Rather pay than give in

Personally I would rather UK left EU without a deal than give up our freedom. We can avoid buying French food and wine, on the wholecwe drink new world wines anyway.
British cheeses are just as good.

As for travel, we all managed before freedom of movement and can easily go back.

The thought of caving into europe and their desire to annexe uk fills me with horror

Yes thanks vegan?

Don’t forget some of this is to do with the container problem as part of the global pandemic so some goods won’t be here for 2-3 months Brexit or no Brexit. Regarding Brexit I just wish they would finalise it even if it’s no deal so everyone knows where they stand. This should have been concluded months ago.

No one is happy - are Brexit supporters?

What an inane comment. NO ONE likes this situation.

GagaJo Tue 15-Dec-20 15:16:45

Sorry Vegan wrong person! My comment was for Jane10s offensive remark.

amymorris01 Tue 15-Dec-20 17:25:03

I voted leave and am not changing my mind. I just wish they'd get on with it.
Sorry my view is not very popular with other gransnetters so many people have had a go at me but i still stand by my vote and Boris.

Jane10 Tue 15-Dec-20 17:30:49

I never said 'No one is happy--are brexit supporters'.
Having heard truckers talking about delays they said that there were holdups due to Covid affecting staffing and also out of date and slow software at Felixstowe in particular but other ports too.

Refreshing post!

I voted Remain but I am fine that Leave won. It was a vote. Nothing I can do about it nor would I want to..

I have some friends and family who wanted Brexit. And we do all speak to each other still!

I think it's very sad that people are losing friends because of how they voted,

Nezumi65 Tue 15-Dec-20 17:49:40

It's not just covid. Many organisations have been trying to ship in good before Brexit - so you have Covid, additional Christmas stock and Brexit stockpiling going on.

Read my comment Jane ?

M0nica Tue 15-Dec-20 21:27:41

I voted Remain and long ago washed my hands of the whole sorry saga. I have reached the couldn't care less stage.

Ellianne Thu 17-Dec-20 09:44:32

Probably not of much interest here, but a step in the right direction for pets. All agreed. Phew, not as bad as expected!
Now to sort out the people issues.

And breathe!
The thread seems to have cooled down, thank you for sensible posts.

anna7 Thu 17-Dec-20 09:59:46

Thanks for your post Ellianne. The pet travel issue is of great interest to me. Sounds reasonably straightforward.

Nezumi65 Thu 17-Dec-20 10:03:43

Guidance covers Northern Ireland as well? Blimey. I have taken my dog to Norn before which involved driving onto the ferry, leaving him fed and watered in the car then driving off again.

Progress!

GagaJo

Dover on Friday. Imagine all the imported food etc in that crush.

Online orders for non food items made now may not arrive till March.

So, yes. Looking great. All the worries are just project fear.

I'm a bit confused and I know I need an optician's appointment - but is that the port at the top of the picture? If so, aren't those trucks heading towards the port not from it? The cabs are facing the lighted area in front and are on the left hand carriageway.

I may be wrong, as I say, I need new specs.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 17-Dec-20 10:41:00

You are correct Callistemon

Lucretzia Thu 17-Dec-20 14:48:05

Brilliant spot, Callistemon!

AmberSpyglass Thu 17-Dec-20 15:25:42

I voted Remain and I hate the idea of Brexit, but if this is what we’re getting then we need to have clarity about what to expect 1 Jan and we just...don’t. A big part of me wishes that Theresa May’s soft Brexit deal had gone through instead of all the campaigning to overturn the result (of a non-binding, consultation referendum!), but if we’d just sat down and taken it I wouldn’t have been happy either.

Once it happens, at least we can deal with it then. I’m concerned that Johnson will pass the buck of any issues onto Covid, but I think he’ll face a vote of no confidence at some point in 2021.

We won’t get back what we’ve lost in leaving the EU, but at least we’ll know where we stand. If we enter the 2030s as a United Kingdom of England, Wales Scotland and NI then I’ll be VERY surprised.
