Good afternoon,

A late post from me. I’ve been busy doing not very much really, but suddenly realised I’ve not posted here. It’s a beautiful, bright, sunny but cold day today in South Yorkshire and if I can motivate myself, I will wrap up warmly and go for a walk. The problem is this cold weather sets my teeth on edge - sensitive gums I think, which makes them ache for some time, and it’s nigh on impossible to see a dentist at the moment. (My checkup was due next week but they cancelled it). I’ve got the toothpaste for sensitive teeth, but it doesn’t always work. I must make an effort though - I could wrap my scarf round my mouth, I suppose and see if that helps.

So pleased to read that your GD is making good progress, grandMattie She sounds a very brave little soul.

Gramaretto, lovely to see you posting today. I hope you can draw some comfort from this thread.

Well, I’d better stir my stumps and get on with a few things including the walk. Take care everyone and ?to all feeling sad, lonely or worried.

Good morning or should I now say afternoon? Lovely day here in the Scottish Borders but rather chilly. Bit of a boring day today I think for me which is very unusual.

CaroleAnne Tue 01-Dec-20 12:10:37

A late good morning to everyone from a bright but chilly Warminster.
GRANDMATTIE I am so glad that your grand daughters operation went well yestarday. She will soon be up and parading her knickers that you so cleverly altered to the envy of everyone.
GRAMARETTO My sincere condolences to you on the loss of your beloved DH. May the sun shine again soon for you.thanks
Enjoy the first day of december everyone and my thoughts go to those who have health problems and worries.

Sar53 Tue 01-Dec-20 12:10:37

Gingster it was Cherry Orchard Country Park, not far from the airport. We didn't even know it existed. Lots of open space to walk, a reasonable size car park but it was a bitter morning, we sat in the car with our coffee. It was good to find somewhere different, not too far away to go for a walk.

Kim19 Tue 01-Dec-20 12:10:18

A huge and warm welcome back to you Grammaretto. So kind of you to get back here so quickly. To share the 'peaceful' end with us was also extremely kind (and moving in a grateful sort of way). Would I expect any less than such kindness from you? Not at all. God bless you and yours.

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Dec-20 11:49:37

Quickly rushing in to say another very late 'Good morning' to Mick and all.
Just made it in before midday.
Haven't read all the messages yet, will go back and do so.
Glad to hear that Grammaretto has felt up to posting.
Hope that everyone has a peaceful December 1st.

Urmstongran Tue 01-Dec-20 11:49:00

Shout out to you cathymum it’s always nice to welcome newbies to Mick’s thread. Won’t be long before we get to ‘know’ you! (You too KentEssex if you are new as well?). We do however like to know the value of your house please (a la the Daily Mail).

A late morning all from South Notts where the sun is shining after the dismal dark clouds and rain of yesterday.

I'm continuing with the sock knitting although it doesn't look like progress as I decided to start again, I've completed about 4 inches of the calf, two more to go and than I start shaping. It's slow-going but I'll get there in the end.

Hope all is well with everyone, especially those with illness or worries. Stay cheerful, little Iris.

Hymnbook Tue 01-Dec-20 11:13:57

Morning everyone. I hope you are all keeping well. Waiting for my brother-in-law to call to help me take my new sideboard out of its box. Then l can hopefully unpack more stuff and get rid of some more boxes. I've been here a year on the 18th. Time flies. It's a beautiful morning here in Sherwood blue sky and sunshine ? different to yesterday's miserable day. Walking down one of the streets in Nottingham yesterday half the shops empty and up for sale or to let. So sad.

Gwenisgreat1 Tue 01-Dec-20 11:11:32

Good Morning all from Sunny, but chilly Harrogate.
Glad to hear your DGD has successfully got through the op, GrandMattie you'll be so relieved.Have another wash on - optimistic that it will partially dry. Had a lousy night last night, my skin has got very itchy and I just wanted to scratch my face off!!!
Nothing else planned, but chilling out.
Hugs for all who need them

Morning from S Lanarkshire, brightening up now. Glad to see the good news about Iris grandMattie, what a pretty name!
Going to do last orders for Christmas presents today and then I can move onto something else. I find it so difficult to keep loads of different stuff in my head now, I look back to looking after quite a big family and working and genuinely have no idea how I did it. Maybe it is why my mind is so scrambled now!
Kind thoughts to Grammaretto and good wishes to all

hollysteers Tue 01-Dec-20 10:46:46

Good morning from Sunnyside, but dark clouds afoot.
Cheerier today after nice meal here last night with daughter, feasting on lamb shanks and watching trash TV. Must delve into my underground bunker for Xmas stuff and wash my hair. I’ve been leaving it too long as nothing happening. I also have my £1 box of brown dye for my roots. Saved a fortune this year as followed a YouTube vid which shows how to colour your roots and keep your highlights! Not sure if I will be so regular at Ye Olde Hairdresser now I know this.
Thinking of you Grammaretto, many of us here sadly know
how hard it is.???

