That’s an idea Elliane .....we could all have tatoos on our ears instead of passports ! ? Somebody send that suggestion to Number 10 please, think of the time it would save when going through customs.

I don’t understand why Biba claims to be able to speak for the rest of the EU - various odds upthread imply “insider” information ( all the EU people love Scotland ) when 1) she does not live in a EU country and simultaneously 2) pleads UK citizenship at every turn
You can’t have it both ways - it’s called “running with the hare while hunting with the hounds”
Who is to say you know better than anybody else? Despite inhabiting an island we are not necessarily insular
Perhaps that is what some posters have found irritating - this attitude of knowing better and despite your protestations you still refer t the UK as “you” not “us”

I don’t think you can help yourself, but considering that you are on a chat forum where actually most are either from or live in England, it’s amazingly crass to post this stuff.Constant digs at ‘little Englanders’ is bound to put people’s backs up on GN (including those posters from Scotland and Wales and NI) we are all the UK and have more in common than anything that divides us.In fact nothing unites us more than constantly being lectured about how we are a rubbish country ( which we are certainly not.)

I am amazed that some people can be as trivial as the care what colour their passport is on the cusp of this country and its economy taking such a big step into the void.

It was intended as a dig at those who are insisting in blue passports. I do not want a blue one as I wish to travel freely around Europe and prefer to be regarded as a European, which I am.

And you are wrong on this one for sure Lemon- all the EU people absolutely love Scotland and most of them just head for there. I spent years trying to persuade so many people to visit yll my favourite parts of England, be it the SW, or the Peakes, Cotswolds, North Norfolk, Rutland- but no, they 'do' London then head direct for Scotland. And they would support the Scotts all the way if they run for intependence in the current circumstances- as tourists, and businesses too.

The Holiday magazines and guides are all about Scotland. Fact- personally I've only been twice and would love to go again- but next location, apart from our home and our daughters' and family all over the place- will be Northumberland. Been dreaming about it for a long time.

But for now - I shall just leave you to it. As said, bonne chance- but life is just too short.

What I can't get my head around is the double standards of who can, and who can't, post on events in the UK. Earlier this week, on a different thread, one poster (who lives in the UK but is currently trapped in another EU country due to COVID lockdown) was actually challenged as to whether she had the right to comment on current events in her home town because she isn't actually living there. That poster is a self admitted Brexit voter. Is it that that makes the difference?

I doubt the Swiss know much about Scotland ( or Wales or NI)
So they say England ( as do most people in Europe) but I also doubt they spend all their time laughing or mocking us either. It’s probably some on the Swiss chat forum you are on

Brexit seems to have had a dramatic affect on some people,
(remainers.....some only) and has opened the doors to intolerance ( with any posters/people in RL who had the temerity to vote to leave) bordering on real unpleasantness.

silly- perhaps. But what is clear is that the England I knew, and spend my whole adult life in- had all those amazing and unique qualities- probably not seen anywhere else in the world. Which is why it is so upsetting to see what is being done to it- and how those qualities are being destroyed, one by one, lock, stock and barrel - and some of the people willingly encouraging this- and who will be the first victims.

biba, That's a bit dramatic and rather silly.

yes, that was the post deleted, when I said 'don't be silly' and the Jeremy Vine show video with the TV Doc saying there will be a huge problem with importing medicine.

In my mind, all countries that make up the UK are equal- but my experience is with England. And people in the EU, in general, yes (press, tv show this clearly) are laughing at England, not Scotland- because Scotland did not vote for this, and the general concensus is that they have been disrespected and treated very badly. Now I love Wales- and been there so many times- but the truth is, rightly, wrongly- it is never mentionned on the Continent in the Press or discussions.

Silly, dramatic- so be it- that is the way I feel. And am sick of being told I am not entitled to feel this way or have an opinion, because I was 19 when I came to UK, and because we moved here to look after my elderly parents.

Brexit has truly opened the doors to intolerance, bordering on racism, jingoism, nationalism- it is not pleasant.

You are making a generalisation about people in the EU. Do you know them all?
There are posters from all nations in the UK here, you should show some respect. England isn't the centre of the universe, despite what you appear to believe.

I thought we confined comments to what was said on the thread? Each conversation is a separate unit. Harking back to what someone has said in the past on a different thread is against etiquette.

England because this is where I have lived, in several locations, for my 40 years there. I have visited Scotland and Wales, and found the beautiful, but in my heart and life, is England. As for people in the EU, they always talk about England, not the UK.

I have never bad mouthed the UK, I have criticised strongly what this Government, ERG and Cummings have done and are doing to it- changing all the great things about it- the tolerance, the openess, the caring, the NHS and Social services and the treatment of anyone who is a bit different, for whatever reason. We have not returned to UK because of it- and because our family will probably move here - because of above.

As usual, this has descended into a bunfight, with personal remarks directed at quite afew posters.

I owe Biba an apology, I thought she was the one calling us little englanders Anyway, I found the remark offensive. However, I still don't agree with what she is saying.

Good question Merlot. Obviously not around long enough to have had to put up with the constant bad mouthing of the UK we have been subjected to for years.

biba says she hates to see England derided, mocked and pitied. Surely she is not making the annoying mistake of saying England but meaning the UK. Or are the Scots, Welsh and Irish better thought of in Europe? I am confused now as who is being criticised here.
