Building wise like a pub, or Hotel , as someone well known been present whilst you were in there .
I have had a few experiences .
1: I went to see the Tour De France in Paris in the 80`s on a coach trip , finding the passenger on the trip next to me was Bernard Manning , we also had a beer together .
2:Also in the 80`s I stayed at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate ,and had lunch close to where Johnny Morris was seated .
3: Coming into the 90`s :
Richard Harris in a pub in Banbury ,and staying in Yorkshire again , went to the pub that was called the Woolpack in Esholt, to see cast members of Emmerdale taking a break one was Stan Richards .
4: up to date ,2 occasions I was on a coach trip again staying in a hotel in Old Windsor and Alistair McGowan was having breakfast , and finally staying a hotel outside High Wycombe for my nephews wedding, Rick wakeman was having breakfast .

I used to work at the Beeb and occasionally ate in 'Hospitality' which was the posh eating place, rather than the canteen. I sat opposite Michael Palin once!

When I was in my 20's shopping in arndale centre in Manchester. A lady was coming towards me and I thought it was one of my mums friends.
But couldn't remember her name.
I stopped and asked how she was, what a surprise to see her there. How is her family. And other such rubbish coming out of my mouth.
She was very polite and friendly but seemed puzzled.
A couple of days later I was telling mum about this friend trying to describe her. Mum had no idea.
12 months later I was at my mum's house in the evening and who should come on the TV 'mums friend' it was Betty from Coronation Street.

Another time I was in a country pub and was waiting to be served and started talking to the man next to me.
It was only Donny Osmond. When I realised he gave me a kiss on the cheek, his autograph and a photo of me and him.

Liverpool suburbs have been frequented by a lot of famous footballers too many to name. It was common to see them in trendy bars and restaurants.
There is an area where a few famous writers live Willy Russell and Phil Redmond are often in local supermarket. Simon O’Brian actor and tv presenter does a lot for the local community as a good neighbour.
They appear to be private people getting on with their lives and obviously happy to live where they are.

The late John Thaw in a Thai restaurant in Oxford with the Morse crew. Helena Bonham Carter in Costa coffee in Abingdon. Melvyn Hayes and the late Windsor Davies at Paddington Station. Jimmy Carr at a Brian Ferry concert in Oxford.

When dd2 was maybe 10 and her elder sister was off on a school trip, we took dd2 and a school friend to a hotel in Cornwall for an Easter holiday.

The girls naturally shared a room, and were no doubt making a certain amount of noise - jumping on the beds and delighting in the free packets of biscuits, etc. - when there was a knock on the door, and someone asked quite nicely whether they could please keep the noise down because - we couldn’t believe it! - they were filming an episode (or a bit of it) of Neighbours in the next room!

Such excitement! Neighbours being the absolute Must Watch for many between about 8 and 28 then.

Yes. He sat on the table opposite me, as he was part of my family group.

At a wedding in a posh hotel in Glasgow we heard a racket outside. The Beatles were entering the building. I was 16 then and excited beyond belief.
As a hotel chambermaid in Douglas I folded John Betjeman's pyjamas!
At Chartwell I followed an immaculate elderly lady with cracking legs into the tearoom ... Margaret Thatcher. She was surrounded by handsome young men, lucky girl.
In a physio's waiting room I was reading an article by Eric Clapton when who should walk in ... yes, the man himself. Very spooky!

Newatthis

I was once in a very upmarket bar in London many years ago and Omar Sharif sent a drink over to me. I didn’t know who he was and thought it rather cheesy so sent it back.

Are you mad ????,!!

Witzend Sun 27-Dec-20 08:08:53

No, but I’ve had a wee in the same Ladies as Helena Bonham Carter (at the Albert Hall after whatever it was, IIRC Charles Aznavour.)

I positively felt sorry for her right afterwards - in the corridor outside she was instantly surrounded by a crowd of morons wanting selfies. Her face was a picture of strained-patience endurance.

Jackie Stewart (the racing driver) joined us at our table at a pub near Silverstone.
Also met Princess Alexandra at a High Commission drinks reception in Singapore.
Sat opposite Arthur Bostrom, the French policeman in 'Allo 'Allo, at a sailing club dinner. Had no idea who he was until DH told me in the car on the way home. We'd been talking to him and his wife all evening.
Met Patrick Moore at a Mess Ball in Cyprus.

I once went to Bristol for the day with my mum (something we NEVER do) and we went to Bill's Restaurant for lunch.

Who should come in and sit a couple of tables over but Zoe (Sunetra Sarker) and Dixie (Jane Hazlegrove) from Casualty. I so wanted to say something, but I didn't want to invade their privacy. I did take a subtle photo though!

I saw Colonel Sanders in Chicago’s O’Hare airport, complete with entourage, Leslie Crowther in our local Boots store one Christmas (I heard his distinctive voice first!), Roy Wood from Wizard lives in Shropshire and I used to see him in our town, same with Ken Downing from Judas Priest, he shopped locally too and Robert Plant.

Had dinner in a box at Lingfield races with Henry Cooper and his lovely wofe, Albina. I was there with my actress friend Diane Keene who was judging Best Dressed Racegoer with Henry.

An aside, it has stuck in my mind that as we were getting ready that evening she have me the actresses too of using haemorhoid cream around the eyes to delay wrinkles. This was validated by a beautician some years later. I've now used it every night for nearly thirty years and it works! And about 99% cheaper than expensive beauty brands.

Many years ago in my teens I was drinking in an East End pub with friends when four men walked in. Two of them were the Kray twins, Ronnie and Reggie. Notsomuch 'personalities' as notorious! Other drinkers started to leave, it was expected. My friends stood up but I refused to budge and said "I'm not going anywhere I've only just got my drink". Reggie said "That's alright let the young lady finish her drink" I did, as my friends grew increasingly edgy. As we left I said cheekily "Thanks Reggie. Goodnight mate!" Once outside my friend said "Do you know who they are??" I said "Of course I do, everyone round her knows the Krays, but no-one tells me what to do" I was a very feisty kid back then.

A few years later I had coffee with Ginger Baker in a recording studio in London (I was there with a friend), and met the Small Faces the same day.

In the 70's I literally bumped into Danny LaRue in Leicester Square as I rushed back to work after lunch. He knocked me right off my feet, my shopping scattered all over the pavement. He was very apologetic and explained he was rushing to a rehearsal. He asked me where I was going and offered to walk me back to my workplace. I declined as he would be even later then. The following day a lovely bouquet of flowers arrived at work for me and tickets for his show, with more apologies. My colleages were gobsmacked.

I also met John Alderton and Pauline Collins several times, they were customers of ours.

On an evening out at The University Arms Hotel in Cambridge in the 70s, my husband and I came across Tommy Cooper in full flight; I don't think the waiters got much work done that evening!
A few years later we sat at a table opposite Bruce Jones (Corrie's Les Battersby) in a little pub in Wales. And not long after that we saw John Major and entourage having an informal lunch in Blakeney Point

Bill Nighy lives in our neighbourhood and I see him often. He's always beautifully dressed and has impeccable manners.

I was sitting on the bench outside our local library a few years ago and saw out of the corner of my eye someone sitting at the other end (it's a 3 seater) At that point, one of our local lunatics walked down the road in a particularly outragious get up and I got the mad giggles. The person sitting next to me joined in and when I turned to look - it was Bert Kwoak. We met often after that on that bench and spent a few min's chatting and laughing at "the local wildlife".

He died a few years ago and I do miss our little chats.

Brian Murphy used to live next door to me and I got quite friendly with his wife.

There are quite a few celebrities living around here so we get used to them.