KentEssex Tue 01-Dec-20 10:25:12

Cold, but bright here in Billericay - pinch, punch, first day of the month! Let's hope we get through this Christmas month in a happy, healthful way!

Taichinan Tue 01-Dec-20 10:04:56

Good morning all. It's another sunnyish day on the Angus coast. Grammaretto lovely to see you back. As others have said, treat yourself kindly and take each day as it comes. My thoughts are with you ?. grandMattie so glad Iris's op went well and she's bouncing back. The magic button worked well for her too, bless her.

Loving the photos on here today, and your description of your Manchester sunrise, Urms, was very Spanish. But without the heat I guess. Glad to hear there's progress with your car, Ashcombe.

Marydoll it's lovely to hear you sounding much better. Love all your traditions. My DH and I went to the Edinburgh New Year in 1994 and loved it so much that we decided we would do it every year from then on, but sadly he died later that year and that never happened.

Greyduster you made me laugh out loud when I read about your dream! What a beauty!

I have no idea what I'm going to do today - something and nothing no doubt. I can't get into the Christmas mood at all this year, but I expect it will happen at some point. I'm usually frantically busy at this time of year, arranging the tai chi class drinks 'n nibbles parties and wondering how I'll get everything done in time for family get-togethers. Still, we're all in the same boat so I shouldn't whinge.

Enjoy the day everyone and if all else fails just smile your biggest smile anyway. ??

CherryCezzy Tue 01-Dec-20 09:53:44

Thank you Susan and Nortsat I slept pretty well ?

Auntieflo Tue 01-Dec-20 09:53:28

Good morning Mick, Annie, and all, feom a beautifully bright and sunny bit of Berks. I haven't poked my nose outside yet, but I expect it will be chilly!
I am so impressed by all those who have written and posted cards. I haven't bought any yet, but do have a dozen or so left from last year. I think it is also time to marzipan my cake. It has been well fed, now just to summon up enthusiasm enough to put it's undercoat on.
Yesterday I did two loads of washing and was hoping to get at least some of it dry outside, but it was so damp, then began raining, so I was met by the sight of two airers full this morning.
So glad to hear that Grandmattie's GD is recovering well.
Aren't the little ones great ?
Gramaretto, hugs to you and gently does it.
Also thinking of Scentia and her family.
I love the Matt cartoon MawBe. I think a lot of us feel that way.
Take it easy Marydoll, we did the same yesterday afternoon, short walk and snooze. Then the welcome cup of tea.
We may put up some lights today tchsmile. If we can summon up the energy.
Sending best wishes to all under the weather, and have a good day one and all.

CherryCezzy Tue 01-Dec-20 09:49:08

Good morning everyone. Cloudy but bright (iykwim) in the Gower this morning, chilly but it is December after all.

Off to brave the supermarket shortly. Hope my account can withstand it after the heist the optician pulled off yesterday ?.

Pantglas I'm wondering if that inn is the one I'm thinking it is ?. I guess if the oldest one in Wales it must be. I remember, oh eons ago now, going there and having a wonderful meal ?. There's a very old inn in Swansea of course, one I liked to visit in much younger days and one tiny one in the Gower too.

What a truly brave little soldier your DGD is grandMattie, I hope she's comfortable today.

Scentia a difficult day for you and your family ?

So good to see that you managed to post today Grammaretto. Take one day at a time flowers and a gentle hug from me.

Take care everyone, stay safe ❤️

Nortsat Tue 01-Dec-20 09:46:02

Good morning Mick and the GM team from ☀️ sunny east London.
I had a frustrating day yesterday trying to sort out returning on line purchases. I think when you’re not well a series of small frustrations seem to magnify and get out of proportion. My partner has worked hard this morning trying to help me be a bit more cheerful.

