda Bellingham.

I've thought of another.

My dear late husband went to school in Greater London. One of the older kids came in and said that The Beatles were filming (either Help or A Hard Day's Night) in a playing field which belonged to the school. "Pull the other one, it's got bells on" was a popular retort at the time. No-one believed him so no-one went to look.

I was proposed to by a quite famous (in the industry) British orchestral conductor. He's dead now. He did conduct the last night of the proms once, the year after I turned him down.

I was in the same class at grammar school as Sally Burton who was married to Richard Burton.

Paul Martin (Flog It) once smiled at MY dog but don't think that beats Camilla

My Dad was driving down a lane in Surrey when he saw a group of people who seemed to be filming and he stopped to take a look. It turned out to be the actress Shirley Eaton (the one who was painted gold in the James Bond film Goldfinger), and Dad was star-struck to see her, and full of it when he came home - how lovely she was, etc. We heard all about her non-stop.

The next morning Dad asked if there was a shirt ironed for him, and quick as a flash Mum said "No, but perhaps Shirley Eaton would like to do it for you!"

Friend has a photo of her sat on a beach in Jersey, with all four Beatles, just before they became rather famous.

Saw Noel or Liam Gallagher walking through London.

Used to see and avoid Jimmy Saville around Otley and Roundhay Park in Leeds, usually surrounded by giggling girls.