Lovely to see Grammaretto posting. ?
Such good news about your DGD Grandmattie ?
Hope Cherry had a good night.

I have had the Matt Hancock email about what to do next and to register for 3 months of vitamin D. I already take it on the advice of my ‘specialist nutritionist’, but have been experiencing difficulty getting hold of some. Thus I will gratefully accept the Health Secretary’s offer. ( I was going to add that I can’t think of anything else I am grateful to this Govt for ... but that would introduce politics to Mick’s lovely thread ... and I wouldn’t want to do that.).

This is my winter flowering jasmine, hopefully that will make us all smile. Have a good day, all. ?

annsixty Tue 01-Dec-20 09:41:45

Good morning all.
A much better day here, bright but lots of windscreen scraping earlier.
Oh the bliss of lying listening to it and knowing it doesn’t concern you.
Good news Grandmattie about Iris, what a little trooper she is.
You must all be very proud of her.

Grammaretto good that you can post, many of us know what you are experiencing and send you the very best wishes.
My H also died very peacefully and I have been grateful for that every day.

Parcel just delivered from M&S, one of the presents to myself.
Two new bras and two packs of knickers, I will now get to the excitement of opening them.

Have the best day you can everyone.

GrannyOwl5 Tue 01-Dec-20 09:35:31

Good morning everyone from north Kent where it is sunny, but breezy with a decided chill in the air.

Will spend most of the day putting up the Christmas lights outside but will wait a few days before putting decorations up in the house.

Glad brave little Iris recovering from her operation and that Grammaretto has posted.

Are you new Cathymum? Don’t think I have seen your name before? Welcome to this lovely thread if you are posting for the first time.

Hope everyone has a good day. Enjoy the crumpets EllanVannin! Stay safe

grandMattie Tue 01-Dec-20 09:20:18

Thought for the day. Why is it called “lockdown” not “locked in”?

GrannySomerset Tue 01-Dec-20 09:18:14

Cold and bright in North Somerset this morning. Didn’t sleep well after a Zoom call with the Liverpool family who want to come for Christmas and don’t understand why I am so reluctant. Agreed to reconsider after 16 December but I am not happy. Flattered that they want to come rather than seizing on a good excuse not to, but do feel it a risk not worth taking.

Good to have news of brave grand daughters and brave posters. There is always so much happening on this thread.

Ironing and card writing today and perhaps a short walk with DH if he feels up to it. Hope we all have a good day.

harrigran Tue 01-Dec-20 09:05:46

Good morning from a dry and slowly brightening NE.
I did not make it on to the thread yesterday, was very sorry to hear your news Grammaretto my condolences flowers
Yesterday I did some shopping online, GD compiled a list. One of the items will probably be delivered today, if it happens then that will be good service.
No cards written yet but I think the list will be shorter than previous years, quite a few friends and relatives have said they are not sending this year.
Can't believe it is December, I have not been inside a shop since January.

Justwidowed Tue 01-Dec-20 09:03:41

Good morning everyone from a sunny Preston.Pleased to hear that GrandMattie,'s Iris is doing well. The thoughts of Christmas will keep her happy.
Am glad that Gramaretto is posting.
Have to go to town today,as three weeks ago closed two bank accounts online and the money should have been transferred to my current account. Unfortunately the gremlins appeared to have interfered and the accounts were never closed.I'm hoping that a visit to the branch will help .
I reckon it should be quieter up town today as only essential shops are open.
Stay safe and keep smiling.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 01-Dec-20 09:00:22

Good morning Mick and all

Blue sky here in my corner of S E Essex.

Good to see you posting Grammaretto be kind to yourself and take each day slowly thanks

Grandmattie your GD is in good hands I wish her a speedy return home.

Sar53 what country park are you off to?

I took a Nytol last night, I still woke up intermittently but was able to get straight back to sleep. I feel a bit groggy though this morning.

Have to pick up some shopping for DD who is isolating with the GC and drop their Advent calendars off (Thornton’s Chocolate for the GC and Percy Pig for DD) Thdn I have the last few gifts to wrap.

Missing our Family trip to London to see the lights and have a mooch after battling M & S Food Hall (so busy) yesterday I have decided to only visit the local farm shop and local butchers and small shops, they desperately need the trade.

Keep safe and well folks ?‍♀️
